DEPARTMENT:

SALARY: $30.41-$41.51 per hour / $59,308 -$80,956 annually

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week, alternating Fridays and Saturdays, some evenings may be required.

Position Purpose: The Framingham , a recognized leader in collaborative programming, located 20 miles west of Boston with a 53,000 sq. ft. Downtown Main Library, a 17,000 sq. ft. branch library, plus a brand new Bookmobile, seeks a dynamic and energetic Bookmobile with the creativity, flexibility and enthusiasm to deliver mobile library services, including first rate collections, technology, and programming, to Framingham’s diverse and dynamic population.

Successful candidates will be flexible, energetic, dedicated to customer service, positive, and excited to oversee and drive Framingham Public Library’s 27-foot Bookmobile throughout the City’s neighborhoods, to special events, schools, and other destinations.

The position works in collaboration with Library Administration and staff to help the Library fulfill its mission as the premier community resource for free inquiry, creative enrichment, and lifelong learning.

Works under the direction of the Director of and/or the Assistant Director of Libraries.

Frequent contact with the public, community groups and other Library and City employees requires the exercise of tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.

May work at Main Library and/or the Branch Library as needed.

Essential Functions: (The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. ▪ Provides positive public service. ▪ Drives the Bookmobile to specified locations and returns on a predetermined schedule. ▪ Works with Administration and Department Heads to develop, coordinate, and facilitate Bookmobile services, routes, collections, technology, and maintenance.

▪ Develops and maintains collection for Bookmobile daily operation, which includes shelving, , and rotating materials including books, audio-visual material, Library of Things collection, etc. ▪ Maintains a flexible, dynamic collection in response to locations and routes. Recommends changes/additions to routes, schedules, and destinations as needed. ▪ Performs circulation functions using Sierra ILS including checking in and out materials, registering patrons, and placing reserves. ▪ Under the direction of the Supervisor of Technology serves as “mini-key user” of Bookmobile technology, performing basic troubleshooting and technology maintenance. ▪ Performs Reference and Research work and collection advisory as needed with support from Main and Branch Library Reference Staff. ▪ Works with fellow Department Heads in developing programming, special events, and marketing for the Bookmobile. ▪ Participates on select committees and working groups. ▪ Maintains detailed operations documentation and safety for the Bookmobile. ▪ Oversees maintenance schedule to ensure routine maintenance. Reports any problems to Director immediately. ▪ Performs other related duties as required.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience: ▪ Master’s Degree in from an ALA accredited institution; three to five (3-5) years of library and supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of and experience. ▪ Valid Massachusetts State driver’s license and excellent driving record required. ▪ Strong dedication to public service and equal access to library services. ▪ Strong understanding of library operations, including experience with automated circulation systems. ▪ Familiarity and comfort with current technology, devices, and common software programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite. ▪ Ability to handle multiple priorities. ▪ Effective verbal and written communication skills. ▪ Tact, diplomacy, flexibility. ▪ Familiarity with Spanish or Portuguese desirable.

Must be capable of supervising miscellaneous tools and office equipment relative to this position which shall include, but may not be limited to: computers, copiers, fax machines and calculators. Ability to move around the facility, walking, sitting, bending, climbing, kneeling, carrying and stooping; Ability to use hand and finger motion with enough manual dexterity to use computers and handle library items; Lift up to 40 pounds, or greater with assistance; and perform other

efforts as identified with normal library work. Communicate effectively with others, orally and in writing.

Supervision: Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Director of Libraries and/or the Assistant Director of Libraries.

Job Environment: ▪ Requires driving and working year round in a bookmobile that has heat/air conditioning. ▪ Requires regular travel around the community and loading/unloading materials and equipment in all kinds of weather and climatic conditions. ▪ Frequently required to bend, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. ▪ Moves back and forth between all areas of the library. ▪ Retrieves and replaces library materials from 2 inches from the floor to 7 feet from the floor. ▪ Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds, frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. ▪ Frequently pushes and pulls book truck carts. ▪ Views computers screens regularly while carrying out essential job functions. ▪ Work performed is subject to frequent interruptions, due to regular interactions with Library patrons, and may be performed in a public space, which may be louder than a typical office setting.
