YOBE STATE MINISTRY OF HEALTH Situation Report TITLE COVID-19 Pandemic Situation Report SERIAL NUMBER 150 EPID-WEEK 04 DATE 25 – 31 January 2021 HIGHLIGHTS: Twenty (20) new confirmed cases were reported in week 04, 2021 The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is now two hundred and forty-one (241) Four (4) patients have recovered and got discharged No COVID-19 related mortality was recorded for 36 consecutive weeks All 17 LGAs in Yobe state have now recorded at least one confirmed COVID-19 case(s) Two hundred and sixty-two (262) samples were collected in week 04. This is a significant increase in sample collection compared to the preceding week (76 samples collected in week 03) Twenty (20) samples tested positive, two hundred and nineteen (219) are negative, and the results of the remaining twenty-three (23) samples are pending The SPHCMB team, in collaboration with partners, conducted the motorized awareness creation campaign in high-burden LGAs (Damaturu, Bade, Potiskum, and Nguru) Yobe SMOH team, in collaboration with WHO HTR teams and AVADAR informants, UNICEF VCMs, and CGPP volunteers, conducted mass community sensitization, reaching 13,754 people with COVID- 19 prevention messages The SMOH team, in collaboration with National Orientation Agency (NOA) and partners, conducted sensitization on COVID-19 prevention 12 in primary and secondary schools to scale-up IPC measures. EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SUMMARY: The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is two hundred and forty-one (241). Fifty-nine (59) cases from Damaturu, fifty-two (52) cases from Nguru, thirty (30) cases from Fika, twenty-six (26) cases from Bade, twenty-cases (21) cases each from Potiskum, and Nangere, six (6) cases from Karasuwa, five (5) cases from Jakusko, four (4) cases from Tarmuwa, three (3) cases each from Gulani, Yusufari, and Bursari, Geidam, Fune, and Gujba have two (2) cases each, and two (2) other LGAs (Yunusari, and Machina) have one (1) case each 1 | P a g e The total number of active confirmed cases in the state is thirty (30) The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 amongst Health Care Workers (HCWs) is nineteen (19). These include nine (9) doctors, seven (7) nurses, one (1) physiotherapist, and two (2) laboratory scientist The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in the state is eight (8) The total number of patients who recovered from COVID-19 is two hundred and three (203) The total number of contacts who completed 14 days of monitoring without symptoms is one thousand, four hundred and twenty-four (1,424) The total number of samples collected is five thousand, three hundred and eighteen (5,318). Surveillance and Epidemiology: All 17 LGAs in Yobe state have now recorded confirmed COVID-19 case(s) The case fatality rate amongst confirmed cases is 3.3% The positivity rate for week 4 is 8.4.1%, which represents a decrease compared to the positivity rate of the preceding week (16.1 %). The case to contact ratio is 1:7 The percentage of contacts that were confirmed positive is 6.6% Ninety-nine (99) additional contacts were line-listed by the contact tracing teams in Bade, Damaturu, Jakusko, Fika, Gujba, Potiskum, Yusufari, Nangere, Nguru, and Yunusari LGAs Thirty-eight (38) contacts have completed 14 days of monitoring without symptoms in week 3. Point of Entry (POE): Conducted screening of passengers at the Points of Entries (POEs) Conducted supportive supervision at the POE in Bade, Geidam, Potiskum, Nguru, and Yusufari LGAs. Case Management: Twenty (20) newly confirmed cases have been reported Four (4) patients have recovered and were discharged from isolation facilities No COVID-19 related mortality was recorded for 36 consecutive weeks. 6 | P a g e Infection Prevention and Control (IPC): Conducted decontamination and disinfection of SSH molecular diagnostic laboratory, SSH, and FMC Nguru Isolation centers Conducted decontamination and disinfection of house-holds of confirmed cases The SMOH team, in collaboration with National Orientation Agency (NOA) and partners, conducted sensitization on COVID-19 prevention in Primary, and Secondary schools to scale-up IPC measures. Laboratory and Diagnostic Support: Twenty (20) samples tested positive, two hundred and nineteen (219) are negative, and the results of the remaining twenty-three (23) samples are pending Following-up with the laboratory team to retrieve pending sample results The total number of samples collected is five thousand, three hundred and eighteen (5,318). Two hundred and forty-one (241) results are positive, five thousand, and twelve (5,012) are negative, forty- two (42) for a repeat test, and twenty-three (23) remaining sample results are pending. Risk Communication and Social Mobilization: Conducted mass community sensitization through radio jingles and phone-in program at Yobe State Broadcasting Cooperation (YBC) The SPHCMB team, in collaboration with partners, conducted the motorized campaign in high-burden LGAs (Damaturu, Bade, Potiskum, and Nguru) Yobe SMOH team, in collaboration with WHO HTR teams and AVADAR informants, UNICEF VCMs, and CGPP volunteers, conducted mass community sensitization, reaching 13,754 people with COVID- 19 prevention messages. Logistics and Operational Support: Distributed COVID-19 IPC commodities to SSH molecular diagnostic laboratory and FMC Nguru isolation center Distributed PPEs and IEC materials to the IPC, Surveillance, POE, and Risk Communication teams.
