Job Summary: The Bookmobile Librarian will be the outreach representative of the library, taking services to those unable to come to the main library. The Bookmobile Librarian will be responsible to the Director in matters of finance and final decisions as to route and major bookmobile maintenance. However, routine maintenance of the bookmobile will be the responsibility of the Bookmobile Librarian.

Job Duties: Essential job responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to:  Maintain a route schedule that takes the bookmobile into all sections of the county, where large groups of people may be served who otherwise many not receive library service, e. g. schools, nursing homes, Sr. Citizen Center, Housing Projects, etc.  Keep the bookmobile, as the library, in order by constant attention to both content and arrangement of bookshelves; also by careful attention to problems if circulation, including overdue. Select items from library to take to bookmobile; return items to library as needed. Maintain balanced collections for patron’s needs and wants.  Be responsible for route maintenance of the bookmobile and also weekly cleaning inside the bookmobile.  Keep records of circulation and mechanical maintenance and provide them to the Head Librarian,  Keep, as much as possible, the bookmobile on the road four days each of the two week schedule. The extra Friday or Monday will be used for working in the library.  Assist in Library during any working hours that the bookmobile is not able to run or is not scheduled to run. When route is finished for the day, assist in main library where needed.  Cooperate with Director and Children’s Librarian when programs are planned for the Bookmobile, e. g. Summer Programs.  Be willing to take classes for training to become certified, and attend any library conferences and other state meetings as required to maintain certification.

Experience & :  Must have valid Kentucky driver’s license with excellent driving record.  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  College degree or coursework preferred, especially in library science  General knowledge of , service and computers helpful.

Skills & Characteristics:  Ability to work independently.  Ability to read.  Basic computer skills required.  Ability to communicate verbally.  Ability to work with the public.  Ability to help older and/or patrons with limited mobility onto the bookmobile.

Physical Demands:  Must be able to lift 20-30 lbs.  Bending/twisting and reaching.  Sitting, standing, climbing stairs.  Visual ability to drive, type and file.  Mobility walking to homebound patrons, possible on grade and/or over rough terrain.

Work Environment:  On road 75-80% of work time. Limited access to restroom facilities.
