The European aviation market can be characterised by extreme growth and turbulence ever since the markets were deregulated and low cost carriers emerged on the continent. Initially the biggest toll was paid by main legacy carriers when low costs emerged on trunk routes, which lead to the bankruptcy of Sabena, Swiss airlines and Spanair. However, once big legacy carriers started merging and creating more alliances, sustainability was once again reached. Despite this, as low cost carriers entered the Eastern-European market and looked to stimulate even smaller regional routes, smaller carriers started to suffer. This article is assessing the status quo of the current European region- al aviation, highlighting the recent trends and ultimately coming to a conclusion that regional airlines can be sustaina- ble provided that certain key criteria have been met.

Our particular aim is to reveal methodological changes of ethnographic reproduction and to contextualise the museum’s current efforts in ideologically positioning of the permanent exhibition. Through historical–herme- neutical analysis we plan to establish particular museological trends at the Esto- nian National Museum that have led curators to the current ideological position. The history of the Finno-Ugric displays at the Estonian National Museum and comparative analysis of international museological practices enable us to reveal and interpret different approaches to ethnographic reconstructions. When exhib- iting indigenous cultures, one needs to balance ethnographic charisma with the ethics of display. In order to employ the approach of ethical attraction, curators must comprehend indigenous cultural logic while building up ethnographic rep- resentations. The major display will be dedicated to Estonian cultural developments. A smaller, although still significant, task is to arrange the Finno-Ugric permanent exhibition. W artykule podjêto próbê podsumowania dotychczasowej wspó³pracy geologów polskich i litewskich, szczególnie w ostat- nich 20 latach (1990–2010). Wspó³praca ta obejmowa³a przede wszystkim aspekty geologii œrodowiskowej. W trakcie kilku etapów badañ specjaliœci Pañstwowego Instytutu Geologicznego – Pañstwowego Instytutu Badawczego oraz S³u¿by Geologicznej Litwy na obszarze przy- granicznym przeprowadzili prace kartograficzne prowadz¹ce do opracowania szeregu map tematycznych, w tym zanieczyszczenia gleb me- talami ciê¿kimi, geopotencja³u, map zagro¿eñ œrodowiska i innych, zgromadzili materia³ dla opracowania bazy geotopów, analizowali zdjêcia satelitarne pod k¹tem zmian u¿ytkowania terenu oraz zorganizowali i prowadzili monitoring wód podziemnych. Bardziej szcze- gó³owo omówione zosta³y miejsca zwi¹zane z osob¹ marsza³ka Józefa Pi³sudskiego i ich potencja³ geoturystyczny. Miejsca te cechuje du¿a atrakcyjnoœæ pod wzglêdem krajobrazu, jak równie¿ wyró¿nia interesuj¹ca budowa geologiczna. Dotychczasowe badania stworzy³y dobre podstawy dalszej wielostronnej kooperacji geologów polskich i litewskich. Wspó³praca geologów obu krajów jest zgodna z zaleceniami Unii Europejskiej dla wprowadzania Zasad Europejskiej Polityki Rozwoju Przestrzennego, które maj¹ przyczyniæ siê do redukcji zanieczyszczeñ i poprawy warunków œrodowiskowych w Europie. (Ariès 1981, xvi) Abstract European burial grounds suffered a great shift in the 19th century: hygienic strategies of city development brought them to be outside of the city cores. A new model of cemetery handed a right to memory for those social classes that were sentenced to forgetting before: it was the time of the rise of the individual. Following garden development – from hortus conclusus to an open landscape – first through the use of the false funeral monuments in the gardens, then placing real tombs in natural milieu (for example, a tomb of Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Île des Peupliers in Ermenonville) – people got accustomed to see death in the garden and burial spaces acquired Edenic expression. Lithuania was the very last European country to accept Christianity; all the territory was only Christianised in the beginning of the 15th century. Therefore this article approaches burial grounds in Lithuania as places where pagan culture meets recent Christian attitudes and concerns. The first trigger for this research was an urge to identify elements of pagan beliefs in spatial solutions of Lithuanian cemeteries. In order to decode a morphogenetic identity of Lithuanian burial grounds, two 19th-century cemeteries in Vilnius, Lithuania, were approached from a syntactic point of view taking into account the mythological references of Christianity and Baltic paganism.

    2021-4367-HIS 1 Between Greeks and Latins: 2 Pilies Street in Medieval Vilnius 3 4 Pilies Street is one of the oldest in the city of Vilnius, the capital of the 5 Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The street’s name is connected with its starting 6 point, the territory of the castles of the grand dukes. In the early 15th century, 7 Vilnius City Hall was erected at the south end of Pilies Street. Pilies Street is 8 not only an inseparable part of the city’s earliest spatial structure, but is 9 also directly connected with the Christian communities of Vilnius, when it 10 was still a pagan city. During the earliest period of the city’s development 11 Christian immigrants, both Orthodox and Catholic, gathered around Pilies 12 Street. The paradox is that very little information is available about the 13 emergence and formation of the central street of the city. The purpose of this 14 paper is to examine more carefully the early history of what is perhaps the 15 main street in Vilnius and the changes over the course of time.
