Marcia Mondavi Borger, Honorary Chair Marcia shares oversight of all aspects of Continuum with her brother Tim. Marcia began her career in wine giving tours at Charles Krug Winery. With her family's founding of Robert Mondavi Winery (RMW) she worked in the cellar and lab and then moved into public relations and sales. MIAMI VICE: DINNER FOR EIGHT AT STILTSVILLE Courtesy of Patrick Sessions & Lucy Cruz Sessions, co-sponsored by John Kozyak & Barbara Silverman Value: Priceless

Stiltsville: See it like a Native Stiltsville’s storied history as a renegade village-on-stilts sits a mile offshore Key Biscayne and is the romantic subject of authors, poets and screenwriters. It was home to some of Miami’s most infamous parties where Florida’s “bad boy” elite partied alongside Governor Roy Collins.

Stiltsville’s heyday in the 1940s and 1950s made it “THE place where lawyers, bankers, politicians, and other moneyed, well-connected Miamians came to drink, relax and kick back. Law enforcement periodically visited the area, looking for vice activities.” More recently, Stiltsville was featured in the television series, Miami Vice with Don Johnson.

Fast forward about 30 years and our own Sonny and Rico (aka Alberto Dosal and John Kozyak) won’t be solving any crimes (or committing any), but will entertain you with stone crabs and steaks cooked to perfection as well as wine pairings by Chef and Sommelier for the day John Kozyak. You and seven guests will get the party started with some bubbly on Pat Sessions’ 52’ Hatteras Sport fisherman, Big Daddy. Kick back, relax and watch the beautiful Florida sun sink into the sea. Leave your cares on land and prepare to have the time of your life with some pretty great hosts. As you watch the moon rise, maybe you’ll hear the laughter of ghosts, the clinking of glasses and the clatter of dice of a bygone era.

“Life Magazine described Stiltsville in its prime as ‘an extraordinary American community dedicated solely to sunlight, salt water and the well-being of the human spirit.” Amen, brother.

LOT 1 | SCREAMING EAGLE CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 2013, (98-100, RP) Courtesy of Jim & Charlotte Monhart Value: $2,500

Screaming Eagle is a true cult wine which is almost impossible to get. The first release of 200 cases was in 1995 using 1992 fruit. Robert Parker gave it a 99 rating, and by 2000 there were 4,000 people on the waiting list. Screaming Eagle remains a small production (approximately 600 cases/year) wine.

Winemaker’s Notes What a back-to-back pair of ! I assume one would have to go back to 2002 and 2001 to find two Screaming Eagles this compelling. The 2013 appears set for 25-30 years of longevity. There is something magical about this Oakville parcel on the valley floor just under the looming hillsides of such wineries as Phelps, Bacchus and Dalla Valle's Maya, and across the street from the Rudd Estate, Plumpjack, etc.

LOT 2 | QUINTESSA RED WINE VERTICAL (2008 / 2009 / 2010) IN WOODEN BOX Courtesy of The Dosal Family Value: $450

"Quintessa, like all classic wines of the world, bears the same name as the vineyard from which it is made. Our goal is to produce the best expression of this extraordinary vineyard each year. In broad terms, Quintessa is a red meritage wine. Each year, it is a blend that can include some or all of the five grown on the estate: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenere. The vineyard's diversity provides us wide stylistic options for the wine. Fruit from each component block of Quintessa is harvested, sorted, then gravity fed into either oak or stainless steel fermentation tanks. Once fermentation and maceration are complete, each block wine is aged separately for up to two years in French oak barrels in our caves. After this aging period the components are brought together and the final Quintessa blend is created. The wine is then bottled and laid down for yet another year before release. Although each vintage is unique, we have discovered that finesse and elegance best express the character of the vineyard and as such, we blend for harmony, balance, and length of flavors. Above all, our objective is to make Quintessa a delicious wine that is complementary to food." - Agustin Huneeus Vintner/Proprietor

LOT 3 | A COLLECTION OF NAPA CLASSICS Courtesy of Lisa & Brian Tannebaum Value: $695

The next best thing to being there is sipping these wonderful examples of what Napa is all about: Paul Hobbs Beckstoffer-To-Kalon Cabernet, 2010 Merus, 2006 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet, 2009

“Dunn's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is loaded with blue and black fruit, grilled herbs, asphalt, melted road “A much darker and more virile wine, the 2010 Cabernet tar and smoke. A dark, juicy wine, the 2009 is surprisingly Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard opens with open for a young Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon. In this vintage, beguiling aromatics that meld into a core of blue and black Dunn's Lake Vineyard, the last parcel on the property to fruit, exotic spices, tar, smoke and violets. The 2010 boasts “…enormous power and richness. It is a massive, ripen, accounts for nearly 50% of the blend. Anticipated superb depth, power and richness in a weighty, brooding blockbuster-style effort possessing black fruits, plenty of maturity: 2014-2029. Randy Dunn's two 2009s are quite style that is the essence of To Kalon. A huge, intense finish spicy oak, hints of licorice and graphite, and mouth- different from each other in this vintage, something that rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2032.” staining tannins and extract in the finish.” isn't always the case. That's good news for Dunn fans, as –Wine Advocate –Wine Advocate the 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the Robert Parker 97 Points Robert Parker 92 estate's few recent releases that won't take ages to be accessible.” – Wine Advocate 11 Robert Parker 92

LOT 4 | JOSEPH PHELPS INSIGNIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 2008 & PETER MICHAEL LES PAVOTS CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 2007 Courtesy of Stephen N. Zack, Esq. & Amy and Hal Novikoff Value: $450

Phelps is best known for its flagship Napa Valley blend of red Bordeaux . Insignia, first produced in 1974 and awarded Wine Spectator's "Wine of the Year" in 2005, Insignia is widely regarded as a qualitative benchmark for California winemaking.

Wine Advocate 97 “…is a towering, statuesque wine bursting with blackberry jam, tar, spices, leather and licorice. It shows fabulous depth and richness backed up by serious, imposing tannins that suggest it has a long life. Ideally, the 2008 should be purchased by those who can be patient; it is not a wine for those seeking immediate gratification. The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038”

Les Pavots Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007 Wine Advocate 97 Wine Spectator 95 “... a Bordeaux varietal blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot, is brilliant. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by gorgeously complex aromas of melted chocolate, espresso roast, blackberries, and cassis. Full- bodied with a superb texture, a subtle note of oak, and fabulous concentration... A thirty-year wine, its impeccable balance and the sweetness of its tannins make it accessible already.” 12

LOT 5 | SAXUM VINEYARD JEWELS Courtesy of Dr. Lee Gibstein Value: $650

Saxum Vineyard’s founder, Justin Smith, has revolutionized Paso Robles winemaking, producing Rhone style wines. Local artists craft the bottle labels making them as extraordinary as the wines in them. Our good friend, Dr. Lee Gibstein, has been on the coveted Saxum list for years. For more information, click here.

James Berry, 2008 (Two Bottles) “James Berry Vineyard remains one of the iconic grand cru sites of California, an extraordinary block of limestone soil spread over a moderately steep hill. Produced from a tiny crop from the 55 acre James Berry Estate Vineyards, the 2008 is extremely impressive.” RP Rating: 98

Padereweski, 2009 “Layers of dark fruit meld into flowers, mint, sweet spices, menthol, eucalyptus and plums, with marvelous density and harmony. It is a dazzling effort, especially for a young vineyard in just its third leaf. The blend was 39% Zinfandel, 38% Syrah, 13% Petite Syrah and 10% Mourvedre. Anticipated maturity 2014-2021.” Wine Advocate Rating: 97

Terry Hoage, 2011 “More approachable and a sexy, seamless and layered effort, the 2011 Terry Hoage Vineyard (51% Grenache and 49% Syrah) has a distinct floral quality to go with fabulous crème de cassis, black raspberry, violets and licorice aromas and flavors.” RPWA Rating: 95

13

LOT 6 | CASE OF THISTLE WINES PINOT NOIR TO MAKE VERTICAL, 2009-2014 Courtesy of Thistle Wines Value: $450

Co-owner of Thistle Wines, Laura Jennison, is the daughter of our NPF Chair 2003-2007, Paul Oreffice. Thistle is a small, family-run winery whose wines are not distributed outside the Pacific Northwest, so this lot is special to us in many ways.

In her own words, “It all started with a glass of pinot noir. And from there things got a little crazy. A passion for wine developed into a search for the perfect place to make it. After looking up and down the West Coast, we settled on Oregon as the ideal place to pursue our dream.”

Laura has selected of six consecutive vintages of Thistle Dundee Hill Pinot Noir. It includes two bottles each of 2009-1014.

14

LOT 7 | SINE QUA NON CULT WINE, SIX BOTTLES Courtesy of Sue Gallagher Value: $2,150

“Sine Qua Non (also known as SQN) is a California cult winery known for its Rhône style blends, a tendency to avoid repetition, and a very limited production of wine that is highly difficult to obtain, with 100% of all releases allocated and directly sold to a carefully managed mailing list.” “And so our goal has been and always will be to understand Mother Nature’s often oblique ways and (re)act accordingly so that we may create wines that express all that Nature has so generously given us. And all that this beautifully warm and sunny place called California has to offer." Learn more here.

Five Shooter Central Coast Syrah, 2010 - 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2010 Syrah Five Shooter is straight up gorgeous. A massive wine that somehow holds everything together, it offers a wild array of cassis, blackberry, white chocolate, underbrush and pepper that flows to a full-bodied, layered Syrah that has masses of fine tannin and enough substance to evolve for decades.

Pictures Grenache, 2007 - 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate A blend of 87% Grenache, 11.5% Syrah, and 1.5% Viognier, this wine has wonderful floral notes intermixed with black raspberries, black cherries, licorice, graphite and some camphor. In the mouth, more white chocolate notes appear, along with meatiness and some silky tannins.

Covert Fingers Pinot Noir, 2004 - 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 462-case 2004 Pinot Noir Covert Fingers is seamless and elegant, with a ripe, layered profile of sweet cassis, forest floor, licorice and ground herbs. Coming all from the cooler climate Arita Hills Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and completely destemmed, aged in 70% new French oak (the rest in 1-3-year-old barrels), never racked, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it’s a full-bodied, beautiful effort that’s drinking at point.

B 20 Syrah, 2008 - 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2008 Syrah B-20 is a cool, inward wine graced with layers of beautifully delineated, chiseled fruit. This is a distinctly mineral, precise style relative to the more outgoing 2009, but both are striking. Floral notes add lift as the finish turns explosive with a burst of dark fruit, tar, licorice and crushed rocks.

Ventriloquist Central Coast Grenache, 2001 400 cases. Mid ruby, still so much red in the colour for an 15-year-old wine. Complex fruit and liquorice but it is still so surprisingly primary on the nose even though there is the beginning of leather. An hour later, much more undergrowth and not at all primary. Aged quite well but rather fragile once opened, ending up with some orange and spice, but the alcohol sticks out more as the texture has got thinner.

Résisté Central Coast Proprietary White, 2013 - 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2013 White Wine Résisté is a sensational white from California that's made from 45% Roussanne, 26% Chardonnay, 14% Petite Manseng, 10% Viognier and 5% Marsanne that spent 19 months in 46% new French oak and the balance in concrete eggs and used barrels. Possessing rock-star levels of richness and 15 texture on the palate, with full-bodied depth and power that never seems heavy or cumbersome, it has classic SQN white notes of buttered golden fruits, honeysuckle, honeycomb, toast and white flowers. LOT 8 | ROCHIOLI VINEYARD, SUMMER PACKAGE Courtesy of Joe & Sue Ziluca Value: $110

Rochioli Estate Chardonnay, 2013 Rochioli Estate Sauvignon Blanc, 2015 Rochioli Rosé of Pinot Noir, 2015

This Rosé of Pinot Noir is a mailing list and tasting room Wine Enthusiast 93 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 90 Points only release. It is very limited production and not rated.

“Tom Rochioli makes two Sauvignon Blancs. The 2015 "Richly caramelized on the nose, the seductive quality of this It was created by whole cluster pressing and free-run Sauvignon Blanc offers beautiful citrus, gun flint and wet wine continues on the palate, pushing the boundaries of baked pinot noir juice from our Estate Pinot Noir grapes and gravel in a medium-bodied but concentrated, crisp style with apple and voluptuous body without ever careening over the adding back just the right amount of traditionally hints of grapefruit and white currant.” (3/2016) edge. A classic California Chardonnay from a structured, produced Pinot Noir for color. This full-flavored wine has balanced vintage, it finishes with intriguing minerality." aromas of roses and strawberries. It can be served at room temperature as well as slightly chilled, if you prefer. 16

LOT 9 | TWO BOTTLES OF OPUS ONE RED WINE, 1999 AND 2000 Courtesy of The Dosal Family, Lee & Christopher Zoller Value: $675

VINTAGE 1999

Opus One is known for its exquisite texture, and the 1999 vintage is no exception. The wine shows aromas of cassis, cloves and roasted almonds against a creamy texture of soft tannins and round, rich fruit. Offering flavors of plum, cherry and black pepper, the 1999 will be charming in its youth and expressive at maturity.

Wine Spectator 93 Points "An exquisite, complex, stylish wine, wearing a cloak of earthy, leathery tannins around flavors of mineral, currant, earth and blackberry. Gains intensity and shows its depth and concentration on the finish, which is long and detailed."

VINTAGE 2000

Normal winter rainfall and slightly warmer temperatures in early spring led to an early bud break in Opus One’s vineyards, followed by a mild summer. Although veraison was also early, sustained cool temperatures over the summer led to slow ripening and an extended harvest, which started August 26th and concluded on October 27th. With a moderate to deep ruby color, the 2000 Opus One shows aromas of sandalwood, leather, caramel and a hint of anise. Soft and plush in the mouth, the wine offers flavors of plums and black licorice supported by sweet tannins and a long, intense finish.

Wine Enthusiast 92 Points "Graceful and elegant, but with hidden depths of authority and power. The blackberry, cherry and oak flavors are pretty, but the wine is most notable for its harmony and grace. Tannins play only a supportive role, but they will let this wine age effortlessly." 17

LOT 10 | PINOT NOIR HORIZONTAL, 2008, FOUR BOTTLES Courtesy of Lee & Christopher Zoller Value: $350

Kistler Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, 2008

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Vivid red. Drop-dead gorgeous perfume of raspberry preserves, Asian spices and fresh rose, with a deeper suggestion of violet. Sappy, penetrating and pure, with strikingly intense red fruit flavors underpinned by tangy minerality. Finishes with resonating spiciness and a lingering floral note. This wine's clarity is striking. (5/2011)

Rochioli "Estate" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, 2008

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The delicious 2008 Pinot Noir Estate (just under 4,000 cases produced) is one of the finest generic Pinots one can find from Russian River. It exhibits sweet pomegranate, raspberry, cherry, roasted herb notes along with a hint of smoky oak in its seductive, round, opulent personality. It should drink well for 7-8 years. This is another beautiful portfolio of wines from Tom Rochioli.

Williams Selyem "Westside Road Neighbors" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, 2008

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Saturated red. Captivating aromas of cherry-cola, pepper, Indian spices, cocoa powder and sandalwood. Then intense, spicy and penetrating in the mouth, with vibrant raspberry and wild strawberry flavors dominating. Finishes pungent, spicy and long, with a palate-staining whiplash of flavor. This calls for another five years of aging. (6/2010)

DuMOL "Estate" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, 2008

94 points Connoisseurs Guide

Right in step with the rest of its mates as far as concentration and depth are concerned, DuMOL's Estate Pinot is charged with an extra spark of enlivening acidity that presently brings a bit of finishing tartness. That said, the wine is generously filled with optimally ripe cherries, impressively layered and decked out with a full sweep of sweet oak, and, while it tightens up at the end, it is limited by nothing more than youth and may prove to be the longest-lived wine of the bunch. (2/2011) 18

In 1990, Boies, who had collected for decades, bought Hawk and Horse Vineyards located in Lake County, California and consulted Napa luminaries Caymus and Quintessa among others to achieve excellence in the winemaking.

Hawk and Horse Vineyards is now a family run winery “dedicated to organic and biodynamic farming, superior winemaking, and the art of balance in life as well as in the glass.” To learn more about the wines, please click here.

Spotlighted in Wine Spectator’s June 15, 2016 issue, Boies is quoted, “Law, like wine, is a series of personal relationships.” The same could be said of Wines on the Bay!

Red Hills Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon, 2011

LOT 13 | ONE CASE OF MENDOZA RED WINE FROM QCRU WINERY, ARGENTINA Courtesy of Tom Biery Value: $600

Tom Biery is a businessman, performing arts benefactor and wine lover who splits his time between Houston and Crested Butte, Colorado. He and his business partner recently purchased a nine acre vineyard in the Uco Valley in the Mendoza region of Argentina and is producing a fantastic blend of Malbec (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Syrah (15%), and Merlot (5%). The vineyard sits at an elevation of 3660 feet, and the wine is aged in oak for 15 months.

Tom has not begun selling his wine yet, sharing it only with close friends and family and a few of his favorite non-profits. A case sold at a recent Houston Red Cross benefit for close to a thousand dollars. Tom and his family have been friends and neighbors of our Chair, John Kozyak for more than 20 years in Crested Butte. John and “Wines on the Bay” Chair, Al Dosal, opened a bottle on an August evening in Colorado and decided there and then to bid aggressively at the event for the sheer pleasure of owning more of this beautiful red.

Wine Spectator 94 points

A rich version, with beautiful integration and mouthwatering acidity that seems to amplify the flavors of toasted raisin bread, black currant, candied orange zest and salted almond. Fresh and focused, showing hints of oyster shell and spice on the lasting finish. Disgorged September 2014. Drink now through 2030.

Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere, 2010 #2 wine in Wine Spectator’s top 100 of 2013

Wine Advocate 95 points

This wine shows wonderfully exotic tapenade, licorice, Christmas fruitcake, cedar wood, blackberry and sweet cherry notes in its strikingly provocative aromatics. On the palate, the wine is dense and full-bodied, with stunning concentration, purity, texture and length. It is full-bodied, silky smooth and seems to have more in common with the 2009 than one might expect, although the freshness and tannin levels are slightly 22 more elevated. Drink it over the next 20+ years.

91 Points, Wine Spectator

This inky black wine has a ruby red hue, with complex aromas of black cherry, mocha, and leather. Cassis aromas follow to the mouth with hints of espresso and well-integrated oak. The wine is well structured, rich, and full bodied. The tannins are round and chewy, contributing to the length and richness of the finish.

Walk into a celebration with Wright stuff and watch the cameras come out. Imagine a case of wine in one extraordinary bottle. The winner and three guests will also be treated to a tasting at Carter Vineyard in the Tasting Room.

Only nine Salmanazars of this vintage will be created.

It’s not everyone who gets the cover of Wine Spectator, and deservedly so. Wright has more than 100 wines rated 90+. Carter Vineyard was planted in 1983 at Panther Creek Winery and Ken Wright moved to this winery in 1985. He kept buying the fruit after he created Ken Wright Winery until August 2015 when he purchased Carter Vineyard.

“Lured by the promise of Oregon Pinot Noir, winemaker Ken Wright moved to the state in 1985 with little more than a truck and several barrels of California Cabernet and Merlot to sell. Now, after nearly three decades in the Pacific Northwest, Wright has cemented his legacy as a luminary of Oregon viticulture and terroir.” – Wine Spectator

“Wright is known for commitment to quality and he spares no expense or effort. He is known to discard a large percentage of his harvest as substandard, to employ merciless triage and sorting, and to disassemble and toast his own barrels to meet his stringent standards.” –The PinotFile v.10(28).

LOT 18 | GRACE FAMILY VINEYARD ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 1997, (1L) SPECIAL BOTTLE, ETCHED Courtesy of Sue Gallagher Value: $550

Wine Spectator 92 Points

"Dark and ripe, rich and elegant, with a core of cedary currant, earth and berry, finishing with supple, polished tannins and good length. Available only in 1L-bottles by mailing list. Best from 2002 through 2012. 48 cases made."

At its best, wine is an expression of place, and the little slice of land on which Grace Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is grown is certainly exceptional, even for the Napa Valley. But wine is also a reflection of the people who make it, and that starts with the farming and stewardship of the land. Radically dense spacing makes the vines work harder to do the one thing on their minds—make fruit—and that leads to a wine that is more keenly in tune with the land. Farming the estate naturally is good for the people living and working there, of course, but it also means that close attention must be paid to the vines at all times so that any potential problems can be nipped in the bud. The more these vines are in balance, the better the fruit, and the better the fruit, the easier it is to make great wine. Grace Family Vineyards’ wines have certain signature characteristics: they’re elegant, well-balanced, low in alcohol but 27 high in flavor and long-lived. LOT 19 | SCHRAMSBERG CELLARS MAGNUMS - J DAVIES DIAMOND MOUNTAIN DISTRICT CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 2012, BLANC DE BLANCS, 2013 Courtesy of Schramsberg Cellars Value: $300

LOT 20 | CAIN FIVE RED WINE, 2005, (3L) Courtesy of Roberto & Silvia Palenzuela Value: $820

WOTB’s friend and expert sine pari, Roberto Palenzuela, and his wife have chosen a large format Cain Five to auction.

Winemaker's Notes:

Cabernet Sauvignon 60% Cabernet Franc 16% Petit Verdot 14% Merlot 8% Malbec 2%.

“The 2005 Cain Five shows the emphasis we place on mouth feel: the texture of the tannins is extremely fine, yet distinctly present. The aromas are of fresh red cherries and exotic spices. The wine evolves very well in the open glass, which bodes well for the future. Today, you should decant the wine and sip it carefully. This wine will age gracefully for a long, long time.”

As the crow flies, Cain Vineyard and Winery is not far at all from the Napa Valley floor; philosophically, stylistically, it's in a somewhat different place. Located in the Spring Mountain District, the vineyards grow on terraces sculpted around an east-facing amphitheater. Winemaker Chris Howell points out that there's a flower that grows up here that imparts a distinct sweet aroma when the winds blow across the ridge...is that floral aroma also displayed in this still-evolving 2005 Cain "Five," a blend of five major Bordeaux varietals, with complex fruit, maple syrup and intriguing mint aromas. Meticulous winemaking goes into this wine, including: hand picking, gentle destemming, native-yeast fermentation, and manual pressing. The wine completes malolactic fermentation in the barrel, is blended early, is racked barrel-to- barrel, is egg-white fined, and is bottled without filtration. 29

LOT 21 | FROM CALIFORNIA TO ITALY! Courtesy of Michael Mondavi Family Estate Value: $1,890 M by Michael Mondavi, Atlas Peak, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009, (1.5L) 94 Points Wine Enthusiast Expensive, yes, but defines the soft, luxurious modern style of extreme deliciousness. Made with a drop of Petit Verdot that seems to add depth, the wine is fantastically rich in blackberry, blueberry and cherry jam, chocolate and sweet oak. The tannins are a wonder, and there’s just enough acidity to give a balanced tang. Will it age? Yes, but for how long is the question."

Emblem Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013, (1.5L) 90 Points Robert Parker The Wine Advocate The 2013 Emblem Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. It sells at a very modest $35.00. The wine has a deep ruby/purple color, loads of juicy fruit, a medium to full body (about 14.7% natural alcohol), a lush, heady, accessible mouthfeel. This is a steal, and a sleeper of the vintage, and capable of lasting up to a decade or more.

Castelgiocondo Riserva (Brunello di Montalcino), 2004, (1.5L) 93 Points Wine Enthusiast Beautifully intense and generous. this Riserva Brunello from Frescobaldi's Castelgioconda estate boasts a modern, determined style. Aromas here include black cherry, chocolate, tobacco and spice. In the mouth, this wine is rich, smooth and very persistent.

Giacosa Barbara D'Alba Falletto, 2011, (1.5L) 92 Points MONICA LARNER The 2011 Barbera d'Alba Falletto demonstrates a sudden jump in aromatic complexity with the careful introduction of Indian spice, leather, toasted nut and tobacco that coexists beautifully with the wine-s ripe blackberry fruit. The wine sees two months more oak than the other Barbera d-Alba, and this slight change goes a long way in terms of adding extra texture and density. This wine demonstrates that 2011 was an excellent year for Barbera. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.

LUCE, 2011, (1.5L) 95 Points Wine Spectator "Polished and complex, featuring ripe black cherry, plum, mint, vanilla, chocolate, leather and tobacco aromas and flavors. Dense and tannic, with concentrated sweet fruit for balance. Finishes long and harmonious. Merlot and Sangiovese. Best from 2017 through 2035."

Dal Forno Valpolicella Superiore, 2005, (1.5L) 95 Points Robert Parker/The Wine Advocate Dal Forno should really change the name of his 2005 Valpolicella Superiore. It is really an Amarone for all practical intents and 30 purposes, as it is made entirely from fruit that has been dried, albeit for less time than that legally required for Amarone. Firm, sturdy tannins frame blackberries, blueberries, violets and new leather in the 2005 Valpolicella. The wine’s gorgeous inner perfume and sheer depth suggest that all that is required is patience.

LOT 22 | J DANIEL CUVÉE CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 2013, THREE MAGNUMS Courtesy of Lail Vineyards Value: $1,650

Lail Vineyard’s flagship wine is named for John Daniel Jr., ancestor to the Lail Vineyards legacy. The 21st century interpretation of the family’s highly-acclaimed Cabernet blends of the past, the J. Daniel Cuvee is a beautifully integrated, Bordeaux style blend of estate and premium vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon selections.

Wine Advocate 99+ Points

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Daniel Cuvée is probably the qualitative equivalent of the 2012, but slightly more backward and coiled tight. Coming from three vineyards that Robin Lail uses in Napa Valley: one in Calistoga, one in Oakville and the other on Howell Mountain. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in about three-fourths new French oak. Just under 1,000 cases are produced. The 2013 comes across like a Napa version of the famous Château Montrose in Bordeaux's St.-Estephe. Earthy notes intermixed with chocolate, blackcurrant liqueur, grilled meats and spice are all present in this opaque purple wine. Graphite and floral notes are also present. It is full-bodied and ripe with beautiful purity and superbly integrated acidity, alcohol, wood and tannin. This wine needs another 4-5 years, as it's less dramatic and flamboyant compared to the 2012. It should evolve and age beautifully for 30+ years. -RP"

LOT 23| CASTELLO DELLE REGINE PRINCEPS, 2005, (6L): A JEWEL OF THE REGION SIGNED BY OWNERS Courtesy of John Kozyak & Barbara Silverman Value: $500

This large format bottle was signed by both owners and lovingly carried back from Italy during John Kozyak’s and Barbara Silverman’s last trip where they enjoyed their stay at the Castello delle Regine. “Castello delle Regine’s climate and hilly terrain with sandy clay soil makes an excellent environment for many red and white grape varietals, especially the indigenous Sangiovese and Merlot, often considered the jewels of the region.”

WINES AND GRAPES The 60 hectares of vineyards are located between 90 and 280 meters, on sandy-clay soil with mixed structure and optimal climatic conditions. Plants, with a density of 5600 vines per hectare, have recently created and are integrating the thirty-year old vineyards. The fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks from 50 to 110 hl, with punching a controlled temperature. Among the products we mention the finest Podernovo Umbria IGT 2000, a pure Sangiovese aged in barrels and casks; Sangiovese Umbria IGT 2000, aged in barriques for 11 months, concentrated perfumes and strong and of good length; Princeps Umbria IGT 2000, S blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Sangiovese aged in barrels, which evolves with cherry, body and soft tannins, Merlot IGT Umbria 2000 with good hints of ripe fruit, black pepper and cassis.

LOT 24| SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW: A GREAT SELECTION FROM A GREAT PRIVATE CELLAR Courtesy of Ethan W. Johnson Value: $800

Ethan Johnson, a great collector and our good friend has donated a beautiful magnum and four 750 ml bottles from his wonderful collection.

Chateau Beausejour Duffau Lagarosse, 2005, (1.5L) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate #176 "While no one will confuse the 2005 with this estate's prodigious 1990, it is an outstanding effort from one of St.-Emilion's finest terroirs. In terms of potential, the vineyard is exceeded only by Ausone, Pavie and Belair for micro-climate and exposition. A beautiful dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by an ethereal nose of blueberry liqueur, spring flowers, melted licorice, raspberries, and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied with good acidity, sweet but high tannin, a broad mouthfeel, and admirable elegance as well as freshness, this beauty should age easily for 25+ years. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035."

Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux, 2005 Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 94 “An excellent vintage for Bordeaux’s dry whites, which tend to be vastly underrated, exceptionally long-lived (30-40 years in some cases), the 2005 possesses crisp acidity as well as serious weight, richness, and texture.”

Mollydooker Carnival of Love, 2012 Wine Spectator #2 in top 100 wines of the year. You will be blown away by the depth and complexity of this wine. It is a big wine yet remains elegant. There are layers of rich cherry and blackberry fruits, creamy vanilla notes, chocolate and even some pepper and spice. It has great intensity and a silkiness that lingers over the palate. Wine Spectator 95 “Sinewy, lithe and expressive, packing red berry, black cherry and cardamom aromas and flavors into a tightly focused package. The finish expands and powers up, driving a long and meaty finish. Displays muscle and poise. Drink now through 2022. 4,729 cases made.” –HS

Araujo Syrah Eisele Vineyard, 1999 Wine Spectator 91 “Rich and intense, with complex, focused mineral, berry, leather, tobacco, white pepper and cedary notes. Concentrated, with a sense of elegance and polish. 300 cases made.”

Sea Smoke Pinot Noir Ten, 2008 Wine Enthusiast 90 "Saturated ruby. Deep, pungent aromas of black raspberry, cherry pie, vanillin oak and smoky Indian spices. Sappy, palate-coating cherry and dark 33 berry compote flavors show an exotic floral pastille quality and hints of clove and mocha. A distinctly rich, fleshy pinot that will aggravate Burgundy purists, but this wine makes quite a statement."

LOT 29 | PRIVATE WINE DINNER FOR SIX AT TABLAS CREEK VINEYARD WITH WINEMAKER ROBERT HAAS, FOUNDER OF TABLAS CREEK WINES Located in Paso Robles Wine Country Courtesy of Tablas Creek Vineyard Value: $2,000

Come join Robert Haas at his table and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime evening with one of America’s wine icons.

The Haas Family has been exceptionally generous once again and offers a V.I.P. dinner for six hosted by their own V.I.P. and patriarch, Robert Haas. One of just four Americans ever inducted into the prestigious Academie Internationale du Vin, Mr. Haas has been a leader in the wine industry for over sixty years, as an importer, wholesaler, vintner, and advocate for quality. You and five friends will be his guests at his vineyard, Tablas Creek in Paso Robles, and will enjoy a memorable gourmet dinner with him, showcasing wines not only from Tablas Creek’s library but also from Mr. Haas’s remarkable private cellar.

Tablas Creek is a partnership between the Haas and Perrin families, the culmination of a friendship begun in 1967 when Haas first visited Beaucastel and convinced Jacques Perrin to appoint him their American agent. Tablas Creek has been widely recognized for its seminal role in California’s Rhône movement; the Wine Spectator said early this year, “No one has done more in California to promote and educate wine lovers about Rhône-style wines than Tablas Creek.” Decanter Magazine adds, “Paso Robles is California's Rhône country, and nowhere else do Rhone varieties show better than in the hands of biodynamic winery Tablas Creek.” And in 2015, the Daily Meal named Tablas Creek the #1 Winery in the Country. A visit to their estate includes a tour of the state of the art winery, organic vineyard and unique on-site grapevine nursery, where they propagated the Rhône grape varieties they brought in from Beaucastel, many of which had never before been used in California.

Restrictions: Available between December 2016 and April 2017 at a mutually agreed upon date.

LOT 31 | DAVID ARTHUR VINEYARDS PRIVATE TASTING AND TOUR FOR FOUR, INCLUDES ELEVATION 1147 CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 2013, (3L) Located in Napa Valley Courtesy of David Arthur Vineyards Value: $1,235

Located high on Prichard Hill, the David Arthur Estate offers breathtaking views of the valley floor 1200 feet below. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are grown on the rough mountain terrain. You and three guests will be treated to a private tasting and tour of this special vineyard. Date to be mutually agreed upon and expires November 30, 2017.

“Every year we have the opportunity to take the best of the best grapes and let them stand by themselves, we call this Elevation 1147. Elevation 1147 is always 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and a core percentage comes from the same block each year. The wine style is that of no other from David Arthur in that the structure is massive and full palate. The name Elevation 1147 comes from our location high atop Pritchard Hill.”

TASTING NOTES: “Our 2013 Elevation is massive wine with a dense deep ruby color offering aromas of spicy brambled baked fruit of blackberry and currant, that transition to earth driven aromatics of forest-wet soil, cocoa nibs, and spice tones like wild sage/bay laurel, bergamot/black tea and hints of cedar. The palate is rich, broad and fleshy with a seductively fine grain, yet rigidly built texture finishing with baked cherry, licorice candy and persistence. Best from 2016 to 2036.”

LOT 32 | ALMAVIVA VINTAGE DOUBLE MAGNUM (3L) WITH VIP TOUR AND TASTING HOSTED BY WINEMAKER MICHAEL FRIOU AT ALMAVIVA WINERY, PUENTE ALTO, CHILE Courtesy of Almaviva Winery Value: $800

Almaviva, in the Maipo Valley, Chile’s central zone is home to the joint partnership of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild and Concha y Toro. The goal to make superb Franco-Chilean wine has been achieved thanks to perfect conditions and meticulous care of the vines. This bodega was designed by the famous Chilean architect Martín Hurtado. Built in 1998, and inaugurated in the year 2000, this winery is recognized as a perfect integration of both esthetic design and functionality.

For its construction, native woods were brought from the south of Chile, integrating the bodega into the typical chilean Central Valley landscape. The decoration of its interior is inspired by the native people of Chile, using throughout the bodega symbols and artifacts representative of the Mapuche culture.

Date to be mutually agreed upon. Certificate redeemable for Eight guests.

Rating: 93

"The 2011 Almaviva, from a cool, dry vintage, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot which feels young, fresh, serious and quite classical- styled with notes of cassis, graphite and ripe black fruit, but also some raspberries and aromas of sweet spices, licorice and fennel. It has a special brightness and light, starting to slowly develop some complexity. The palate is concentrated, medium to full-bodied with ripe, round tannins, no edges, good concentration and weight. It’s still a baby, a little marked by the oak, but with enough density and freshness to come into greater balance. It should grow up slowly and live a long life. Drink 2016-2029."

Given the painstaking nature of this process, production will generally be very limited.

LOT 43 | PRIVATE DINNER FOR EIGHT AT VILLA BERULIA IN NEW YORK CITY, INCLUDES THREE MAGNUMS OF MARCHESI DI BAROLO, BAROLO SARMASSA, 2011, (1.5L) Dinner Courtesy of Villa Berulia, Wine Courtesy of Marchesi Di Barolo Value: $1,555

This lot could be called the “Chair’s Dinner” because of John Kozyak’s friendships with Anna Abbona, the co-owner of Marchessi di Barolo, and Maria Ivanac, the co-owner of Villa Berulia. These are two amazing women and NPF supporters.

An elegant Mediterranean retreat in the heart of the Murray Hill district for 35 years, Villa Berulia is indeed a special place, not only for their excellent Northern Italian and Dalmatian Coast cuisine, but for their special connection to Parkinson’s – Co-owner, Maria, understands first-hand the challenges of living with Parkinson’s disease. The “unofficial” headquarters of the Marlene and Paolo Fresco Institute for Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders at the NYU Langone Medical Center, Villa Berulia is hands down John Kozyak’s favorite New York restaurant. But it’s not only his favorite, Villa Berulia has been awarded the Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor for 2016.

In a city where restaurants open and close in the blink of an eye, Villa Berulia’s longevity speaks volumes about the old world charm and grace with which they take care of their customers, and oh yes, there’s the food! Your lucky party of eight will really be treated as Johnny and Maria’s special guests as you dine on homemade pastas and Croatian delicacies along with the classics matched with superb wines.

Marchesi Di Barolo’s historical cellars are in the village of Barolo in the heart of the Langhe area of the Piedmont region. The cellars were built in 1807 and they have been passed down through 5 generations of the Abbona family. This is definitely a winery you want to visit when you are next in the Piedmont region. They have donated 3 magnums of the 2011 Barolo Sarmassa, which received 93 points from the Wine Advocate. "The 2011 Barolo Sarmassa is a complete wine with a vibrant bouquet that is redolent of dark cherry, blackberry, spice, leather and tobacco. Ethereal notes of chopped herb and cherry cola appear at the back. In the mouth, Barolo Sarmassa shows power, concentration and tight textural richness.”

John guarantees you will enjoy yourselves drinking the Marchessi di Barolo at Villa Berulia. Invite him to join you and he will try his hardest and bring some older wines from the winery.

Sensory characteristics: Deep garnet red. Intense aroma with clean scents of wild rose, vanilla, licorice and spices. Feather the resin of pine and tobacco. Taste is full and elegant, full bodied, with tannins in evidence. Enjoyable are the spicy and54 woody notes that blend perfectly.

“My process begins with a staged photo in my studio and then I print the images on a textured canvas. Each piece is uniquely enhanced with an acrylic and gesso mixture to show texture and enhanced color. Then a custom frame is built for the canvas to be stretched across and varnished for protection from UV rays and dust. My art is inspired by great relationships and the attributes I admire in them like intellect and authentic confidence. To me, wine parallels our interactions and how we connect with one another. Artworks, like people and relationships, are introduced to you, and some you like, some you don't. Some go "bad" and are discarded, to never be seen again...But the fun happens when we share in small intimate groups or are paired with a life partner, grilled lamb shoulder or hand-rolled cigar from a remote location. I used to refer to myself as a ‘self-taught” photographer...but in reality, we do not actually teach ourselves; we learn through life lessons and personal experiences. We are then able to use those experiences to color our thoughts and guide our actions and, for me, project them into ART. So with that, I am an Artist of Life.” To view his beautiful work, please visit Marcus Ryan Studios.
