Like no other language, music brings people, cultures and generations together. It is understood across all national borders. Its inexhaustible power, beauty and purity give me the inner strength to stand up for cultural identity, friendship and peace. Which is why it is a great honour for me to act as the cultural patron of the International Piano Forum, which awards the International German Piano Award every year. The International Piano Forum promotes brilliant piano talents worldwide with great dedication and supports them in making an international stage career – a challenge I am pleased to accompany. Through the connection between the Tchaikovsky Competition and the International German Piano Award, even more musical bridges will be built between the two countries. The secret of music lies in always making it sound alive, allowing everyone to feel the warmth and life hidden within it and creating from it an emotional story. Valery Gergiev INTERNATIONAL PIANO FORUM 2 LARS VOGT ARTISTIC PATRON OF THE INTERNATIONAL GERMAN PIANO AWARD The International German Piano Forum aims to find and support pianists worldwide, who are able to feel the creative spirit of the greatest com- posers of classical music in history, due to their outstanding artistic personalities and performances. With this talent, these pianists are able to transmit this spirit with the help of their artistic knowledge to the audience in a moving and convincing way. The task of a pianist is diverse and includes an exact knowledge of the compositi- ons, the composers, the period and the musical language. Most importantly it includes an understanding of one's self and the boundless vastness, which are slumbering in all of us and composers have wonderfully addressed throughout history. The promotion of such talents is a responsible task that the International Piano Forum has undertaken for seven years now with the International German Piano Award, through continuous commitment to its laureates and nominees. No easy task, but it's worth it. What would life be without music? As the Artistic Patron of the International German Piano Award, I would like to thank all the sponsors, patrons and contributors and appeal to them to continue to support this initiative in the future.
