1 THE PHILIPPINE JOURNAL OF SCIENCE VOL. 58 SEPTEMBER, 1935 No.1 A REVISION OF THE PHILIPPINE LORANTHACEAE By B. H. DANSER Of the Botanical Laboratory of the University, Groningen, Netherlands TWO PLATES A revision of the Philippine Loranthaceae has already twice been given, though in a more concise form, by Merrill.1 The present revision is, in many respects, only an extension of Merrill’s. New are the keys for all genera and species; the complete descriptions for all species, usually after all materials available; the distribution lists as complete as possible; and many criticisms of the nomenclature. In many points, such as the synonymy of older Philippine literature, I have had to follow Merrill blindly; also it deserves to be mentioned that the careful labeling of the material in the Bureau of Science herbarium and the clear indication of good types are Merrill’s work. I am, however, also greatly indebted to Dr. Eduardo Quisumbing, curator of the Philippine National Herbarium, Bureau of Science, for his kindness in twice sending me the Philippine Loranthaceae - once to Buitenzorg and once to Groningen. Also to the directors of other herbaria, who kindly sent me Philippine Loranthacese to be taken up in my revision, I feel very thankful. The herbaria from which material was received are here listed: B; Herbarium of the Botanic Gardens, Buitenzorg, Java. Be; Herbarium of the Botanic Garden and Museum, Berlin-Dahlem. Br; Herbarium of the Botanic Garden of the University, Breslau. G; Herbarium of the Botanical Laboratory of the University, Groningen. L; The State Herbarium, Leiden.

  • DENR Execs, Staff Undertake COVID-19 Aid Project
STRATEGIC BANNER COMMUNICATION UPPER PAGE 1 EDITORIAL CARTOON STORY STORY INITIATIVES PAGE LOWER SERVICE May 22, 2020 PAGE 1/ DATE TITLE : DENR execs, staff undertake COVID-19 aid project May 21, 2020 ByJoel dela Torre People's Journal THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has distributed P218,000 worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) and grocery packs to doctors, nurses and medical staff of five government hospitals in Quezon City. According to Undersecretary for Priority Projects Jonas Leones, the aid was part of the second phase of ComPassion Project, a community outreach initiative of DENR career officials and employees for government hospitals fighting the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. Recipients were medical frontliners at the East Avenue Medical Center, Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Philippine Heart Center and Philippine Children’s Medical Center. Leones said each hospital was provided with 30 sets of complete overall suit and face shields for doctors and nurses, and 30 sets of laboratory suit with hair and shoe covers and face shields for the support staff. The medical frontliners were also given grocery packs, which included alcohol and washable face masks. Leones, who is also the president of DENR Association of Career Executives, said that the Compassion Project was established out of their desire to help those affected by the pandemic. QC so far has recorded the highest number of corona virus infections in Metro Manila. “ComPassion was derived from the words compassion and passion. As a government agency, we thought of a campaign where we can help those who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

Transportation history of the Philippines This article describes the various forms of transportation in the Philippines. Despite the physical barriers that can hamper overall transport development in the country, the Philippines has found ways to create and integrate an extensive transportation system that connects the over 7,000 islands that surround the archipelago, and it has shown that through the Filipinos' ingenuity and creativity, they have created several transport forms that are unique to the country. Philippine history, more especially the historio- graphy of its colonial period, poses some particular problems in serving as the basis from which to fashion an identity suitable to the modern citizens of a nation-state. These problems are not restricted to the Philippines, but the combination of features is certainly specific to the history of that nation and differentiates its historiography from that of others in the region. Attention has long been drawn to the unique geographical location and cultural experi- ence of the islands; indeed D.G.E. Hall even omitted the Philippines from the first edition of his seminal history of Southeast Asia (Hall 1955). But these observations on their own offer no insuperable obstacle to the creation of a national historiography. Far more significant is the lack of appropriate his- torical experiences whose symbolic value make of them suitable rallying points round which a counter-hegemonic and anti-colonial historiography can coalesce and flourish.1 The history of nations is always presented in the form of a narrative, the fulfilment of a project that stretches back over the centuries along which are moments of coming to self-awareness that prove to be decisive in the self- manifestation of national personality (Balibar 1991:86; Bhabha 1990:1).

SALDIVAR-SALI Submitted to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering on May 24, 2004 in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Master of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering ABSTRACT This research formulates a LANDSLIDE RISK RATING SYSTEM for the Greater Baguio area in the Philippines. It is hoped that the tool will be made a part of the physical/urban planning process when used by engineers and planners and used to address risks posed by landslides given the rapidly increasing concentration of population and the development of infrastructure and industry in the Baguio area. Reports and studies of individual landslides in the area are reviewed in order to discover the causal factors of mass movements and their interactions. The findings of these research works are discussed in the first portion of this paper.
