EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY-GENERAL

CABINET DU SECRETAIRE GENERAL

12 January 1998 REFERENCE: Dear Mr. janitschek,

On behalf of the Secretary-General, I am writing in reply to your letter of 16 December 1997 (received on 2 January).

The Secretary-General is grateful for your offer of services as a speech-writer. Indeed, we are in the final stages of our search for someone to head the speechwriting unit. However, the Secretary-General is seeking an individual to serve as a staff member, which would disqualify anyone who has retired from service with the Organization.

He does appreciate your interest, however, and your offer will be kept in mind should our needs change.

With my best wishes,/^
