This is particularly true in the Middle East, where new weapons are proliferating, especially among Iranian-backed groups, such as the Houthis in Yemen and Hamas in Gaza, as well as militias in Iraq and Hezbollah in Lebanon. […] Rumors about Iron Dome being offered to the Gulf or even the US sending its Iron Dome batteries there have been mentioned before. In fact, Yoel Guzansky in March argued that Israel must consider assisting Saudi Arabia, which is under constant missile attack. Guzansky is a senior research fellow specializing in Gulf politics and security at Tel Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies. He is one of Israel’s leading experts on the Gulf, which makes him well placed to understand not only the Abraham Accords but also the new complex issues involving Saudi Arabia. “Israel would do the right thing by offering the [Saudi] kingdom assistance in defending its strategic facilities against the growing threat from Iran,” Guzansky wrote. There are many issues at play here. Offering the Iron Dome may not be possible due to some sensitive issues involved with the system. According to the commanders, soon all of Israel will be under missile threat from Lebanon and Gaza, which adds new urgency to Israel to develop a system that is capable of shooting down short-range rockets. Major General Amos Yadlin also warned that Iran is seeking to smuggle a large number of Fajr-5 (Dawn) rockets into Gaza. The Fajr-5 rockets have a range of 68-75 km, are fired from a mobile launcher, and were first used by Hamas in January 2009 to bombard the Negev town of Beersheba.

    Fact Sheet: Surface-to-Air PYthon-5 and DERby-Air Defence System (SPYDER) 04 Jul 2018 The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) replaced its RAPIER air defence system with the Surface-to-air PYthon-5 and DERby (SPYDER) ground based air defence system in 2011. The SPYDER is part of the enhanced Island Air Defence (IAD) system. The IAD system is a multi-layered networked island-wide networked system that brings together sensors, weapon systems, command and control elements and decision making tools to further strengthen Singapore's air defence. As an all-weather air defence system, the SPYDER enhances the RSAF's capability to effectively deal with a wide spectrum of aerial threats. The capabilities of the SPYDER air defence system include anti-aircraft and anti-munition capabilities, and is able to deploy both 1 the PYthon-5 and Derby missiles which are fitted with infrared imaging and radio frequency seekers respectively. The SPYDER intercepts targets at longer ranges and higher altitudes for improved operational effectiveness. It is equipped for 360 degree engagement against aerial threats and is able to engage multiple aerial targets simultaneously. Integrated into the enhanced IAD system, the SPYDER is able to tap on a real-time integrated air picture to respond faster and engage targets with greater precision.
