The summer is perfect for walking on beautiful mountain pastures and climbing to the highest peaks. Go swimming or diving in the many mountain lakes, visit the oldest salt mines in the world, venture into a labyrinth of caves or experience a real sense of freedom by paragliding from the summit of the Krippenstein. Climb steep rock faces or visit the Urzeitwald (Primeval Forest) and the Museum of Rural Life in Gosau. The Salzkammergut Hand.Werk.Haus in Bad Goisern offers locally crafted goods for sale and there are numerous inns and mountain huts throughout the region. In the winter months you can speed your way over well-groomed ski slopes, go snowshoeing or take time to admire the magnificent scenery. Clamber up frozen waterfalls or go off-piste skiing on the Krippenstein. Relax and enjoy a romantic horse-drawn sledge ride in Gosau, or try ice-skating and enjoy the clean, fresh air.

CHORINSKY HERMITAGE Culturally significant monument which dates back to the year 1819. Trees were uprooted due to severe flooding and were washed down towards the River Traun. Felling is no longer allowed for reasons of natural protection, but the hermitage is still well worth a visit . The Chorinsky Hermitage in the Weißenbach Valley is accessible by foot or by mountain bike. Distance is approx. 6 km. ANZENAU MILL This property is around 600 years old and was formerly a considerable enterprise. “Anzenau Mill Bread” is still being baked today in the so-called “Black Oven” – made from old stone. There are bread baking demonstrations and other exhibitions at the museum. FIGURES AND LEGENDS TRAIL T Exciting tales from the Goisern Valley are depicted along the trail from the Rathlucken Hut to the “Ewigen Wand”. Carved wooden figures bring the stories to life. At the end of the trail there are 2 short tunnels with views towards Bad Goisern and Lake Hallstatt. Trail suitable for pushchairs. Accessible in winter when there is little snow at own risk.

LOCAL HISTORY MUSEUM Situated in the Goiserer Mühle in Goisern. Discover the history and culture of Bad Goisern. 5 WOODCUTTERS MUSEUM Approx. 200 years old. The “Dürrenholzstube” was transported from Weißenbach and carefully reconstructed in Müllerwäldchen by the local history group in 1977, complete with all the old tools and equipment used by the woodcutters. Each woodcutter would bake his own bread and dripping in front of the open fire. Old pictures and display items provide us with an insight into the hard and often dangerous work carried out by the woodcutters. BUMMELZUG TRACTOR TRAIN Travel in comfort by Gosau tractor train to many different mountain huts. Every Tuesday and Saturday from May to October there are trips to the gritstone quarries. On Saturdays from July to September we continue afterwards to the Plankenstein Hut. Trips up to the quarries, the Plankensteinalm, the Ebenalm or the Iglmoosalm are available at any time. 8 LÖCKERNMOOS – A NATURAL GEM This spectacular area of high mountain moorland with its tiny lake is popular with visitors of all ages. There is a circular trail to numerous mountain plateaux. Tours available May to October.

CHARNEL HOUSE T Dates back to the 12th century. The graveyard had always been too small, and so the skeletons were unearthed after 10 years of burial and the skulls decorated with symbols and the date of death. There are 1200 skulls in Hallstatt’s Charnel house, 610 of which have been painted.

15 DACHSTEIN KRIPPENSTEIN T (5Fingers, World Heritage Spiral, Dachstein Shark) Take the modern Dachstein Krippenstein cable car to the wonderful panoramic summit at 2000 metres with its views over the Dachstein and the Salzkammergut. The spectacular 5Fingers viewing platform reaches into the sky like a hand over a 400 metre drop. From the World Heritage Spiral you can enjoy the panorama to the fullest extent and take home a permanent memory from the photo point. There are well-marked walking trails of all levels of difficulty, for example the Heilbronner trail, where you pass the Dachstein Shark viewing point. Depending on the weather conditions and the snow, the 5Fingers and World Heritage Spiral are also accessible in the winter. Salzkammergut Cycle Trail, This trail takes you on a complete tour of the Dachstein- Salzkammergut Holiday Region. Starting in Bad Ischl, the former summer residence of Kaiser Franz Joseph, the route takes you in a southerly direction to Bad Goisern and along the eastern shore of the Hallstatt Lake towards Obertraun. From here you cycle to the idyllic World Cultural Heritage Town Hallstatt. Just before Obertraun there is the option to take the boat across the lake to Hallstatt (transport of E-Bikes not possible!) The route continues along the newly established cycle path which leads to Bad Aussee. GOSAU HOT AIR BALLOON WEEK January, Gosau For one whole week, the sky above Gosau in the Inner Salzkammergut is converted into a colourful sea of balloons. As part of the international “Alpentrophy”, between 30 and 40 balloon teams are expected to attend from across Europe. The highlight of the event is certainly the “Night of Balloons”- a unique experience for young and old alike. Majestic giant balloons light up the night and “dance” to sweeping musical tones. A wonderful ending to the event takes place in the form of an enormous fireworks display.
CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION On Lake Hallstatt, Corpus Chrisi, Hallstatt This traditional procession has been taking place on the Hallstatt Lake for at least 389 years. This popular national holiday celebrates local tradition and history right by the lake.

109 BRINGING LIVESTOCK HOME FROM THE MOUTAIN PASTURES September, Gosau When the days start getting shorter again, animals who have spent the summer up on the mountains will return to the valley. Following old traditions, the cows and horses are dressed with colourful garlands and are then led back down into the valley. Alongside folk music, you can also try out some traditional delicacies such as “Schneeballn” and “Almrausch”.
SHEEP GATHERING September, Bad Goisern Autumn has finally arrived and it is time for the sheep on the mountain pastures to be gathered together. After spending all summer up on the mountains, it is time for them to return to their stables in the valley where they will spend the winter.
GOSAU TRADITIONS IN ADVENT During the first and second weekends in Advent in Gosau, traditional events take place at the local history museum. ST NIKOLAUS COMES TO VISIT At the beginning of December in Obertraun, St. Nicholas travels across the lake in his traditional salt boat towards the lake shore. GLÖCKLER Every year on the 5th January, the “Glöckler” teams from Obertraun and Bad Goisern invite you to their traditional procession. Dressed in hand-crafted headgear, lit up inside, the aim of this event is to drive away evil spirits with the brightness of their attire and the sounds of bells chiming.
