Noble Rot NO. 11 SUMMER 2009 Welcome to our Summer Newsletter. It has been a pretty frantic first half of the year with lots of new wines, another great Anniversary tasting in May and also a new face in the shop! We will be publishing a full strength newsletter in the early Autumn, but for now we hope that you enjoy our latest offering and look forward to seeing you over the summer months. Happy drinking Introducing our new Staff Member Many of you will have noticed a new face in the shop and behind the wheel of the van, but just in case you haven’t met him yet, here is a little introduction to our latest member of staff, Bob Alsop. When did you develop an interest in wine? When the first good Australian wines appeared on our shelves in the Eighties. What is your favourite style of wine? Dry reds in general, with Bordeaux and Rioja being my favourites. What is the best drinking experience you have had? On holiday in France when the Exchange Rate was in our favour. And the worst? A Sunday Evening in Wales, years ago. All the pubs were shut and there was nowhere to drink! Who would be your ideal dinner party guest? The regulars from ‘Have I got News for you’. PRODUCER PROFILE: Castello di Luzzano, Rovescala, Lombardy Perched in one of the most beautiful spots in the area, the Castello di Luzzano sits astride a hilltop that straddles the border between the regions of Emiglia-Romana and Lombardia, with views over the hills of Oltrepo Pavese to one side and the Colli Piacentini to the other.

  • 1511 Bonarda Colli Piacentini DOC, Castelli Del Duca 75Cl Info
1511 Bonarda Colli Piacentini DOC, Castelli del Duca Story of the wine: Whilst the indigenous grapes of Italy represent a great strength there are occasions when it can be very confusing. Bonarda from Colli Piacentini is in reality Croatina, in contrast to Bonarda from Novara hills of Piemonte, which really is Bonarda. Croatina is hardly found outside the Emilia Romagna region. Historically this variety was given a second fermentation in the bottle so as to give it a gentle sparkle. Details: Grape(s): 100% Bonarda Area: From vineyards in the hills around the town of Piacenza. Av. Age of Vines:25 years Vine Density: 4,000 per ha. Training system: Guyot Harvest: Late September early October Yield: 98 hl.per ha. Vinification: There is 15 day fermentation in stainless steel vats at between 270-290C and a complete malolactic fermentation. There is 9 day maceration. Ageing: Aged for 3-4 months in large oak barrels and then kept in stainless steel vats. Pack size: 6x75cl Descriptions for Wine List: 1)A delicious, rounded wine with a full, fruity flavour and a lightly crisp finish. A slightly perfumed nose. 2)Italy’s local grapes are a great heritage and this example of Bonarda, from the hills around the old town of Piacenza, is typical, in that it is rarely found outside its own region and has a tradition of its own. A delicious, rounded wine with a full, fruity flavour and a lightly crisp finish. A slightly perfumed nose. • Aglianico from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia
Aglianico From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Aglianico (pronounced [aʎˈʎaːniko], roughly "ahl-YAH-nee- koe") is a black grape grown in the Basilicata and Campania Aglianico regions of Italy. The vine originated in Greece and was Grape (Vitis) brought to the south of Italy by Greek settlers. The name may be a corruption of vitis hellenica, Latin for "Greek vine."[1] Another etymology posits a corruption of Apulianicum, the Latin name for the whole of southern Italy in the time of ancient Rome. During this period, it was the principal grape of the famous Falernian wine, the Roman equivalent of a first-growth wine today.
