On 1 April 1537 Archbishop Olav Engelbrektsson fled out the Trondheimsfjord. Years of political strife within the Danish-Norwegian kingdom combined with the religious turmoil of 16th century Europe, had pulled the Metropolitan into a political struggle he ended up losing. However, he had one trick card up his sleeve. As his last known deed on Norwegian soil, Olav Engelbrektsson and his men went ashore at Austrått, Ørland where they plundered the manor of Ingerd Ottesdatter, a woman that had proved her- self to be one of the Archbishop’s strongest opponents. This powerful woman and her role in the political play in the years leading up to the Reformation, forms the founda- tion for The Reformation Project Austrått 1537.
