June 24th, 2021 Thirteenth Week of Ordinary Time The Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul will be celebrated this Tuesday, June 29th. No one knows exactly why they are celebrated together, but tradition dates back to 258 AD at least. A popular myth is that they were martyred on the same day, but Paul actually died three years later. Others believe that the two were so united by, as St. Augustine of Hippo put it in 395, "what they believed, their life, their labors, their sufferings, their preaching, and their confession of faith", that they could be considered "one", and are celebrated thusly. No matter why they are celebrated together, The Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul reminds us to join together in our faith, and to stand up for our individual beliefs. Paulists in Italy As some of you may have seen, our former associate pastor Fr. Matt Berrios was a guest on the EWTN show Vatican Insider last weekend! Joan Lewis interviewed him about his studies at the PIO, his time in Rome so far, and his expertise on the Oriental Churches. Listen to the interview here, or on the EWTN website here! From 2006 to 2011 Paulist Father Tom Holahan served as vice rector of the Paulist church in Rome. During that time, he kept a detailed travel journal, preserving his adventures. Join Fr. Holahan as he explores famous historical sites and obscure local gems. From Catholic Art to Roman Ruins, from delicious food to beautiful natural wonders, from the everyday to the once-in-a-lifetime, the Rome Diaries have something for everyone. Read about his experiences here; New entries posted weekly! This short film about St. Rosalia, "the little saint", was narrated by our former pastor Fr. Joe Ciccone, Vice Rector of St. Patrick's Catholic American Parish in Rome. St. Rosalia was a hermitess who lived from 1130 to c. 1170 in Sicily. As our world continues to address COVID-19 and its impact, the accounts of St. Rosalia's intercession during plagues may give us hope – and inspire our prayers. The film was created by Emanuele Sesta and produced by the Paulist Media Office. We hope you enjoy it! (Don't miss Fr. Joe's prayer at the end.) Click the image above to watch, or click here! Upcoming Events Last weekend, we kicked off Hope for the Future, a comprehensive campaign for the Paulist Fathers. Watch Paulist President Fr. Eric Andrews talk about the campaign's goals below! The Paulists certainly don’t know anyone’s financial situation – especially in light of COVID-19 – but Fr. Eric’s approach will be to ask every family to make a meaningful and sacrificial gift. There are many methods of giving which can accommodate your current circumstances. The campaign offers flexible arrangements for when to pay and how to pay. Each family is asked to pray about what an appropriate sacrifice would be to provide meaningful support to the campaign and then complete an intention card. Because our parish is facing large expenses and because of our unique relationship as the original parish of the Paulist Fathers, the Paulists have graciously agreed to allow 50% of any gifts that are unrestricted, that is, not designated to one of the restricted areas of the campaign, to come to St. Paul the Apostle. Our parish will have a team of volunteers available to provide information, answer questions, and assist you in completing your pledge form. If you can't join us in-person, celebrate virtually via our livestream on our website, our YouTube page, or our Facebook page. Donate flowers for weekend masses and special occasions to beautify our sanctuary! Make a gift in honor of or in memory of a loved one. Their name - and even yours, if desired - will be acknowledged on our weekly newsletter and social media.
