It has been found that sustainable tourism development allows for variations in tourism development intensity in the region. The aim of sustainable tourism development is a long-term optimal use of tourism resources without negative impacts on the natural, social and economic environments. The major constraints that will have to be considered if tourism development is to be sustainable are: waste water collection and treatment, lack of car parks, road and rail transport, sea water quality, potable water resources, solid waste disposal and management, and last but not least the dissatisfaction of the local community and tourists with tourism. The development of more accommodation facilities would not be reasonable without investments in general infrastructure facilities. Measures for increasing carrying capacity have also been suggested.     OPERATIONAL MARKETING PLAN FOR CULTURAL TOURISM IN SLOVENIA 2018–2020 (OPCULT) SUMMARY The Slovenian Tourist Board defined culture as the leading theme of Slovenian tourism in 2018 and 2019. Therefore, the Operational Marketing Plan for cultural tourism in Slovenia (OPCULT) was prepared. It comprises definitions of key value and promotion-related advantages of the cultural and tourist offer in Slovenia, which are summarised in the matrix of the most attractive products, and a set of elements of the cultural and tourist offer by four macroregions in Slovenia. The presentation of TOP offer is rounded off by a cover marketing story with a slogan, which is implemented in individual tools of the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB). 1. STRATEGIC BASIS DEFINITION OF CULTURAL TOURISM AND CULTURAL TOURISTS For uniform understanding of cultural tourism, we summarise the definition used by the European Travel Commission (ETC) in City Tourism and Culture (2005), which distinguishes between the outer and inner circle of cultural tourism. The inner circle represents the primary elements of cultural tourism. They may be divided into two parts, i.e. heritage tourism related to the achievements of the past, and arts tourism related to, in addition to artistic overachievements from various periods in the past, contemporary cultural production such as the performing and visual arts, contemporary architecture, literature, music etc. The outer circle represents the secondary elements of cultural tourism. They may also be divided into two parts, i.e. lifestyle, which connects beliefs, traditions, cuisine, folklore and other traditions of a destination, and the creative industries such as fashion, design, film, media and entertainment (City Tourism and Culture, 2005).

  • Tourism Education in Slovenian Primary Schools
    QUAESTUS MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH JOURNAL TOURISM EDUCATION IN SLOVENIAN PRIMARY SCHOOLS Alenka DIVJAK Abstract: The article is basically divided into two parts: 1) the beginnings of tourism in Slovenia and 2) tourism education in Slovenian primary schools, the second part being in turn subdivided into two subparts: 1) an attempt at promoting tourism in the Reader (text-book) for repetitive training schools and/or agricultural-continuation schools by Ljudevit Stiasny (Vienna, 1914) and 2) tourism education in primary schools in today's Slovenia. Stiasny's chapter on tourism can be read as the first attempt to promote tourism education in Slovenia as early as the Austro-Hungarian period, providing a set of instructions on how to run tourist facilities and attract tourists. The second subpart, on the other hand, focuses primarily on tourism education in Slovenian primary schools in present times and their cooperation with the Tourist Association of Slovenia. Historians agree that the industrialisation in the Slovenian lands began in the 1820s when steam engines, industrial plants, textile mills, paper mills, ironworks, glass factories, breweries were beginning to replace former manufactures and started to compete with the craft production (Fischer 1998: 51-52). But the real conditions for the expansion of industry appeared only in the second half of the century, after 1848, as the result of the gradual removal of numerous legal restrictions on the expansion of industrial production.

Growth of tourist arrivals and overnight stays was especially high among foreign tourists.
