THE BELLS OF BALANGIGA Reflection and Introspection A Living Essay by Dan McKinnon “Tell me a fact, and I’ll learn. Tell me a truth, and I’ll believe. But tell me a story, and it will live in my heart forever.” Foreword In 1998 retired U. S. Air Force Colonel Gerald M. Adams published a booklet, “The Bells of Balangiga”. It was printed in Cheyenne, Wyoming and described the history of two bells taken from the ruble of a burned church belfry in the Philippines and brought to Fort D. A. Russell in 1904. Today they reside on F. E. Warren Air Force Base in a brick wall structure on Trophy Park, a grassy triangle near historic officers’ quarters. Gerry Adams enjoyed local history, wrote first about the bells for the Annals of Wyoming in 1987, and authored other historical articles.

Without the generous support, razor sharp insight, and unfailing kindness of Laurie Green and H.W. Brands, this project could not have been realized. I am also indebted to the feedback and encouragement of Robert Abzug, Erika Bsumek, and Philippa Levine, Carolyn Eastman, Judy Coffin, Frank Guridy, Kimberly Alidio and Paul Kramer. I am also obliged to a number of fellow graduate students, for listening to me rabbit on about my ideas, and helping to steer me toward the nuggets of real value, especially Kyle Shelton, Cristina Salinas, Leah Deane, Deidre Doughty, Eric Bush, Erica Whittington, Luritta DuBois, Emily Brownell, Shannon Nagy, Rachel Ozanne, Juandrea Bates, and Julia Ogden.

  • REI2020-010 Annex a Terms of Reference
TERMS OF REFERENCE CONSULTING SERVICES PROCUREMENT OF SERVICES OF MULTIMEDIA COMPANY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION OF A WEB-BASED 360° VIRTUAL REALITY EXPERIENTIAL REGIONAL TOURS December 2020 - March 2021 I. BACKGROUND The Philippine Tourism Promotions Board (PTPB) is mandated to promote and market the Philippines as a major global tourism destination. Its core mission is to market and promote the Philippines domestically and internationally as a world class tourism and MICE destination, in strategic partnership with private and public stakeholders as a preferred destination for fun and travel. Its vision is to make the Philippines as a destination for safe, uniquely-diverse and fun travel experiences by 2025. The global tourism has almost come to standstill due to the CoVid-19 pandemic. As travel restrictions and social distancing continue to be enforced across the world for the conceivable future, travel-related businesses such as airlines, cruise lines, hotels, restaurants, and museums have ceased operations. With travels now confined to their respective homes, clamor for indoor activities is on the rise. The introduction of virtual tours, artificial intelligence and virtual/augmented reality are seen as huge potential in tourism. With recent advancements in technology and the availability of video hardware and software worldwide, virtual tours are a staple of digital marketing and promotion. TPB recognizes the relevance of virtual tours and virtual tourism experience platform to strategically market and promote the Philippines as a preferred destination for safe and fun travel. The 360°VR Experiential Regional Tours, in essence, is a virtual experience in exploring the many Philippine tourism attractions and interesting sites/activities in the virtual environment through the use of technology.
