CAREER CORNER at ACSS areer November 8, 2018 o r SFU & BCIT CAMPUS TOURS – Friday, November 23 n Students are invited to submit an application to attend this field trip where we will tour the campuses e of Simon Fraser University and then the British Columbia Institute of Technology, both in Burnaby. r Applications are available in the Counselling Centre and will need to be returned by Friday, November 16. A list of approved applicants will be posted on Tuesday, November 20 in the Counselling Centre. Education and Career Fair – Monday, December 3 Our Grade 10 students will get to enjoy a field trip to the UFV campus in Abbotsford and permission forms will be coming home soon! LANGLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT EVENTS OR OPPORTUNITIES: Youth TRAIN in Trades The Langley School District offers a wide variety of Youth TRAIN in Trades programs which run out of Langley District secondary schools as well as Post-Secondary Institutions within the Langley borders. Students in grade 11 and 12 accepted to participate in one of the Youth TRAIN in Trades programs receive elective credits towards graduation, post-secondary credits, and Industry Training Authority (ITA) technical trades apprenticeship training at the same time. We are pleased to offer the following 7 programs: Auto Service Technician (at ACSS from Feb – Jul) Carpentry (at ACSS from Feb - Jul) Electrical (at DW Poppy from Feb - Jul) Hairstylist (at ACSS from Feb - Jan) Horticulture (at Kwantlen Polytechnic University from Feb - Jul) Piping/Plumbing (at LSS from Feb – Jan) Professional Cook 1 (at WGSS from Sep – Jun) There may be some spaces available for programs starting in January 2019, and if you’re interested, please email Mrs. Smith at [email protected] or stop in to the Counselling Centre for more information or to apply to this program. Forensic Sciences Tour Grades 10 - 12 Wednesday, Dec 5, 2018 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM Itinerary Students will meet at the School Board Office at 8:30AM then depart by bus to SFU School of Criminology, the School of Archeology, and the School of Anthropology for presentations. They will then have an opportunity to visit the SFU Anthropology Museum. An interesting day, if you are thinking about a career in this field of study. See your school Career Advisor for more information Applications due to SBO – Nov 27, 2018 CAREER CORNER at ACSS areer November 8, 2018 o r n COMMUNITY EVENTS, INFORMATION OR OPPORTUNITIES: e r FALL 2019 – PSI APPLICATIONS OPEN Applications for Fall 2019 at most post-secondary institutions opened on October 1, 2018. Be sure to check the institution website directly to verify program specific deadlines. Some programs are first- come, first-qualified. Apply early! HOW DO I APPLY FOR POST-SECONDARY? This will depend on where the College/University you are applying to is located. Most BC PSIs require you to apply on the Education Planner website. Most Ontario PSIs require you to apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). Most US PSIs require you to apply through the Common Application. Education Planner BC Education Planner BC is an education planning tool that provides students with clear, reliable and detailed information on BC post-secondary education. Most public PSIs in BC receive their applications electronically through the Education Planner application service. Students can create an account, review and submit for each PSI of interest. Please visit https://www.educationplannerbc.ca for advice, information and resources to help you plan your educational journey. Please note – UBC is not on the Education Planner BC website.
