TITLE COVID-19 Pandemic Situation Report SERIAL NUMBER 33 EPID-WEEK 23 DATE 01 June 2020

HIGHLIGHTS  No new confirmed case(s) reported today  Six (6) contacts have completed 14 days follow-up without any symptoms  Nineteen (19) new contacts of the confirmed cases have been identified and line-listed by the contact tracing teams in , , and Nguru LGAs  Three (3) new alerts have been received and investigated in , Gulani, and Bade LGAs.

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SUMMARY:  The total number of confirmed COVID-19 case(s) remains fifty-two (52): Twenty-one (21) cases from Damaturu, twelve (12) cases from Nguru, nine (9) cases from Bade, three (3) cases from Potiskum, and one (1) case each from , , , Fika, , Gulani, and LGAs  Total confirmed case(s) of COVID-19 amongst Health Care Workers (HCWs) in the state is fourteen (14): Seven (7) nurses, five (5) doctors, one (1) physiotherapist, and one (1) laboratory scientist  The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the state is seven (7)  Total number of case(s) who recovered and have been discharged from the state isolation centers is twenty-four (24)  The total number of contacts who completed the 14 days follow-up without developing symptoms as of today is three hundred and forty-six (346)  Twenty-one (21) confirmed cases in the state isolation centers are in stable condition  The total number of samples taken for testing is one hundred and fourteen (114). Fifty-two (52) of these samples results are positive; thirty-two (32) sample results are negative; and thirty (30) sample results are for a repeat test. No sample result is pending in the NCDC laboratory.

THEMATIC INTERVENTIONS Coordination:  Conducted engagement meetings with partners and private stakeholders to strengthen Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for mobilization of resources and scaling-up responses  Supported LGA level coordination of the COVID-19 response in Damaturu, Potiskum, Bade, and Nguru LGAs.

Surveillance and Epidemiology:  Three (3) new alerts have been received and investigated in Potiskum, Gulani and Bade LGAs  Six (6) contacts have completed 14 days follow-up without any symptoms  Three (3) new contacts of the confirmed cases have been identified and line-listed by the contact tracing teams in Bursari LGA  Conducted monitoring of two hundred and twenty (220) contacts of confirmed cases.

Point of Entry (POE):  Conducted screening of thirty-two (32) Almajiris deported from Taraba to Yobe state  Conducted supportive supervision of POE teams in Damaturu LGA.

Case Management:  No new admission(s) in the state isolation centers  No new discharges from the isolation centers  Twenty-one (21) confirmed cases in the state isolation centers are in stable condition.

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC):  SMOH in collaboration with AAH conducted sensitization in six (6) communities (Lewe, Lewe-Shula, Jokre, Goiko, Badawa, and Banale) in Fika LGA, and three (3) communities (Garin Malan, Kusotoko and Konkomma) in Machina LGAs on COVID-19 prevention: A total of one thousand two hundred and fifty-eight (1,258) people were reached  SMOH with support from AAH Nigeria conducted sensitization of two hundred and seven (207) caregivers, on COVID 19 prevention, during Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) activities in seven (7) communities of Gujba LGA  SMOH in collaboration with AAH Nigeria WASH team conducted sensitization on COVID-19 prevention in , Tikau, and Fakarau duddaye and Dogon-marke communities of Nangere and Gujba LGAs respectively: A total of nine hundred and ninety-four (994) people were reached.

Laboratory and Diagnostic Support:  No sample result is pending in the NCDC laboratory  No sample(s) was collected today  The total number of samples taken for testing is one hundred and fourteen (114). Risk Communication and Social Mobilization:  Continued public sensitization through radio jingles, motorized campaigns, and TV programs  SMOH in with support from AAH distributed 968 IEC materials (71 packs of face masks, 72 packs of latex hand gloves masks and 100 bottles of 500ml Hand Sanitizers) to health facilities in Gujba, , Machina, Fika, Nguru, and Damaturu LGAs

Logistics and Operational Support:  Distributed COVID-19 supplies to LGA PHC departments, secondary and tertiary HFs, emirates councils, and agencies of government  Distributed pedal hand washing units to Masjids, MDAs, Emirates, Cemeteries in Bade, Damaturu, Geidam, Nguru, and Potiskum, and other identified high traffic areas  Received donation from N-SHIP project and private individuals in the state  Engaged with the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) team from First Bank Nig. Ltd in Yobe for equipping the isolation center in YSUTH.

CHALLENGES:  Inadequate PPEs and IPC commodities to sustain high-quality IPC in isolation centers and public places  Insecurity and military operations affecting risk communication activities in remote communities of Geidam, Gulani, and Gujba LGAs.

NEXT STEP(S): • Procure and/or mobilize additional PPEs and IPC commodities • Scale-up IPC measures in all COVID-19 isolation centers in the state • Commence motorized campaign to scale-up risk communication in high-burden LGAs.
