PAST EVENTS Senators Hockey Night Your Ottawa Senators vs PEO Ottawa Chapter Toronto Maple Leafs Monday, March 9, 2009 Annual General Meeting Wednesday, February 13, 2009 Once again, family and friends joined us for a fun night at The Ledge, which included dinner and the hockey game, but not just The Ottawa Chapter held its 49th AGM on February 13 at any hockey game – a Battle of Ontario hockey game, with the the Travelodge at Carling and Kirkwood. Our thanks to Senators battling it out with the Toronto Maple Leafs. A great Gerald Oakham, PhD, professor of Physics at Carleton evening was had by all 38 guests, with Ottawa winning the game University, who gave an interesting and informative 2-1. Unfortunately, the Sens did not make the playoffs, but we presentation on the preparation of ATLAS and its pioneering will support the team again next year. Go Sens Go! work with the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) located at the CERN laboratory in Geneva. We would also like to extend thanks to the nearly 100 members and guests who attended that night.

PEO Engineering Curling Bonspiel Friday, March 6, 2009

The 28th Ottawa Valley Engineers Curling Bonspiel was held on Friday, March 6 at the Nepean Sportsplex. Twelve teams participated in the event. The winning team (pictured at right) was from David McManus Engineering Ltd. (Mike Keating: skip; Mike Green: third (not in picture); Blair Pearen: second; and Alex Mcauley: lead). Second-place team was from Robinson Consultants Inc. and the third-place team was from J.L.Richards & Associates Limited. The bonspiel committee would like to thank IP Group, Golder Associates Ltd., Jacques Whitford Limited and J.L. Richards and Associates Limited for their generous donations for this event. Labour Market Study Tuesday, March 17, 2009

On March 17, the Ottawa Chapter hosted a presentation entitled “Engineering and Technology Labour Market Study” at the Nepean Sailing Club. The speaker was John O’Grady of Prism Economics & Analysis. Approximately 50 people attended, including many of our Chapter's professional engineers, EITs, and others, including representatives from Algonquin College. A special recognition should be made of Donald Wallace, Executive Director of the Ontario Centre for Engineering and Public Policy (OCEPP), who was immensely helpful with planning and organizing the availability of the speaker.
