2016 Chapter Executive CHAIR’S MESSAGE  Chair Sharon Barr, P.Eng. On behalf of the Chapter Executive, I am pleased to present this summary  Vice-Chair of the chapter’s accomplishments and activities for 2016. 56th PEO Ottawa Chapter New Members Nights Annual General Meeting (AGM) The Ottawa Chapter formally welcomed a total of 65 The 56th PEO Ottawa Chapter Annual General Meeting licence holders in 2016 in three separate ceremonies. (AGM) was held on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 at Sala San Marco on Preston Street. Approximately 100 people attended the AGM, including seven new members who received their licence certificates.

94th PEO Annual General Meeting

The 94th PEO Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. Our Chair Sharon Barr and Vice Chair Kathryn Sutherland were invited delegates representing the Ottawa Chapter. The theme of the meeting was ‘Step by Step’, advancing and regulating engineering practice in the public interest. The keynote speaker was Jesse Brown, journalist and publisher of Canadaland. Chapter By-Law Amendments

The 2016 Committee Members were Ingrid de Buda, David Grant and Joe Podrebarac. There were no by-law amendments ratified at the 2016 AGM. The committee proposed the amendment of two clauses. Following is the original clause, the proposed amendment and the rationale for the change:

The facilities include makers space, Brunsfield centre, entrepreneurship classes and workshop, capstone projects and specific workshops. The other resources include: Carleton University Lead to Win program lead by Professor Toni Bailetti; Invest Ottawa; Futurpreneur; and Ottawa Community Loan Fund. We had a meeting with the Executive Director of The Indus Enterprise (TiE) for mutual support. National Arts Center Tour Diefenbunker Tour

SCES Carleton Resume Roast

On Wednesday, November 2nd, 2016, PEO Ottawa Chapter participated in a ”Resume Roast” event, hosted by the Systems and Computer Engineering Society at Carleton University. A total of six student-submitted resumes were presented before an audience of approximately 45 attendees and three panelists. The resumes were critiqued on form and content, with suggestions for changes and improvements so students could put their best foot forward when presenting themselves to prospective employers. A lively Q & A 2017 Council Elections session followed, which included some sample technical interview questions. The SCESoc thanked panelists for "awesome participation and ruthless roasts; you have made the difference in a lot of students resumes and therefore in their career paths”.

The Government Liaison Program positions PEO on the same side of the table with government to solve public interest issues related to engineering. At the chapter level, engagement with local politicians evolved around the following activities:

1. Hydro-One Info Session, held at 255 Centrum Blvd, Orleans on Friday, June 10th, 2016 by the MPP Marie France-Lalonde, Government Whip and Parliament Assistant – Economic Development. Ottawa GLP team introduced themselves to the MPP and discussed a potential future collaboration.

2. Golf event with MPP Jim McDonnell on Friday, June 17th, 2016 in Cornwall. The industrial repeal was discussed. After understanding the issues, MPP McDonnell indicated he would support it.
