Zu ihnen gehören beliebte Zwiebelpflanzen wie Traubenhyazinthe (Muscari), Blaustern (Scilla) oder Hasenglöckchen (Hyacinthoides). Es handelt sich um Zierpflanzen, die in Norddeutschland ursprünglich nicht heimisch sind, aber vielfach schon seit mehr als 100 Jahren bei uns verwildern und teilweise als fest eingebürgerte Neophyten gelten müssen. Um die Bestimmung der in den deutschen Floren meist nur unvollständig behandelten Hyacinthaceae zu erleichtern, werden Bestimmungsschlüssel für die in Norddeutschland vorkommenden oder zu erwartenden 8 Gattun- gen, 34 Arten und deren Hybriden gegeben und Angaben über ihre Verbreitung gemacht. Einleitung Bei jeder Kartierung spielt das Bemühen eine große Rolle, auch kritische und bisher wenig beachtete Sippen zu erfassen. Zu letzteren zählen die verwilderten Gartenpflanzen, unter ihnen die Hyazinthengewächse, zu denen die Milchsterne (Ornithogalum), die Hasenglöckchen (Hyacinthoides), die Blausterne (Scilla), die Schneestolz-Arten (Chionodoxa), die Hyazinthen (Hyacinthus), die Wildhyazinthen (Brimeura), die Puschkinia-Arten (Puschkinia) und die Traubenhyazinthen (Mus- cari) gehören. Die Hyacinthengewächse hatten früher ihren Platz in den weit gefaßten Liliaceae, die aber heute in mehrere, besser abgrenzbare Familien aufgeteilt werden. Allerdings: Viele der hierher gehörenden Arten (z.B. aus der Gattung Chionodoxa) werden in den deutschen Bestimmungsfloren gar nicht behandelt, was letztlich das geringe Interesse an verwilderten Gartenpflanzen widerspiegelt. Vollends unübersichtlich kann es werden, wenn man den im Gartenpflanzenhandel gebräuchlichen Namen vertraut: Für Chionodoxa spec. stellen PHILIPPS & RIX (1983: 41) sogar fest, daß „die meisten im Handel befindlichen Sorten ... falsche Bezeichnungen“ tragen. Um überhaupt einen Überblick über die verwilderten Hyazinthengewächse zu erlangen, muß man schon auf die Literatur des Auslandes ausweichen, also beispielsweise auf die britische Flora von STACE (1991), die niederländischen Floren von VAN DER MEIJDEN (1990) und MENNEMA (1994), die Flora von Österreich von ADLER et al. (1994) sowie natürlich die „Flora Europaea“ (TUTIN et al. 1980). Ein unentbehrliches Nachschlagewerk ist zudem die „European Garden Flora“ (WALTERS et al. 1986). Wesentliche Fortschritte bei der Taxonomie der Hyazinthengewächse hat es in den letzten Jahrzehnten u.a. durch die 54 Forschungen von F. SPETA aus Linz und L.W.D. VAN RAAMSDONK aus den Niederlanden gegeben. In letzter Zeit scheint das Interesse an verwilderten Gartenpflanzen zuzunehmen. Aufschlußreich ist ein Vergleich der vorläufigen Standardliste der Blütenpflanzen Deutschlands (WISSKIRCHEN 1993) mit der jetzt vorliegenden Endfassung (WISSKIRCHEN & HAEUPLER 1998): Während in der alten Liste die Chionodoxa - Arten ebenso wie Ornithogalum pyramidale noch fehlten, Ornithogalum umbella- tum noch nicht differenziert wurde und auch Hinweise auf Hyacinthoides hispanica und die Bastardierung mit Hyacinthoides non-scripta fehlten, ist alles dies in der neuen Liste berücksichtigt. Damit umfaßt die neue Standardliste alle wichtigen ver- wilderten Hyazinthengewächse. Erfreulich ist auch, daß den Stinzenpflanzen im neuen Standardwerk „Historische Gärten in Schleswig-Holstein“ besonderer Raum gegeben wird (POPPENDIECK 1996 a,b,c). Die Bestimmungsschlüssel dieses Artikels wurden aus Angaben bewährter, anerkannter Literatur entwickelt, doch es steht zu erwarten, daß sie verbesserungsfähig sind, vielleicht auch nicht frei von Fehlern. Als Verfasser dieses Artikels war ich zunächst kein intimer Kenner dieser Pflanzengruppe. Ich habe deshalb Hilfe von vielen Seiten in Anspruch genommen. Mein ganz besonderer Dank geht an Herrn Dr. Poppendieck (Hamburg), der mit seinem Vortrag über "Stinzenpflanzen" in der Jahreshauptversammlung der AG Geobotanik in Schleswig-Holstein und Hamburg 1994 einen wichtigen Anstoß für diesen Aufsatz gab und viele Fundortangaben aus Hamburg beigesteuert hat. Die Herren Dr. Adolphi (Rossbach / Wied) , Mang† (Hamburg), Dr. Nothdurft (Bad Säckingen) und Dr. Speta (Linz) lasen Vorgängerversionen des Manuskripts und gaben Anregungen und Kritik. Von Herrn Dr. Ringenberg (Hamburg) bekam ich Hinweise zu Scilla amoena, mit Herrn Dr. Bergmeier (damals Kopenhagen) führte ich einen Briefwechsel zu Statusfragen verwilderter Gartenpflanzen. Herr Prof. Dierssen (Kiel) ermöglichte die Einsichtnahme in die Fundortkartei der Universität Kiel und die Ausleihe von Herbarbögen des dortigen Herbars. Ihnen allen danke ich herzlich. Geschichte der Einführung und Verwilderung der Hyazinthengewächse in Norddeutschland, insbesondere in Schleswig-Holstein Die Hyazinthengewächse sind allesamt in Norddeutschland nicht urwüchsig, werden aber vielfach schon seit Jahrhunderten in den Gärten kultiviert. Einige kamen als Ackerunkräuter vor und haben sich wohl auch auf diesem Wege verbreitet. Meldun- gen von Hyazinthengewächsen als Ackerunkräutern in Nordeutschland stammen fast alle aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Es wäre interessant, ob es auch heute noch derartige Funde gibt. Die Kultur der Hyazinthengewächse hat sich in Deutschland offensicht- lich immer auf den dekorativen Aspekt beschränkt. Im Mittelmeerraum baute man dagegen Ornithogalum umbellatum agg., Ornithogalum nutans agg. und Muscari comosum als Gemüse an und verzehrte die Zwiebeln. Das Mehl von getrockneten 55 Milchstern-Zwiebeln bildet für moslemische Pilger sogar noch heute einen Teil der ihnen vorgeschriebenen Nahrung auf der Reise nach Mekka (WHITTLE & COOK 1979: 16, 46). Nachdem man in Mitteleuropa im Mittelalter neben Arznei- und Gemüsepflanzen und Obstbäumen auch schon einige Zierpflanzen gezogen hatte, entstanden die eigentlichen Blumengärten unter Einbeziehung bunter und großblumiger Zwiebelgewächse erst nach dem Fall von Konstantinopel im Jahre 1453. Die Türken waren große Blumenfreunde und machten in den Gärten Istanbuls die schönsten Blumen und Blütensträucher heimisch. Als dann friedliche Beziehungen zum Abendland entstanden, verbreiteten sich insbesondere die Zwiebelgewächse durch einen schwunghaften Handel nach Europa (SCHULMEYER-TORRES 1994: 30). In diesem Zusammenhang ist die „Tulpomanie“ besonders bekanntgeworden, bei der in den Niederlanden zwischen 1632 und 1640 gigantische Preise für einzelne Tulpenzwiebeln bezahlt wurden (SCHULMEYER-TORRES l.c.). Durch den Import aus der Türkei und auch durch Nutzung mediterraner und westeuropäischer Wildpflanzen wurden im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert die folgenden Hyazinthengewächse in Mitteleuropa in Gartenkultur genommen: Muscari botryoides, Ornithogalum umbellatum agg., Onithogalum nutans agg., Scilla amoena, Scilla bifolia, Hyacinthoides non-scripta, Hyacinthoides hispanica, Hyacinthus orientalis. Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts gelangten Chionodoxa spec. und Scilla siberica nach Mit- teleuropa, fanden aber erst zu Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts verstärkt Eingang in die Gärten Norddeutschlands. Zu dieser Zeit wurde auch Muscari armeniacum eingeführt und verdrängte zunehmend die bis dahin vorherrschende Muscari botryoi- des (vgl. POPPENDIECK, 1996c). Vor etwa 100 Jahren wurden folgende Hyazinthengewächse aus den Gärten Schles- wig-Holsteins bzw. Norddeutschlands beschrieben (nach LABAN 1867, FISCHER- BENZON 1891, ESCHENBURG & FISCHER-BENZON 1893, PRAHL 1890, 1900): Ornithogalum nutans agg., Ornithogalum umbellatum agg., Ornithogalum narbonense , Ornithogalum pyrenaicum , Muscari botryoides, Muscari comosum, Muscari moschatum, Muscari neglectum (als Muscari racemosum (L.)MEDICUS), Hyacinthus orientalis, Brimeura amethystina (als Hyacinthus amethystinus L.), Hyacinthoides non-scripta (als Endymion non-scriptus GARCKE), Hyacinthoides hispanica (als Scilla campanulata AITON) , Scilla amoena, Scilla peruviana, Scilla bifolia, Scilla siberica (letztere beide nur bei LABAN 1867 genannt). Bis auf wenige Ausnahmen waren diese Arten bereits in der Pflanzenliste des Pastorengartens in Friedrichstadt vom Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts enthalten (FISCHER-BENZON 1893). FISCHER-BENZONS „Altdeutsche Gartenflora“ (1894) erwähnt zudem die Meer- 56 zwiebel Scilla maritima (heute Urginea maritima). Sie ist aber nicht winterhart und kam deshalb "hier im Norden kaum noch als Topfpflanze vor" (FISCHER-BENZON 1894: 81). Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurden als verwildert in Schleswig-Holstein angegeben: Ornithogalum nutans agg., Ornithogalum umbellatum agg., Muscari botryoides, Muscari neglectum, Hyacinthoides non-scripta, Scilla amoena (HENNINGS 1876, 1881; KNUTH 1888, OHL 1889, PRAHL 1890, 1900) . Danach muß man wohl davon ausgehen, daß die heute in Gärten so häufigen Chionodoxa-Arten, Puschkinia scilloides, Scilla siberica und Muscari armeniacum erst nach 1900 in größerem Maßstab angepflanzt wurden und dann auch verwilderten. Sie haben sich seitdem erstaunlich gut etabliert und verwildern z.T. in Parks und in der Nachbarschaft von Gärten. Umgekehrt sind manche der ehedem beliebten Gartenpflanzen ganz oder weitgehend aus der Kultur verschwunden, nämlich Ornithogalum umbellatum

The paper shows the results of floristic investigations of 12 islands and several skerries of the inner part of SW Finnish archipelago, situated within a square of 11.56 km2. The research comprised all vascular plants – growing spontaneously and cultivated, and the results were compared to the present flora of a square 10 × 10 km from the Atlas of Vascular Plants of Finland, in which the studied area is nested. The total flora counted 611 species, among them, 535 growing spontaneously or escapees from cultivation, and 76 exclusively in cultivation. The results showed that the flora of Seili and adjacent islands was almost as rich in species as that recorded in the square 10 × 10 km. This study contributed 74 new species to this square. The hitherto published analyses from this area did not focus on origin (geographic-historical groups), socioecological groups, life forms and on the degree of threat of recorded species. Spontaneous flora of the studied area constituted about 44% of the whole flora of Regio aboënsis.

With the exception of a few of the grape hyacinths (Muscari) and squills (Scilla) most of the species in this group are uncommon in gardens, and yet when grown under the right conditions some can be of considerable garden value and interest. Amongst the many specialists on the WW WW WW Rock Garden Plant Trials Sub-committee, 4 5 6 the RHS is fortunate to have the bulb experts Brian Mathew and Chris Brickell, who enthusiastically supported the idea to conduct a trial of the smaller, hardy Hyacinthaceae. In addition to the desire to raise the profile of this interesting group of ‘little blue bulbs’, they considered that a comparative trial might shed light on some of the problems associated with the BM BM identification and naming of certain 7 8 9 species and forms of hardy Hyacinthaceae. The family Hyacinthaceae In the 1980s a botanical review of the large family Liliaceae resulted in the proposal that it should be split up into many smaller families, one of which was BM WW MS Hyacinthaceae.
