COURSE TITLE Naval Command School (Foreign ) COURSE LOCATION COMFORPAT Augusta, COURSE OBJECTIVES To prepare attendees to assume ship's command The course is mainly oriented towards practical instead of theoretical training with the aim to provide realistic situations to the students on how to safely COURSE CURRICULUM manoeuvre ships both day and night time within harbours and at open seas also within a task group.

COURSE TITLE Basic Officer Course COURSE LOCATION COURSE OBJECTIVES To train and develop young men and women who aspire to be naval officers Designed to train officers designated to embark and take future command of naval units and/or operating entities of the armed . Upon completion of the three year course of study, officers will be awarded a degree in Maritime & Naval Science. Subsequently, at the end of the fourth year, the officers will COURSE CURRICULUM attend the courses and apprenticeships achieving one of the following ratings: Telecommunications, Artillery or Antisom (whose choice will be indicated by bilateral agreements) and useful for the achievement of the Master's Degree in Maritime and Naval Sciences at partner University. 3 academic years for a degree, 2 academic years (including the qualification period and internship) for obtaining the Master's Degree in Maritime and Naval Sciences. Foreign Students attend a preparatory course at one of two locations: Loreto or Perugia with a tentative start in March/April. Upon receiving satisfying marks on the final Italian language proficiency exam (August) and meeting COURSE DURATION all physical standards, admittance will be granted into the 1st Class of the Basic Officer Course. The course consists of at least two embarkations on an Italian training school ship in which midshipmen are integrated into the daily life of an operating unit at sea. Each embarkation takes place during the summer for a total duration of around 10 weeks. NUMBER OF AVAILABLE POSITIONS FOR ~ 1 per every 6/7 Italian students, 9/10 maximum. FOREIGN STUDENTS - High school diploma or equivalent, preferably from a nautical or scientific institution, that satisfies requirements for entry into third level education. Diplomas, for entry into Italian University, should be the original copy with an attached Italian translation and be validated by the school system of the respective nation. Diplomas must be turned in immediately upon arrival in Italy. - Must be in good mental and physical standing to meet requirements of an officer serving in the . Upon arrival foreign students will undergo a series of medical examinations to determine medical readiness, in particular, COURSE students must have 10/10 vision. PREREQUISITES - Must be between the ages of 18-22 years. - Students must successfully complete the Italian language course at either Loreto or Perugia (minimal level for admission is L2-S1-R1-W1 IAW STANAG 6001, Edition 4). - compulsory membership on the Hational Health Service. - Upon arrival in Italy to show the entire scheduled school records is mandatory - Failure to pass / possession of one of the aforementioned requirements, involves the immediate repatriation to home nation. COURSE TITLE Basic Engineering Officer Training Course COURSE LOCATION Naval Academy – Livorno To train and develop young men and women who aspire to be naval COURSE OBJECTIVES engineering officers For officers designated to work within ship propulsion plants. Upon completion study, officers will be awarded a degree in Naval Engineering. COURSE CURRICULUM A percentage of officers will be awarded a degree in civil and environmental engineering for follow on work in the field of infrastructure. 6 academic years (4 at the Naval Academy and 2 at a conventional state university) The course consists of at least two embarkations on an Italian training school COURSE DURATION ship in which midshipmen are integrated into the daily life of an operating unit at sea. Each embarkation takes place during the summer for a total duration of around 10 weeks. NUMBER OF AVAILABLE POSITIONS 3 FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS - High school diploma or equivalent, preferably from a nautical or scientific institution, that satisfies requirements for entry into third level education. COURSE TITLE Junior Staff Course COURSE LOCATION Naval Staff College (NSC) - Provide students with knowledge and skills required to developing, planning and conducting staff activities related to Navy and Joint central/peripheral Commands, within national, foreign and international organizations.

Participants will acquire: - main principles of the “Working Methods and Operating Planning Procedures” currently in use at national and NATO level (namely COPD); COURSE OBJECTIVES - written and oral “Communications” skills, with specific reference to forms of communications in use at headquarters; the value of strategic communications; elements of Public Relations; - main principles of “Doctrine” and “Strategy,” with a focus on the international environment in which Armed Forces (Navy in particular) operate; - main principles of “Management” and “International, Maritime and Humanitarian Law.” The educational course is based on an increasing level of complexity of information and crisis scenarios faced by the students.

The learning process includes: - classes held by trained officers; - additional classes/conferences held by subject matter experts with solid academic and background or widely known for their knowledge COURSE CURRICULUM on the topic; - individual and group exercises and syndicates; - attendance to specific seminars and conferences planned, organized and held at the Institute.

Students performances will be evaluated through intermediate tests, in each subject, and a final, overall examination. COURSE TITLE Hydrography professional qualification (Idr) (Category B Surveyor) COURSE LOCATION Istituto Idrografico della Marina - To provide the know-how necessary to perform the tasks of the Hydrographic Officer on board survey vessels and at hydrographic services (technical divisions). COURSE OBJECTIVES The course provides the know-how required to be certified as Category B Surveyor after two years of training on the job.

The course at IIM is divided into two phases: phase “0” - 4 weeks – to provide the basic knowledge required to attend phase “1”; COURSE CURRICULUM phase “1” - 17 weeks- to deal with technical and specialized matters in the field of hydro-. Lessons are in English.

8 months (November - August), 25 weeks for theory classes at the Istituto COURSE DURATION Idrografico della Marina, 8 weeks practice sessions on board survey vessels. NUMBER OF AVAILABLE POSITIONS 3 FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS  /sublieutenant, corps of staff officers; COURSE  Petty officers and seamen, combat system TLC and specialists; PREREQUISITES  High-school degree, preferably scientific or technical;  Fluent English, to be assessed before the course. COURSE TITLE Specialization in Hydro-Oceanography (IDO) (Category “A” surveyor) COURSE LOCATION Istituto Idrografico della Marina - Genoa To provide the technical and practical skills required to obtain the II level master degree in marine geomatics:  planning and supervising surveys and performing data validation;  improving the theory and practice of hydrography, oceanography and COURSE OBJECTIVES nautical sciences;  teaching hydrography and oceanography at military training centres; The master allows to be certified Category A Surveyor after two years of training on the job. Two academic years as follows:  phase 1 - 16 weeks, 10 of which for classes and 6 for exam preparation - theory;  phase 2 - 20 weeks, 13 of which for classes and 7 for exam preparation - theory; COURSE CURRICULUM  phase 3 - 10 weeks training on survey vessels/in hydrography and geodesy campaigns/at the IIM;  phase 4 - 10 weeks, 2 of which for lessons and practical sessions and 8 for training and dissertation. Lessons are in English.

CHIEF PETTY OFFICERS’ REGULAR COURSE AND APPLICATION COURSE TITLE COURSE COURSE LOCATION Navy Petty Officer School TARANTO The course is aimed at providing the attending personnel with the knowledge required to be employed as Chief Petty Officers for carrying out 2nd level tasks such as controller and/or shift foreman, maintenance staff supervisor, fiduciary of warrant COURSE OBJECTIVES officer aboard small units with the possibility of achieving 3rd and 4th levels assignments, involving coordination and high-specialised charges. Upon completion of the course, the Chief Petty Officers can obtain the three-year academic degree.

The Chief Petty Officer regular course consists of three years: 1st year : “Basic Formation”, “Specialist Preparatory”, and 1st year Academic and Specialist Studies:  Boatswain  Combat System Specialists  Combat System Technicians  Platform System Technician  Harbour Pilots  Qualified Nurses Upon completion of this 1st year the naval training campaign is carried out. 2nd year: 2nd Academic and Specialist Studies; different studies for each specialization:

Pilots - Sensor Operators NAVAL HELICOPTERS STATION COURSE LOCATION MARISTAELI LUNI – MARISTAELI CATANIA (Squadrons Operative Departments) The NVG practical course aims to train staff pilot and mission system operator, both from a theoretical and practical point of view , in order to acquire all the knowledge and skills necessary to the use of Night Vision Goggles (NVG) .

I goers will acquire : theoretical and practical knowledge for use of NVG allowing you to take COURSE OBJECTIVES off/landing from airports, aviation surfaces, pitches and helicopters from areas deemed appropriate by the boundary command to make navigation and/transfers of land at altitudes not lower than 500 ft AGL except in the early stages necessary for landing. On sea the minimum will be 200 ft ASL and will be allowed to drop below this level for recovery castawa , hovering, and dip in the early stages of investigation contacts, in accordance with the Regulations in force/Squadrons Operative Departments . The NVG practical course consists of a representative training module that defines the process for the use of Night Vision Goggles and includes a session of written examination at the end of the theoretical phase passing of COURSE CURRICULUM which is a necessary condition to enter the practical stage. The practical phase consists of 5 flight missions including flight control. The course is divided into two phases, a total duration of approximately one working week . COURSE TITLE “MCM Diver” / EOD Basic Course COURSE LOCATION Comando Subacquei Incursori (COMSUBIN) Le Grazie (SP) Training for qualified divers to conduct, during mine warfare especially for COURSE OBJECTIVES tasks and to be able to use explosive technique. The course takes place over 109 calendar days (excluding periods of leave/vacation). It will be necessary to submit a record of qualifications and training completed from ones originating country. Records should include the following information: - Any and all Dive qualifications - Type of breathing apparatus previously used for dive training/operations - Any training held in the field of explosives; - Previous diving experience (certified copy of your records). In addition, foreign personnel will undergo an entrance exam which lasts 12 days, and gives a clear picture of proficiency level. COURSE TITLE Damage control course for MCMVs (Mine Countermeasures Vessels) COURSE LOCATION Mine Countermeasures Command, La Spezia.

COURSE OBJECTIVES Provides basic knowledge for evaluating and coordinating damage control events on board a MCMV(when at sea and in harbour). The course provides classroom-based instruction and incident investigation discussion and analysis. The program is divided into 3 phases: COURSE CURRICULUM - Fire-fighting and anti-flood techniques overview; - Incident investigation (discussion and evaluation based on real life events); - Final exam. COURSE DURATION The course has a duration of 2 working days. Starting date TBD. DARE (Decision Aid for Risk Evaluation) NATO Software Operator COURSE TITLE Course. COURSE LOCATION Mine Countermeasures Command, La Spezia. The course provides students with the basic knowledge of software DARE in COURSE OBJECTIVES order to be able to operate as part of a CMM staff, on board as well as ashore. The course provides classroom-based instruction on NATO publications AP series (Allied Publication) and practical use of DARE software. The preliminary program is divided into 3 phases: COURSE CURRICULUM - Introduction to the software and its capabilities and limitations; - Description of the folders and worksheets; - Practice. COURSE DURATION The course has a duration of 3 working days. COURSE TITLE VTS Supervisor COURSE LOCATION Specialized training center VTMIS di Messina Provide specialist level competencies for personnel to cover the figure of COURSE OBJECTIVES "VTS supervisor", in accordance with the IALA rules. The course will be held in Italian language and will consist of 6 training modules in accordance with the "model course” IALA V-103/2, with the following program: 1 traffic management; COURSE CURRICULUM 2 VTS devices; 3 personal characteristics; 4 emergency response; 5 administrative functions; 6 regulatory investigation . 15 days; COURSE DURATION from 29 February to 18 March 2016.
