Desde su creación, en 1976, no ha despertado gran interés por parte de los investigado- res, aunque se trata de un viejo territorio con abundante historia y el único de la ciudad que debe su nombre a una mujer: Beatriz Galindo, escritora y humanista, profesora de latín de Isabel la Católica. 18!Madrid Histórico - La iglesia de Santa Cristina, de es- tilo neomudéjar, fue una obra del arquitecto Enrique María Repullés y Vargas, quien la construyó, entre 1904 y 1906, sobre los terrenos de la antigua ermita del Angel de la Guarda. De hecho, el nombre del barrio de Puerta del Angel se deriva de esa ermita y del antiguo acceso a la Casa de Campo cuan- do esta se extendía hasta el paseo de Extremadura. La historia del distrito de Latina va de la mano de la historia de los Carabancheles, el Alto y el Bajo, a los que perteneció (salvo una franja de te- rreno junto al Manzanares que ya correspondía a la capital desde el siglo anterior) hasta su anexión a Madrid en 1948. En 1576, los vecinos de Ca- rabanchel Alto respondían a la encuesta enviada por Felipe II a los pueblos de Castilla, señalando el territorio de los Carabancheles «desde la Real Casa de Campo de Su Majestad hasta el término de Villaverde, desde el río Manzanares hasta los El puente de Segovia es una de las escasas obras términos de A1corcón y de Leganés». -

USEFUL INFORMATION FOR VISITORS AND HOW TO REACH AEMET HEADQUARTERS AEMET Headquarters: How to get there AEMET’s address is Leonardo Prieto Castro, 8 within Ciudad Universitaria (University City), not far from Madrid downtown. It is located over a small hill behind the Faculty of Chemistry and can be easily identified by the big satellite antenna. Nearest Metro (underground railway) stations are Vicente Aleixandre and Ciudad Universitaria, both in Line 6 (the grey circular line). From these stations AEMET can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot. Buses G, 82, and 132 have stops at a 5 minutes walking distance from AEMET. These lines depart from Moncloa Square in front of the big building of the Air Force Headquarters (“Ejercito del Aire”), Metro station Moncloa (lines 3 & 6) is also there. Bus fare can be paid to the driver directly (1,50 €. No change given for more than 5€), or using a rechargeable card which are mandatory for the Metro. Rechargeable cards may be purchased at vending machines in the airport or every Metro station for 2.50 €. Then several tickets may be charged in the card. An airport Metro ticket costs 4.50 €. A 10 trips ticket for Metro or buses costs 12.20 € but is not valid for the airport. Line 8 of “Metro” connects the airport with Nuevos Ministerios (final stop) the trip taking 15 minutes. Once in Nuevos Ministerios station, change to line 6 (5 minutes underground walk for this change). -

It is the capital of Castilla-La Mancha and its name has a Latin origin which means “erected, at the top” due to its geographic location. Monastery San Juan de los Reyes It was designed by the architect Juan Guas as a request of the Catholic Kings for the Franciscan Order to commemorate their victory at the Battle of Toro (1476). It was declared Historic-Artistic Monument of national interest in 1926. Formed by a unique nave, it has open chapels with arches to allow the practice of simultaneous rites. The temple, completed in 1495, has an Elizabethan style, made with one nave with alcove chapels between the buttress and with chorus raised at the feet. The cloister, considered one of the Spanish jewels of the Gothic period, is the most antique of the two it had and it suffered many restorations. It has two floors and has a squared floor. The church communicates with the cloister by the south side through two doors situated in the transept and the nave.
