Soil and litter samples were taken from characteristic microhabitats (dry grassland, dry bushland, rocky steppe). A total of 150 oribatid species belonging to 47 families were encountered, most of them closely associated with dry habitats. Gymnodamaeus irregularis Bayar- togtokh & Schatz, 2009 and Liochthonius perelegans Moritz, 1976 are new records for Italy, additional six species are new records for South Tyrol. Two species (Licneremaeus sp., Pseudoppia sp.) could not be identified at species level, possibly they are unde- scribed species. Remarkable species are presented, and their general distribution and habitat requirements pointed out. The possible origin of the oribatid mite species in dry grasslands is discussed, as inferred from the high proportion of ‘mediterranean species’ with distribution centre in South or Southeast Europe. Rhine], is short arid for purposes of practical convenience scarcely requires subdivision, but the distinction between the Aar basin (actually Reuss, and Limmat) and that of the Rhine itself, is of too great significance to be overlooked, to say nothing of the magnitude and importance of the Major Branch System involved. This gives two Basic Sections of very unequal dimensions, but the ., Alps being of natural origin cannot be expected to fall into more or less equal com partments. Institut für Mineralogie und Petrographie, Universität Innsbruck, Innrain 52f, A-6020 Innsbruck Zusammenfassung Die Bergbaureviere des Pfunderer Bergs befinden sich westlich von Klausen oberhalb des Thinnetales in den Sarntaler Alpen. Geologisch zählt die Region zum südalpinen Basement und wird zum überwie- genden Teil aus Brixner Quarzphyllit aufgebaut. Für die Metallogenese im Raum Klausen sind jedoch vor allem die zahlreichen kleineren intermediären Intrusionen, zumeist Diorite (Klausenite), interessant. Diese permischen Magmatite treten als kleinräumige gang- und lagerförmige Körper im Brixner Quarz- phyllit auf. Die Vererzungen werden in direktem Zusammenhang mit der Platznahme und der Abkühlung dieser Intrusionen gebracht. Metallogenetisch handelt es sich hierbei sicherlich um postmagmatische Bildungen in Zusammenhang mit zirkulierenden Wässern um die noch heiße Intrusion. Hydrothermale Alterationserscheinungen sowie Erzimpregnationen im Diorit weisen jedoch auch auf höhertemperierte, spätmagmatische Bildungen ähnlich den porphyrischen Kupferlagerstätten hin. Historisch gesehen geht die erste urkundliche Erwähnung der historischen Gruben des Pfunderer Bergs zwar in das Jahr 1140 zurück, aber der Nachweis von prähistorischer Kupfermetallurgie im Eisacktal in den letzten Jahren legt nahe, dass diese Lagerstätte schon in der

POPULATION This report examines the socio-economic structure of the Vinschgau district. In order to highlight the special features of this region even better, a comparison with the neighbouring district of Burggrafenamt and South Tyrol as a whole will be carried out. The district Vinschgau consists of 13 municipalities and is located in the west of South Tyrol on the border to Austria and Switzerland. With 35,500 inhabitants and an area of 1,442 km², it is one of the least densely populated areas in South Tyrol. Due to its central location and around 6,000 inhabitants, Schlanders is the capital of the Vinschgau district. The Burggrafenamt, on the other hand, has a much larger population of around 101,600 inhabitants, 40 percent of which are living in Merano, the district's capital. The 26 municipalities of this district cover an area of 1,101 km². Figure 1.1 Location of the districts Vinschgau and Burggrafenamt Source: WIFO © 2018 WIFO Until the reopening of the Vinschgau railway in 2005, the district of Vinschgau was only poorly integrated into South Tyrol's public transport network. The accessibility of the valley by road has also always been difficult, as it is remote from the main traffic axis (Brenner motorway) and the main road is regularly congested.
