Editor’s Note It is a matter of immense pleasure to bring out the present issue (No.17) for it being the first issue since its inclusion in UGC-CARE. This issue of Critic includes twenty-seven articles and a book review, reflecting on a wide range of topical issues concerning Russian language, literature, culture, methodology and comparative literature. The journal has been divided into five sections, namely: Language, Literature, Culture, Methodology and Book review. The language section has five articles, comprising issues like familial antiquates, emoji, cognitive-pragmatic aspects in folktales, sports metaphor in political discourse and Anglicism. The joint article of Kiran Singh Verma and Khadicha Shambetalieva, entitled “Об особенностях семейного этикета и родственных отношений в кыргызской и индийской семьях”, attempts to conduct a comparative study of family etiquettes in India and Kyrgyzia. The authors focus on several common traits, observed in these two countries, due to their Asian origin. Meenu Bhatnagar’s article on “Emoji – a Universal Visual Language for Virtual Communication” examines the phenomenon of emoji as the growing trend in virtual communication around the world. The article presents a comprehensive idea of different emojis and explores reasons for its growing popularity as well as its influence on communication in virtual space. Hrishika Katyayan, in her article “Когнитивно-прагматический аспект изучения имён собственных в русских народных сказках” discusses the proper names in Russian fairy-tale texts and their functioning in fairy-tale discourse. Kiran Bandra in her article “Cognitive Study of Sports Metaphors in Political Discourse: Based on the materials in Russian Mass Media” analyzes sports metaphor from the cognitive approach, considering the lexical- semantic and the stylistic features. Priteesh Kumar investigates the use of English words in enriching Russian and Hindi through his paper on Anglicism in Russian and Hindi. He opines that the use of anglicisms in Russian and Hindi languages and the speech of the people is inevitable but their use should not be at the cost of influencing our own culture, language and ethnicity. The literature section has ten articles on folk tales and folk beliefs, Russian literature of pre- Soviet, Soviet and post-Soviet period, and on comparative studies. Nasar Sakeel Roomi, in his article “Cosmic identity of Slavic and Indian folk beliefs” discusses the various aspects of the cosmic identity of the sun in Slavic and Indian context with special reference to the Magadha. Ranjana Banerjee, in her article “A Review of Late and Post-Soviet Russian Literature” discusses the various literary trends and their characteristics in detail, from 1985 onwards. Vinay Kumar Ambedkar in his article “Маргинальное пространство в творчестве Романа Сенчина и Омпракаша Валмики” compares literary space of contemporary Russian and Indian autobiographical novels, by exploring the marginalized space in the trans-cultural context. The article by Nagendra Shreeniwas “Образ власти через портрет Понтия Пилата в романе Михаила Булгакова «Мастер и Маргарита»” studies Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita. It attempts to understand the inherent qualities of power primarily through the portrait of Pontius Pilot in the novel. The article “Детские образы-персонажи в русских волшебных сказках” by Inna Viktorovna Ledovskaya is an attempt to peep into the wonderful world of Russian fairy tales. It analyses some of the most beautifully crafted child characters in fairy tales of Russia. Pooja Chauhan’s article “Resonance of Dark and Symbolism of Night in Lyudmila Petrushevskaya’s The Time: Night and Shashi Deshpande The Dark Holds No Terrors” depicts the complexities of mother-daughter relationship. It also highlights the issues in broken families. Tanaji S. Kamble and Tripti K. Karekatti, in their article “Depiction of Anti-Semitism in Gary i Shteyngart`s Absurdistan” discusses hardships faced by Soviet Jews in the Soviet Union and the outside world. The article by Subhash Kumar Thakur “New village prose in modern Russian Literature: Traditions and transformations traces” the evolutionary path of the genre ‘new village prose’ in the 20th-century Russian literature. The article “Images of Unhappy Children, Deprived of Childhood in the Stories of A. P. Chekhov "Vanka", "Sleepy" and "The Runaway"” by Ravinder Singh, focuses on the hardships of underprivileged and poverty-stricken children in pre- revolutionary Russia, as portrayed in the works of Anton Chekhov. It, as well, accentuates the severity of today’s condition of poor and orphan children across the globe. Raj kumar, in his article “निकोलाय 焼बोलो配सकी का का핍य-संसार”, throws light on the poetic world of the famous Russian poet Nikolay Zabolotski, highlighting his vision on philosophy, love for nature, the beauty of mind and life & death. Under the section Culture, there are six articles, pondering over a wide range of subjects such as soviet cinema, beliefs, internal Diaspora, language policy and caricatures. The article “Imaging an imagined community: Cinema and nostalgia for the Soviet past” by Rashmi Doraiswamy examines selected post-Soviet films from the standpoint of the theory of nostalgia. Nostalgia posits a past as ‘secure’ as ‘stable’, particularly in times of transition and times of trial and tribulation. In the post-Soviet era, nostalgia becomes important as a counter to apocalyptic and dystopic narratives. The article also deals with the issue of the multicultural ethos of Soviet life as something that is disintegrating in post-Soviet times. In her article on “Indian and Russian Beliefs: A Comparative Analysis”, Manuradha Chaudhary investigates some common beliefs in Indian and Russian societies and based on such beliefs, she attempts to explore the similarities and dissimilarities in Indian and Russian beliefs. Anju Rani’s article on “The Problem of Identity of Internal Diaspora after the Fall of Soviet Union” studies different aspects of internal diaspora and related identity issues based on the major works of some historians and sociologists. The paper also investigates the possible reasons for ethnic and regional identity clashes after the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Cinema has played an important role in strengthening the cooperation and friendship between India and Russia. Cinema has been one of the major cultural exchanges between the two nations. The article “Роль кино в культурной дипломатии между Индией и Россией” by Parijat Bhattacherjee elaborates the role of cinema in cultural diplomacy between India and Russia. Ashish Kumar in his article “Language Policy and the Constitution: A Comparative Study of India and Russia” discusses the importance of the language policy in the multilingual societies of India and Russia and acquaints with a few specificities in the respective language policies. Md. Waris Aqueel through his article “Изображение некоторых социальных проблем в карикатурах России и Индии” acquaints the reader with the cartoons of India and Russia. He analyses the Indian and Russian cartoons on social problems and highlights the techniques and tools used to depict the problems. The two articles on Methodology deals with various aspects of teaching methods. The article "Natural School and Pedagogical Views of V.G. Belinsky" by Krishnakumar R. S explores the school education system in Russia. The author attempts to unfold the methods used by Belinsky to improve Russian educational systems through the prism of "Natural School". Sonu Saini, in his article “Время принять инновационные методы преподавания на основе технологии”, talks about various methods he has used in Russian teaching-learning process. He describes these methods and highlights how these methods help to improve the interaction between the teacher and the students, thereby motivating students to learn Russian effectively.
