    1511 Bonarda Colli Piacentini DOC, Castelli del Duca Story of the wine: Whilst the indigenous grapes of Italy represent a great strength there are occasions when it can be very confusing. Bonarda from Colli Piacentini is in reality Croatina, in contrast to Bonarda from Novara hills of Piemonte, which really is Bonarda. Croatina is hardly found outside the Emilia Romagna region. Historically this variety was given a second fermentation in the bottle so as to give it a gentle sparkle. Details: Grape(s): 100% Bonarda Area: From vineyards in the hills around the town of Piacenza. Av. Age of Vines:25 years Vine Density: 4,000 per ha. Training system: Guyot Harvest: Late September early October Yield: 98 hl.per ha. Vinification: There is 15 day fermentation in stainless steel vats at between 270-290C and a complete malolactic fermentation. There is 9 day maceration. Ageing: Aged for 3-4 months in large oak barrels and then kept in stainless steel vats.     Aglianico From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Aglianico (pronounced [aʎˈʎaːniko], roughly "ahl-YAH-nee- koe") is a black grape grown in the Basilicata and Campania Aglianico regions of Italy. The vine originated in Greece and was Grape (Vitis) brought to the south of Italy by Greek settlers. The name may be a corruption of vitis hellenica, Latin for "Greek vine."[1] Another etymology posits a corruption of Apulianicum, the Latin name for the whole of southern Italy in the time of ancient Rome. During this period, it was the principal grape of the famous Falernian wine, the Roman equivalent of a first-growth wine today.
