[email protected] ABSTRACT. This article aims to compare the heuristic potentials of two different theories of desire, with reference to Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. The first theor! is that of mimetic desire, proposed b! "en# $irard% the second theor! is the one elaborated b! &reud and 'acan, a theor! of which we emphasize the conception of identit! in terms of identification and the distinction between the )maginar! and S!mbolic registers *conversel!, $irard s mimetic desire corresponds to the )maginar! register onl!+.
