AR#7 Honoring the life and service of Mrs. Mary Margaret Farabee: exemplary alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin

WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to a close with the passing of Mrs. Mary Margaret Farabee on March 3rd, 2013; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Farabee was born in Dallas in 1939 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin where she was a sister in the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority along with one of the first to fight against discriminatory UT polices; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Farabee's career included serving as Director of Volunteer Services for Seton Hospital, Senior Vice President at United Bank, and Vice President for Development at KLRU TV; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Farabee graciously gave her time serving others on: The University of Texas ) Press Council, the UT Harry Ransom Council, the People's Community Clinic, the Austin Community Foundation, the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, the Texas Child Study Center, the Lady Bird Johnson Wild Flower Center, and the Huston - Tillotson University Leadership Program, amongst many others; and,
WHEREAS, She joined with First Lady Laura Bush to establish the Texas Book Festival in 1996 and chaired its board of directors for eight years;
BE IT RESOLVED, that The University of Texas at Austin Student Government Association recognize and pay tribute to the life and public service of Mary Margaret Farabee and extend its deepest sympathy to the members of her family; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family, and when The University of Texas at Student Government Assembly adjourns this day, it do so in the memory of Mary Margaret Farabee.
