Why We Do the Things We Do at Ninety Acres
WHY WE DO THE THINGS WE DO AT NINETY ACRES We believe in using Biodynamic, Organic and Sustainable ingredients and wines whenever possible. We believe it's not only important to support local agriculture, but that food and wine produced in this way can lend tastes and textures that make the dining experience incredibly unique. Sustainable agriculture refers to the ability of a farm to produce food indefinitely, without causing irreversible damage to ecosystem health. Two key issues are biophysical (the long-term effects of various practices on soil properties and processes essential for crop productivity) and socio-economic (the long-term ability of farmers to obtain inputs and manage resources such as labor). Organic farming is a form of agriculture which avoids or largely excludes the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, plant growth regulators, and livestock feed additives. As far as possible, organic farmers rely on crop rotation, crop residues, animal manures and mechanical cultivation to maintain soil productivity and tilth to supply plant nutrients, and to control weeds, insects and other pests. Biodynamic agriculture, or biodynamics is an organic farming system (but predates the term). It is based on the anthroposophical teachings of Rudolf Steiner, particularly on the eight lectures given by him in 1924 at Schloss Koberwitz in what was then Silesia, Germany nowadays Poland (close to Wrocław). At the time Steiner believed that the introduction of chemical farming was a major problem. Steiner was convinced that the quality of food in his time was degraded, and he believed the source of the problem were artificial fertilizers and pesticides. -
Vestini Campagnano
VESTINI CAMPAGNANO KAJANERO 2015 IGT TERRE DEL VOLTURNO ____________________________________________________________ In the region between Castel Campagnano and the Conca della Campania, an area where great wines have been made since Roman times, the Barletta family has developed their passion for historical grape varieties. Being the first winery to develop research on the almost extinct Pallagrello, red and white, and Casavecchia clones, make theirs the most unique project from the Campania region. The Vestini Campagnano project began in 1990 with garage style research and only a few vines growing in the backyard. Stimulated by the idea that Pallagrello once belonged to the noblest varieties of Europe and held in high esteem by the Bourbon kings, enabled the estate to enlist Luigi Moio as their scientific support. By 2000, Vestini Campagnano had planted vineyards based on the original viticultural material discovered here and was producing 6,000 liters of wine divided between Pallagrello Bianco and Pallagrello Nero, and Casavecchia, all Terre al Volturno IGT. Today owner Alberto Barletta has been joined by his sons, Amedeo & Luigi, as managers of this unique estate, and with the additional of enologist Paolo Caciorgna, who lends the finishing touches and great elegance to the beautiful wines made here! Varietal composition: 40% Pallagrello Nero, 10% Pizzutella 30% Casavecchia, 20% Aglianico Appellation: IGT Terre del Volturno Production Area: Caiazzo Vineyard: Vestini Campagnano Clones: 420A Vineyard practices: Organic Plot characteristics: -
Terre Del Principe
TERRE DEL PRINCIPE 1 THIS IS US The love for the vine. The dream shared with Manuela. The memory of the grandfather who carried him, child, around his estate on the gig through. The memory of the peasants who spoke about Pallagrello and Casavecchia. They are the reasons that have induced Peppe Mancini to abandon the lawyer profession in order to become vine-dresser. The same love and the same passion push Manuela Piancastelli, journalist and scrittrice, to leave Il Mattino in order to write, with Peppe, an important page of the Campanian viticulture. The Pallagrello and the Casavecchia must all to Peppe Mancini. If today they are newly cultivates, it must to the tenacity and to the conviction of who has believed in the potentialities of these native grape variety and of this territory, a lot appreciates from the Borbone. Along study with the University of Naples and the Campania Region have finally concurred the insertion of Pallagrello Bianco, Pallagrello Nero and Casavecchia in the national Catalogue of the grapes variety. Pushes from a big passion, Peppe and Manuela, which in the time has joined to Masina Mancini, have given life to their dreams: Terre del Principe. A name that is born like dedication of Manuela to Peppe, her prince. Today the company has 11 hectares of property. 2 WHERE WE ARE THE VINEYARD UNDER TABURNO MOUNT Terre del Principe is born in Campania, between sweet hills of Squille, small village in the town of Castel Campagnano, in province of Caserta . The territory is a ring of conjunction between the mountain range of Taburno and Matese, that donate wealth to the ground, much to more make of one of the zones with vocation to cultivation of vine and olive tree. -
