Dear members, THE Club’s financial year closed on 31 March 2010. Despite the economic and financial uncertainty in the first half of 2009, the Club performed very well. There was an increase in the number of members supporting the various social and sporting activities organized by the Club. The participation rate for STAR Games saw a 4.7% increase over that of FY 08/09. These are very encouraging indicators that members are keen to participate in the activities organised by the Club and are enjoying them. This will motivate the management to strive harder to enhance our services and upgrade the Club’s facilities to meet the members’ needs. For FY 10/11, the Club will improve the existing facilities and explore new initiatives to provide better facilities for our members. The Club will venture into new destinations when organising short tours for our members. More family based activities will also be organized to enable family bonding. Activities that have proven to be popular with our members will continue to be organised and improved upon. A Fruit Machine management system has been introduced in April 2010 that will speed up the payment of credits as well as implementing a loyalty program to the players. A daily and monthly mystery bonus payout from the cashcade is in place to increase the chances of winning for the players. However, we urge the members to exercise restraint and prudence when enjoying these fruit machines.

The Club will also be improving on its connectivity and accessibility. Cable television will be installed in all the Clubhouses, so that members can enjoy viewing more channels. All the premises will be WIFI enabled. The website will WIFI be revamped to make it more user friendly, interactive and appealing.

Over the next 2 months, the Club has planned a variety of activities and events to meet the varying needs of members. Activities that will be organised include Mother’s Day Special, Family Day, Children’s Camp, enrichment classes for children, cooking classes for adults, family based activities and the ever popular local and overseas tours. MOTHERS DAY Do check them out either in the Fusion magazine, the Club’s website or on the recently installed LCDs at any of the Clubhouses.

9th June 2010 is a significant date for our Club. It marks the 20th Anniversary of the official opening of Tessensohn Clubhouse which was officially opened by our then President of Singapore, Mr Wee Kim Wee. To commemorate this significant occasion, Tessensohn Clubhouse will be organising a special dinner at Qian Xi Restaurant on 9 June 2010 at 7:30pm. More than 50% discount will be given to all the members who have been members of the Club for 20 years or more, when they attend this dinner. To show the Club’s appreciation of their unfailing and loyal support to the Club, a welcome gift will also be given to them. Members whose memberships have been 20 years and more will be invited by the Club to attend this dinner. Between 7 and 13 of June 2010, Club members who use the Club facilities and dine at Qian Xi, Tessensohn can enjoy special promotions and discounts. An all night jackpot, bowling and karaoke marathon will be organized from 12 Jun 10 midnight to the morning of 13 Jun 10. There will be lucky draws and surprise prizes to be won. A special Tombola Nite with a Super Jackpot prize of $10,000 will be organised at Tessensohn Ballroom on 17 June 2010 from 7.30 to 10 pm. CSC will be ramping up its promotion of healthy lifestyle activities amongst our members. Changi Clubhouse will serve as the main centre for such activities. For a start, enthusiastic members have formed 2 interest groups on running and cycling to promote these activities. Each interest group will form its own committee. Activities will be organized which will include lectures on sport medicine, health, physical conditioning and topics related to the respective sporting activity. Entry level training for beginners will also be organized. When we have built up a good base of members, we can form partnerships with related merchants to obtain discounts for goods and services. The running club organises runs every month on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays whilst the cycling club meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. For more details, interested members can either visit our website, e-mail [email protected] or call Leroy at 63915608. As always, feedback from members is integral to the Club’s improvement. Feedback Boxes have been placed at each of the Clubhouse’s main reception counter where members can submit their feedback. In this way, members can share their views on the services and facilities provided by FEEDBACK BOX the Club. We are also appointing a management consulting company to conduct a survey among our members. The aim is to obtain feedback from a cross-section of members on their satisfaction level with the services and facilities provided by the Club. We hope the survey results will suggest areas of improvement that the Club can focus on so that their needs can be met. We plan to conduct the survey in mid- 2010. Your participation in this survey will greatly facilitate the Club to understand and address members’ needs better. We wish you a pleasant time at the Club and I wish all parents a Happy Mother’s and Father’s Day!

The Sports Section, headed by Goh Tua Soon, is responsible for planning and organising a total of 34 games annually for public officers. As physical exercises contribute to good health and fitness, the team has started adding new initiatives to their schedule. Based at the Changi Clubhouse, they have organised cycling trips, running events, fishing and other sporting events exclusively for club members. Club members will have the opportunity to share and interact with other members who enjoy the same sporting hobbies, compete among themselves in friendly events such as running, cycling and perhaps even to compete for the Club’s honours. Goh Tua Soon Heading the Social and Finance team is Angie Lim. Social activities are always fun and enjoyable, and have proven popular with members. The Social team is responsible for organising an ever-increasing number of social activities. Currently, an average of 60 successful activities are carried out each month. To improve the success rate and as well as helping staff achieve higher productivity, the Section will reposition itself to work on activities that have a greater potential to succeed. Their emphasis now will be more on quality and value, ensuring that selected activities have almost certain success.

Angie Lim Due to the nature of its work, the Finance Section in every organisation has a low profile. The Club’s Finance Section is no exception. Members hardly have interaction opportunities with the section staff. However, in the backroom, the importance of the section cannot be underestimated. It ensures that the books are properly kept and balanced and looks at means of how to best use the financial resources for the benefit of the Club and its members.

In the Development & Maintenance Section are Kenneth Ong and his team of three technicians, who look after new developments and tackle technical and maintenance matters in all the three clubhouses. Major projects on his plate are the A&A works at Tessensohn Clubhouse and the upcoming developments works in Changi Clubhouse. Similar to finance work, his area of responsibilities does not require him to have much interaction with members.

Kenneth Ong

A one-man team, Information Technology is another section that does not have much contact with club members. The Section’s major work is in maintaining the IT systems and computer hardware of the Club. Abdul Latiff, the IT Manager is now driving a new club management system, which will be implemented in phases from 1 April 2010. With this enhanced and integrated system, the Club would be better able to bring its services and backend controls to the next level. Latiff is also looking at enhancing the current free wiring surfing service at the three clubhouses. Soon, coverage will be such that at every corner in the Club, members will be able to log on the internet with their laptops.

6 CLUB NEWS

Next to the Social Section, the Marketing and Membership Section is probably the team which members have most interaction with. In stepping up efforts to encourage more public officers to join as club members, the Club is offering a two-year free membership to new public officers joining the service from 1 Jan 2010. The team is also liaising with government departments to organise road shows at their premises. To add value to your membership, on the drawing board are initiatives such as Members’ Nights to help members network to improve work and social interactions. Other new initiatives will involve getting members who have special skills or hobbies to share their interests and knowledge with fellow members. The section is headed by Peter Peter Chew Chew who has just come on board. Yet another section that works behind-the-scenes is the administration and HR Section. Led by Michael Wong, the section plays the essential role of staff recruitment and day-to-day administration support to the corporate office as well as the clubhouses.
