Jensen GT De Laatste Der Mohicanen
Alan and Richard Jensen Produced Their First Car in 1928 When They
Alan and Richard Jensen produced their first car in 1928 when they converted a five year old Austin 7 Chummy Saloon into a very stylish two seater with cycle guards, louvred bonnet and boat-tail. This was soon sold and replaced with another Austin 7. Then came a car produced on a Standard chassis followed by a series of specials based on the Wolseley Hornet, a popular sporting small car of the time. The early 1930s saw the brothers becoming joint managing directors of commercial coachbuilders W J Smith & Sons and within three years the name of the company was changed to Jensen Motors Limited. Soon bodywork conversions followed on readily available chassis from Morris, Singer, Standard and Wolseley. Jensen’s work did not go unnoticed as they received a commission from actor Clark Gable to produced a car on a US Ford V8 chassis. This stylish car led to an arrangement with Edsel Ford for the production of a range of sports cars using a Jensen designed chassis and powered by Ford V8 engines equipped with three speed Ford transmissions. Next came a series of sporting cars powered by the twin-ignition straight eight Nash engine or the Lincoln V12 unit. On the commercial side of the business Jensen’s were the leaders in the field of the design and construction of high-strength light alloys in commercial vehicles and produced a range of alloy bodied trucks and busses powered by either four-cylinder Ford engines, Ford V8s, or Perkins diesels. World War Two saw sports car production put aside and attentions were turned to more appropriate activities such as producing revolving tank gun turrets, explosives and converting the Sherman Tank for amphibious use in the D-Day invasion of Europe. -

1976 Jensen GT Classic Rally Car PRICE £30,000
1976 Jensen GT Classic Rally Car PRICE £30,000 ABOUT THIS CAR IDEAL FOR USE ON: Three Castles Trial, Rally of the Tests, Le Jog, Scottish Malts, Classic Marathon, Carrera Atlantica, New Zealand Classic Rally. Preparation Services is pleased to offer this very rare and truly very special 1976 Jensen GT classic rally car. With only 54 believed to be left in the UK, it is doubtful that you will find a better example or one more worth demanding a higher price and for good reason. The car has been with the current owners since 2005 and enjoyed numerous class / category wins and an outright win on the Three Castles Rally 2016. The Jensen GT is an estate or sports-back derivative of the more plentiful Jensen Healey roadster manufactured by the often troubled Jensen Motors in conjunction with Donald Healey and Kjell Qvale. Norwegian / American Qvale imported British cars into the U.S. and when BMC halted production of the big Healey 3000 a replacement was required. Jensen had made the big Healey bodies so it sounds like a match made in heaven. In common with many a great sports cars, parts were sourced from a myriad of suppliers; Colin Chapman’s Lotus provided the fantastic 16 valve alloy 907 engine reputedly the first mass produced modern 16v twin cam, the gear box was initially a somewhat less glamorous Rootes item later replaced with a superior 5-speed Getrag unit while the axle can also be found in the back of a Firenza. The Jensen Healey went on to be Jensen’s best seller and great things were expected of the GT when it was launched in 1975. -

As well as keeping the Exchequer happy with increased tax receipts from all our petrol purchases, it also allows the public to see the cars in action, as well as hear them.
