Poletno terminološko šolo, ki je potekala v obliki predavanj in delavnic, so pripravili Inštitut za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša ZRC SAZU, zlasti njegova Sekcija za terminološke slovarje, Oddelek za prevajalstvo Filozofske fakultete Univerze v Ljubljani, The European Association for Terminology (EAFT) s sedežem v Bruslju in International Network for Terminology (TermNet) s sedežem na Dunaju. Svoje poglede na terminologijo so predstavili vrhunski slovenski raziskoval- ci terminologije in terminologi iz Danske, Avstrije, Nizozemske, Irske in Hrvaške. Monografijo smo razdelili na štiri dele: Terminologija – nekaj evropskih izkušenj, Termi- nologija in jezikovni procesi, Terminologija posameznih strok in terminografija in Termino- logija, korpusi in jezikovne tehnologije. Angleščina postaja lingua franca evropske znanosti in izpodriva terminologijo v narodnih jezikih. V drugem delu so objavljeni slovenski in hrvaški prispevki o razvoju strokovnega izraz- ja, terminološki sinonimiji, normiranju, tvorbi, terminologizaciji in determinologizaciji ter prevzemanju terminov. K temu bo prispevala prav terminologija. Although Volume 1A was printed in September 1982, in this second edition no changes were made to the original text, since it described spacecraft and experiments as they actually were durin~qthe acquisition of the data in Volume 1B‘. The only significantarevisionmade in the second edition was the addition of Appendix E, which is an index showing the pages in Volume 1A where one can find descriptions of the spacecraft and experiments corresponding to the data sets described in Volume 1B.

• Map 86 Paphlagonia Compiled by C
Map 86 Paphlagonia Compiled by C. Foss, 1995 Introduction The map comprises ancient Paphlagonia, and extends into eastern Bithynia and the northernmost part of Galatia. Evidence for the ancient topography is most abundant on the coast, along the Roman roads, and in Galatia. Arrian’s Periplus Ponti Euxini (written c. A.D. 132), together with an earlier text by Menippus (c. 20 B.C.) and a related Late Antique anonymous work, describe the coast in great detail. Most of the sites named in these works can be located at least approximately, although a few resist identification; Müller’s commentary in GGM I remains valuable. For the Roman roads, ItMiller is uncritical; French (1981) is far more useful, but treats only one major road. The roads of Paphlagonia are presented in admirable detail by TIB Paphlagonien, those of northern Galatia likewise by TIB Galatien. The interior of Paphlagonia is a remote, mountainous country, cut off from the regions to the south by long, parallel ranges. Communication east and west is relatively easy; north and south, it is much more difficult. The country contains a few long, wide plains and river valleys, some of considerable fertility. In antiquity, the mountains were heavily forested. For the most part, the region was never densely populated. For a general description, see Leonhard (1915); and for an excellent account of some areas (including eastern Bithynia), with discussion of specific problems, note Robert (1980). RE Paphlagonia gives a full list of all named sites (cols. 2537-50) and of physical remains (2498-2510, 2515). Some features listed there do not appear on the map because of limited significance or uncertainty of dating.

More than 14 countries were represent- ed at the meeting of the UWC, the leading diaspora organization, which is led by pres- ident Askold Lozynskyj of New York City. The annual meeting offered an oppor- tunity for leaders in the new diaspora communities to get advice from leaders in the established communities, said Michael Sawkiw Jr., president of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA). “They’re trying to open up Saturday schools, and some governments are try- ing to help, while others aren’t necessari- ly cooperative,” he said. “They’re trying to preserve culture and language. That’s where we were as a Ukrainian American community 50 to 75 years ago.” Upon returning to Kyiv, a UWC dele- gation met with Foreign Affairs Minister Borys Tarasyuk and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn.
