Materiali per una bibliografia italiana sull’icona Il titolo di questo contributo è giustificato dal fatto che il lavoro che presento non nasce come stesura di una bibliografia, ma è frutto dell’opera di riordino e catalogazione, tuttora in corso, di una biblioteca specializzata in iconografia sacra, soprattutto riguardante i paesi orientali di tradizione cristiana. Quando mi è stato chiesto di collaborare a questa pubblicazione, ho accettato ben volentieri di mettere a disposizione di chi vorrà intraprendere la stesura di una bibliografia sull’icona, la parte di catalogo riferita ai contributi in lingua italiana. Il catalogo di una biblioteca non può essere equiparato ad una bibliografia scientifica per il fatto che registra solo le pubblicazioni presenti nella biblioteca stessa, mentre una bibliografia dovrebbe indicare, per quanto possibile, tutte le pubblicazioni edite su un dato argomento. Il catalogo rimane comunque una fonte importante a disposizione del bibliografo. La biblioteca nasce con l’intento di raccogliere le pubblicazioni in italiano, comprese le poche stampate all’estero, sull’iconografia sacra dell’Oriente cristiano, alle quali si sono aggiunti, in seguito, contributi sulla ricezione dell’arte sacra orientale in Italia e sull’iconografia italiana stessa. Con la consultazione di bibliografie, cataloghi di biblioteche italiane e straniere, cataloghi editoriali e d’antiquariato, nel corso degli anni il fondo si è molto incrementato, al punto di offrire gli strumenti per dare risposte quasi sempre positive a chi mi si rivolge con domande di carattere bibliografico sull’iconografia.
