Detailed Trip File One Foot Abroad Second Floor, 16/17 Suffolk Street DeDublin 2,tIrealandiled trip file SELF-GUIDED WORLD HERITAGE REGION UK: +44 (0)20 3411 0701 LEISURE AND FREEDOM Ireland: +353 (0)1 687 2141 WALKING PARADISE USA: +1 916 287 8651 NATURAL LANDSCAPES France: +33 (0)1 82 88 31 76 [email protected] O Summary “World heritage region”: the mighty Dachstein – 2995 meters high – has been decorated with this award in 1997. The impressive mountain landscape along with Hallstatt and the region Dachstein Salzkammergut were named world heritage region by UNESCO. Amazing diverse – just like the endless views of the panoramic Alps – there are plenty of opportunities for enjoying leisure and freedom here on the Zwieselalm in Gosau. There is something for everyone here – with long walks or climbing tours or casual strolls. Even if you just want to spend a few hours escaping from everyday life, soaking up the sun in the meadows and enjoying a hearty local snack: you are sure to find everything your heart desires in the Gosau-Zwieselalm walking region. Here are some of the best walking tips and tour suggestions from the Inner Salzkammergut region. Rugged, rocky landscapes, green alpine pastures, bizarre, jagged crags, towers and mighty cliff faces, glacial ice, limestone peaks, isolated high plateaus, virgin forests and scenic mountaintops, mysterious karst springs and reflecting tarns – these images characterize our eight-day hike on and around the Dachstein. The fascination of the Dachstein becomes tangible. We tackle our circumnavigation of the Dachstein in a counter-clockwise direction, since the natural landmarks and the elevation changes blend more harmoniously into the route. Beginning in the north-west on the shore of the Gosausee, we continue at the foot of the Gosaukamm and along the south face of the Dachstein to Ramsau. From there we hike one tier higher, east across the glacier to the Guttenberghaus and continuing on to the Stoderzinken. Now through the Notgasse andViehbergalm, we make our way north across a secluded high plateau in the footsteps of pilgrims and come to the Salzkammergut region. On flat paths, always following the course of the Traun, we hike through the Salzkammergut, past Bad Aussee, Obertraun, Hallstatt and Bad Goisern. And finally, we cross the Kalmgebirge Mountains, home to the Goiserer Hutte, on our path to Gosau. The Grabenbach Formation (Gosau Group, Santonian – Lower Campanian) in the Lattengebirge (Germany): lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and strontium isotope stratigraphy Michael WAGREICH WAGREICH, M., 2003: The Grabenbach Formation (Gosau Group, Santonian – Lower Campanian) in the Lattengebirge (Germany): lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and strontium isotope stratigraphy. – In: Piller, W. E. (Ed.): Stratigraphia Austriaca. – Österr. Akad. Wiss., Schriftenr. Erdwiss. Komm. 16: 141–150, 3 Figs., 1 Tab., Wien. Abstract: The Gosau Group of Salzburg – Bad Reichenhall comprises basal red conglomerates (Kreuzgraben Formation), sandstones and sandy marls of the “Glanegger Schichten”, detrital carbonates of the “Untersberg Formation”, marls with tempestites of the Grabenbach Formation and deep-water marls and sandstones of the Nierental Formation. The Dalsenalm section within the Grabenbach Formation of the Lattengebirge was investigated in detail. The lithofacies is character- ized by shelf marls and minor tempestite sandstones. Biostratigraphic data indicate the asymetrica planktonic foraminiferal Zone, and CC16 and CC17 nannofossil standard zones of the Santonian to the earliest Campanian. Strontium isotope ratios can be compared to the standard strontium isotope curve and allow a detailed correlation of the Santonian – Campanian boundary to standard sections in Germany and England. The apparent mélange of minerals and rock fragments, so-called Haselgebirge, represents a main part of the East Alpine evaporates. The primary sedimentary structures are highly overprinted by complex fold and fault structures caused by alpine orogenesis events and high plasticity of salt minerals like halite. Thus recovering of evaporite sequences and stratigraphic records is highly challenging and still a matter of debate. The present study is focused on the distribution of Br−, Sr2+ and 34=32S isotopes in salt minerals as well as on the microstructure through the evaporite deposit (≈ 600 m drill core) to decipher potential stratigraphic records and primary versus secondary sequences.
