3 Every chronology is an endeavour to freeze time – an CHRONOLOGIES attempt to present numerous significant moments on a timeline as evidence of the fleetingness of the present moment, thereby confirming the significance of the past and leaving a lasting trace for the future. Our project Chronologies – A Chronology of Macedo- nian Cinematography (1895-2014) and A Chronology of the Cinematheque of Macedonia (1974-2014) is just such an endeavour. In this project we have sought to present the entire history and development of Macedonian cinematography and outline the devel- opment and activities of the Cinematheque of Mac- edonia, a national institution whose main activity and social responsibility is to protect and present the national audiovisual heritage. The publication of these two chronologies in Kinopis – the renowned Macedonian journal on the history, theory and culture of film and other arts – has been carried out to mark the holding of the 70th Congress of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) in Macedonia’s capital, Skopje. The chronologies cover a complex historical and theoretical field encompassing many findings and insights from previous research as well as fresh ap- proaches to Macedonian film production. Our principal objective in making a review of Mac- edonian cinema was to offer the public and academic audience for film an accessible publication of basic material that will enable further and deeper theoreti- cal and historical analysis. Chronologies is a confirmation of the nation’s work in film and culture – an exploration of the past, present and future that never ceases. We are happy to have preserved some of our past for the future. Mimi Gjorgoska-Ilievska, MA Cinematheque of Macedonia, Director

  • A Survey of Macedonian Literature in English Translation
A Survey of Macedonian Literature in English Translation “If I had an eagle’s wings I would rise and fly on them To see our shores, to our own parts…” From Konstantin Miladinov’s, “Longing for the South” Macedonian may arguably be the oldest written Slavic language as the basis for Kiril and Methodius' 9th century translations of Christian liturgical texts into what we today call the Old Church Slavic language. However, it is also the most recent Slavic language to receive official recognition and standardization after the establishment of the Republic of Macedonia as part of Yugoslavia in 1946. The number of literary works by Macedonian authors in English translation today is only surpassed by translations in Serbian and/or Croatian during the existence of the former Yugoslavia. Particularly since the full independence of the Republic since the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990's, the pace of publication of English language translations has increased dramatically. This is due in part to the large concentrations of Macedonian immigrants, numbering in the tens of thousands, in major cities throughout English-speaking Canada, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom, and a dramatic increase in communication and collaboration among members of the Macedonian diaspora and Macedonians in the home country with improved means of travel and the effective spread of internet communication worldwide. I have participated in this process as the author of a doctoral dissertation published by the University Press of America in 1996, The 19th Century Macedonian Awakening, the life and works of Kiril Peichinovich, one of the earliest writers in the modern Macedonian language, and as the translator of a number of literary works, beginning with the short story "Tatko" by Zhivko Chingo, published in Short Story International in 1983 and most recently the novel The Legend of Kalesh Andja by Stale Popov, published by the Literary Association "Grigor Prlichev" of Sydney, Australia in 2005.

A digital collection containing the video interviews, as well as transcripts, is available online at http://lib.stanford.edu/women-art-revolution. Biographical Note Lynn Hershman Leeson (b. 1941) is a performance artist and filmmaker who, in various media, has investigated the idea of selfhood and what establishes an individual as a sentient, gendered, unique person. Between the years of 1974 and 1978, Hershman Leeson spent much of her time performing as an alter ego, the character Roberta Breitmore. Much of the work--drawings, photographs, clothing, medical records, letters, etc.--Hershman Leeson produced during the Breitmore years related to the character's emotional and practical existences. Hershman Leeson seemed to be demonstrating that the two existences could and should not be easily separated--nor should the artist herself be easily separated from the character she created.

1 2 Aleksandar DONSKI THE MYSTERY OF THE COPPER BOOK THE MYSTERIOUS WRITINGS ABOUT THE TREASURE OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT OF MACEDONIA - Historical thriller, inspired by real events - Published by: Aleksandar Donski (the author) English Translation: Dr. Michael Seraphinoff Reviews: Prof. D-r Maria Kubaiska (USA, Macedonia) Prof. D-r Michael Seraphinoff (USA) Cover design: Aleksandar Donski Electronic edition, 2015 All rights reserved by the author! 3 He stood alone in front of the dimly-lit imperial palace. Not another living soul was about. He felt some strange presentiment. Some nameless fear gnawed at him. Suddenly, huge black clouds filled the sky to the east. They had approached with such speed as if pulled by swift chariots. Day was transformed into night. The first lightning bolts lit up the sky. They struck mercilessly at his palace. It began to tremble and then to crumble before his eyes. The walls fell away as if they were mere shards of wood. He stood helplessly by, rooted in place. He watched the terrible scene, powerless to intervene. Thunder and lightning, raging black sky… Horror! He wanted to cry out. But he could not utter a sound. In no time the walls of his luxurious palace were reduced to rubble… But that was not the end of his troubles. He felt some unknown presence. He turned to look… He felt a shiver rise up his spine. Suddenly the visage of an ancient black-robed crone rose up before him. Her harsh and terrible gaze cut into him like a knife. His eyes were glued to her.

  • Pocket Diary 2015 the Bottled Wasp
THE BOTTLED WASP POCKET DIARY 2015 THE BOTTLED WASP POCKET DIARY 2015 Welcome to the 2015 Bottled Wasp Pocket Diary, a fundraising project in aid of the Anarchist Black Cross network and other groups involved in the prisoner support arena. The aim of the project is to create a self-sustaining template for production that will feature different areas of radical political history and practice each year, and that will hopefully be taken on by a dif- ferent group from a rotating network of activists. Last year’s edition of the Wasp, with its coverage of the hidden history of the contributions of anarchists and other radicals to both the avant-garde and mainstream arts around the world, with its cover by London street artist Stik, proved something of a success. So, we hope to do even better this year with this anti- fascist history edition, which features numerous individuals and collective actions and events from across the whole history of the resistance to ultra-nationalism, fascism and Nazism; wher- ever and when ever it has raised its ugly head. If you enjoy the diary, we hope that you will help spread the news far and wide and help make the Bottled Wasp a success in future years. [What is harmful about fascism is that it causes fools to believe they’re very smart. The more he is an idiot , the more fascism makes him feel proud of himself.] - Osvaldo Soriano in ‘Fútbol’ (1998).
