    1 BAB I PENDAHULUAN A. Dasar Pemikiran Bangsa Indonesia sejak dahulu sudah dikenal sebagai bangsa pelaut yang menguasai jalur-jalur perdagangan. Sebagai bangsa pelaut maka pengetahuan kita akan teknologi perkapalan Nusantara pun seharusnya kita ketahui. Catatan-catatan sejarah serta bukti-bukti tentang teknologi perkapalan Nusantara pada masa klasik memang sangatlah minim. Perkapalan Nusantara pada masa klasik, khususnya pada masa kerajaan Hindu-Buddha tidak meninggalkan bukti lukisan-lukisan bentuk kapalnya, berbeda dengan bangsa Eropa seperti Yunani dan Romawi yang bentuk kapal-kapal mereka banyak terdapat didalam lukisan yang menghiasi benda porselen. Penemuan bangkai-bangkai kapal yang berasal dari abad ini pun tidak bisa menggambarkan lebih lanjut bagaimana bentuk aslinya dikarenakan tidak ditemukan secara utuh, hanya sisa-sisanya saja. Sejak kedatangan bangsa Eropa ke Nusantara pada abad ke 16, bukti-bukti mengenai perkapalan yang dibuat dan digunakan di Nusantara mulai terbuka. Catatan-catatan para pelaut Eropa mengenai pertemuan mereka dengan kapal- kapal Nusantara, serta berbagai lukisan-lukisan kota-kota pelabuhan di Nusantara yang juga dibuat oleh orang-orang Eropa. Sejak abad ke-17, di Eropa berkembang seni lukis naturalistis, yang coba mereproduksi keadaan sesuatu obyek dengan senyata mungkin; gambar dan lukisan yang dihasilkannya membahas juga pemandangan-pemandangan kota, benteng, pelabuhan, bahkan pemandangan alam 2 di Asia, di mana di sana-sini terdapat pula gambar perahu-perahu Nusantara.1 Catatan-catatan Eropa ini pun memuat nama-nama dari kapal-kapal Nusantara ini, yang ternyata sebagian masih ada hingga sekarang. Dengan menggunakan cacatan-catatan serta lukisan-lukisan bangsa Eropa, dan membandingkan bentuk kapalnya dengan bukti-bukti kapal yang masih digunakan hingga sekarang, maka kita pun bisa memunculkan kembali bentuk- bentuk kapal Nusantara yang digunakan pada abad-abad 16 hingga 18.

    Sea Gypsies and Pinisi of the Laut Java By Geoffrey Walker A modern Day motorized Dhow derivative, sometimes called a Pinisi. There can be nothing more serene than to sight the lazy sails of a Dhow or Pinisi flapping on the horizon, continually seeking the wind, as it slowly forges its way across the Java Sea from Surabaya or Semarang bound for Makassar or Bali. Although now mostly fitted with auxiliary engines these historical sailing craft still use the wind for the bulk of their sea passage. These craft ooze charm and are very practical craft as they encompass a wide spectrum of sailing vessels from coastal fishing boats to ocean going cargo carriers and passenger ferries. They bear a very close resemblance to Arab Dhows that trade around the Middle East, East Coast of Africa and across the Indian Ocean. A sight which I am sure fellow mariners of my vintage well recall. The Pinisi, has its origins in Indonesia. Being mainly built in Makassar located in the Sulawesi Group of Islands in the eastern provinces of Indonesia and is still used widely mostly for inter- island transportation, cargo or fishing purposes within the Indonesian archipelago. The fist Pinisi ships are said to have been derived from the Dutch “Pinas” introduced into Indonesia around the 1600s Originally these would likely have been fitted with lateen or other similar types of sail because the modern schooner rig was not widely used before the 19th century. As with other sailing ship types, many have been fitted with marine motors which has caused a slight change in the appearance of these ships, because up until the 1970s most of these craft were totally reliant on wind power.

Perang yang di maksudkan adalah satu pertempuran ataupun dalam erti kata lain merupakan perjuangan (jihad). Kenyataan ini turut di perakui oleh Sun Tzu dalam karyanya yang menyatakan bahawa peperangan itu adalah urusan negara yang penting untuk menentukan kelangsungan hidup atau kemusnahan sesebuah negara, maka setiap jenis peperangan itu perlu diselidiki terlebih dahulu matlamatnya.1 Di samping itu, perang juga sering dianggap oleh sekalian manusia bahawa ia merupakan satu perbalahan yang melibatkan penggunaan senjata sehingga mampu mengancam nyawa antara sesama umat manusia.2 Ini menunjukkan bahawa penggunaan senjata merupakan elemen penting dalam sebuah peperangan. Perang merupakan salah satu daripada kegiatan manusia kerana ia meliputi pelbagai sudut kehidupan. This study aims to inventory and reconstruct categories and characteristics (linguistic features) of myths of Bugis and Makassar through qualitative research. The myths in the oral forms were gathered from informants through in-depth interviews accompanied by recording and field notes. Data were analyzed using domain analysis, taxonomic, component, and cultural theme based on Bascom's theory (1965a). The results indicate that the Bugis myths have three categories: cosmogonic, origin, and faunal, while four categories of the Makassar myths: cosmogonic, origin, faunal, and dynasty. The characteristics of Bugis and Makassar myths tend to exhibit great similarities, either due to the influence of monogenesis or polygenesis. The fundamental difference between the Bugis and Makassar myths lies in the cosmogonic about rice, faunal about crocodiles, and human endogenic about Tu Manurung. This difference is based on the views of the Bugis and Makassar people on the origin of rice, gender, marriage, geography, and kingdom or partners area. ARTICLE INFO ABSTRACT Received: 6 February 2020 This article aims to describe Nusantara shipping technology from 16 to 18th century Revised: 22 June 2020 AD, which consisted of the types of ships, manufacturing techniques and characteristics possessed by the ships of the Nusantara.
