YOBE STATE MINISTRY OF HEALTH Situation Report TITLE COVID-19 Pandemic Situation Report SERIAL NUMBER 20 EPID-WEEK 21 DATE 19 May 2020 HIGHLIGHTS: ñ No new confirmed case(s) reported today ñ Twenty-two (22) contacts of the newly confirmed cases have been identified and line-listed by the contact tracing teams in Damaturu, Gujba, and Nguru LGAs ñ Twenty-eight (28) new samples have been collected and transported to NCDC-accredited laboratory for testing ñ Five (5) new alerts have been received and investigated in Damaturu, Nguru, and Bade LGAs. EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SUMMARY: ñ The total number of confirmed COVID-19 case(s) is thirty-four (34): Sixteen (16) cases from Damaturu, eight (8) cases from Bade, seven (7) cases from Nguru, and one (1) case each from Geidam, Tarmuwa, and Gujba LGAs ñ Total confirmed case(s) of COVID-19 amongst Health Care Workers (HCWs) in the state is eleven (11): Seven (7) nurses, three (3) doctors, and one (1) laboratory scientist ñ The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the state is six (6) ñ Total number of case(s) who recovered and discharged from the isolation center in the state is six (6) ñ The total number of contacts who completed the 14-days follow-up without any symptoms as of today is one hundred and thirty-two (132) ñ Twenty-two (22) confirmed cases in the isolation center are in stable condition ñ The total number of samples taken for testing is ninety-one (91). Surveillance and Epidemiology: ñ Twenty-two (22) contacts of the newly confirmed cases have been identified and line-listed by the contact tracing teams in Damaturu, Gujba, and Nguru LGAs ñ Continued monitoring of two hundred and sixteen (216) contacts of confirmed cases ñ Five (5) new alerts have been received and investigated in Damaturu, Nguru, and Bade LGAs. Point of Entry (POE): ñ Continued monitoring of 58 quarantined Almajiris who were deported from Adamawa to Yobe state four days ago ñ Continued monitoring of 62 Almajiris who were deported from Nasarawa to Yobe state twelve days ago. Case Management: ñ No new admissions in the state isolation center ñ No new discharges from the isolation center today ñ Twenty-two (22) confirmed cases on admission in the state isolation centers are in stable condition. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC): ñ Conducted decontamination and fumigation of three (3) schools, four (4) health care facilities in Bade, Damaturu, and Potiskum LGAs, with support from Plan International 4 | Page ñ Provided additional technical support to LGA RRT and IPC teams to scale-up contact tracing and disinfection of confirmed or suspected households in Bade, Gujba, Tarmuwa, Geidam, Damaturu, and Nguru LGAs. Laboratory and Diagnostic Support: ñ Twenty-eight (28) samples collected today ñ The total number of samples taken for testing is ninety-one (91). Risk Communication and Social Mobilization: ñ Conducted sensitization on COVID-19 to eight thousand eight hundred and forty-four (8844) persons in the markets, motor parks and streets of Bade, Damaturu, and Potiskum LGAs, with support from Plan International ñ Distributed IEC material to eleven thousand one hundred and four thousand (11104) in Bade, Damaturu, and Potiskum LGAs, with support from Plan International ñ Continued public sensitization via radio jingles, motorized campaigns, and TV programs. Logistics and Operational Support: ñ Sorted and documented COVID-19 commodities donated by Future Assured project ñ Commenced distribution of commodities supplied by the government, Future Assured project, Victim Support Fund to major hospitals and clinics ñ Developed a distribution plan for handwashing units. CHALLENGES: ñ Inadequate PPEs and IPC commodities to sustain large scale response in the state ñ Passengers from other parts of the country still illegally sneaking into Yobe state ñ Insecurity and military operations affecting risk communication activities in remote communities of Geidam and Gujba LGA. NEXT STEP(S): • Scale-up risk communication activities in Nguru, Geidam and Gujba LGAs • Continue active case search, contact tracing, and monitoring of contacts of new cases • Strengthen enforcement of interstate border closure • Scale-up IPC measures in all COVID-19 isolation centers in the state • Follow-up with NCDC to retrieve pending sample results. 5 | Page .
