Dear colleagues, after that sad March 8, in which an unexpected news shocked us and deprived us of our daily lives, we left always remembering the dates, such as the beginning and end of a nightmare, in particular that of May 18 as the day on which we regained our freedom. In order to relaunch tourism in the Sicily Region, we have scheduled a meeting from 16 to 21 October in Sciaccamare, a renowned spa resort and popular seaside resort, located on the splendid south-west coast, about 65 km from the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, and 120 km from Palermo international airport. Home to the living room, the modern and comfortable 4-star structure Torre del Barone, located in the wonderful park of Sciaccamare, the ideal place for a relaxing holiday in contact with nature. The rooms have private facilities, TV, direct dial telephone, Wi-Fi, mini-fridge, safes and air conditioning. The restaurant is held in an elegant restaurant room where every day there are appetizing buffets always enriched with new proposals and accompanied by wine and water in the carafe at will and draft beer. The Hotel also has a wonderful beach of fine sand, equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, reachable by following the suggestive paths that cross the luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation or, alternatively, by using the convenient shuttle service carried out with a train.

It was established by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) on the 28th November 2013 and the Statute was formally adopted on 4th December 2015. The MTF aims to encourage the implementation of actions that promote the sustainable growth of tourism across the Mediterranean region by developing tools and opportunities that support the various stakeholders in achieving this objective. MTF also aims to serve as a catalyst by presenting and disseminating existing initiatives to inspire the replication of pilot projects and good practices. The MTF is comprised of individual and corporate members from all over the world who share an interest in Mediterranean tourism related matters. This document presents the information concerning the implementation of the General Programme of Work for 2008-2009. It describes briefly the main activities carried out during 2008, as well as those undertaken in the first half of 2009. A separate document (A/18/11 (b)) reports on the evaluation of these activities. 2. The information regarding the implementation of the programme of work is presented according to the programme’s strategic objectives (A, B, C and D), then by specific objectives and by areas of activity, following the structure of the document A/17/7 Rev. “Programme of Work and Budget of the Organization for the Period 2008-2009” approved by the General Assembly. 3. During 2008, the Secretariat carried out in full all the activities planned and included in the Programme of Work for that year. It was established by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) on the 28th November 2013 and the Statute was formally adopted on 4th December 2015. The MTF aims to encourage the implementation of actions that promote the sustainable growth of tourism across the Mediterranean region by developing tools and opportunities that support the various stakeholders in achieving this objective. MTF also aims to serve as a catalyst by presenting and disseminating existing initiatives to inspire the replication of pilot projects and good practices. The MTF is comprised of individual and corporate members from all over the world who share an interest in Mediterranean tourism related matters. THE VISION The vision of MTF is inspired by the shared will of stakeholders from both public and private tourism sectors to revitalise efforts to transform the Mediterranean into an area of peace, cooperation and prosperity by investing and promoting sustainable tourism growth across the region. Accordingly, the MTF is committed to reinforce co-ownership of new Mediterranean relations in areas related to tourism through concrete regional cooperation projects. En la actualidad y pese a los avances realizados con respecto a la aplicación de parámetros de accesibilidad, el cliente turístico con discapacidad sigue encontrándose una serie de barreras que le dificultan, y en la mayoría de los casos impiden, el acceso y disfrute de las actividades que se enmarcan dentro del Sector Turístico: Agencias de Viaje, Transporte, Alojamiento, Restauración y la oferta complementaria. Desde la Consejería de Turismo, Comercio y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía, a través de la Empresa Pública Turismo Andaluz, se considera oportuno abordar el tema de la accesibilidad en comunicación en los diferentes tipos de alojamientos turísticos, a través de la “Guía de accesibilidad en comunicación para alojamientos turísticos en Andalucía”. ¿Por qué hacer de su alojamiento turístico y de sus servicios un lugar accesible? 1. Porque el turismo es un derecho para todos/as 2. Porque la accesibilidad, igualdad de oportunidades y no discriminación, son derechos para las personas con discapacidad.
