For the 2016-2017 school year, we will be continuing our success by incorporating new curriculum and expanding on areas where our students have demonstrated a mastery of skills. As a result of our dedication to equity through excellence, SCPS has seen a tremendous amount of personal and academic growth in its students. Great instruction, involved parents, engaged students and a meaningful 21st century curriculum all play an essential role in maintaining the high levels of achievement we see year after year. Superintendent The School Board and I are committed to providing all of our students Karen Almond Jeffrey Bauer with the opportunity to have hands-on experience in the area of computer science. In doing so, we will be expanding our successful kindergarten coding program to the 1st and 3rd grade levels in the 2016-2017 school year. KidZone & Beyond (formally extended day) will be adding a new before and after school care program called K-Zone at Sanford, Chiles and Rock Lake Middle Schools. In an effort to provide more opportunities for our high achieving students, we will be adding an International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Winter Springs High School. In addition, we have increased the amount of dual enrollment options and are adding an Associates of Arts program at several high schools. In speaking with our business partners about the growing needs in current industries, we have developed a cybersecurity program of emphasis at Lake Howell High School and expanded our advanced manufacturing program at Lake Mary High School. For the 2017 graduates, we have added AP Capstone courses, which includes a diploma option. World language students will also have the opportunity to earn a seal of biliteracy on their diploma.     Good evening parents, this is Mr. Rice, Principal of Lyman High School and this is your Weekly Principal’s Update! Last week was one heck of a busy week for our Greyhounds! We started off last Saturday with our students representing Lyman High School so well at the Seminole County Science Fair. As I walked around the exhibits, it just amazes me to think about how they come up with the concepts that they test. I was thoroughly impressed. In this newsletter, you’ll see that so many of our students earned awards and recognition for their hard work. Well done! Monday night, the Mayor and City Commissioners of the City of Longwood recognized Senior, Ridge Bonnick as their Juvenile of the Year! It was a great ceremony where they recognized an incredible young man! Congratulations Ridge! Tuesday brought our annual review of our ROTC Program! At the end of the day, I met with the reviewer and learned that our group earned a 98% (197 out of a possible 200) points! This is an incredible score and one that is rarely achieved by any ROTC Unit! This truly is a team effort between our instructors, Lieutenant Colonel Clark, 1st Sergeant Albert, and 1st Sergeant Turner along with our students. Outstanding work! Wednesday afternoon, we recognized several of our student athletes this week who have committed to playing their respective sport at the next level of competition. As I spoke with our students, their family and friends, and the many teachers and coaches that attended the NCAA Signing Day Ceremony, I couldn’t help to think about how special this moment it was.

    NOVEMBER 2019 Principal’s Message Administration Dear Greyhound Families, Principal We are off to a GREAT GREYHOUND start! The first quarter has been filled with spirit, pride, community, and Mr. Michael Rice most importantly, academic success! Our enrollment has leveled out at just over 2,200 students which includes approximately 615 new students that make up our Freshman Class, the Class of 2023! Our school continues to shine both in the community, as well as across the state and I could not be more proud of the high levels of achievement earned by our teachers, staff, and students. It gives me great pride to say that I am the Principal of this incredible Office Hours school, and I look forward to seeing the outcome of our work as we progress through the 2019-2020 school year. 7:00 am - 3:00 pm Over the summer, we were once again awarded a “B” rating by the Florida Department of Education. While it is Monday - Friday not the “A” rating we hoped for, the overall progress achieved by our campus blew me away. The tireless work of our students and our teachers led to a total growth of 31 points from the year before. This was the highest growth achieved of all Seminole County high schools, also earning us the highest point total of the five high schools that earned a “B” rating. The points earned were a result of growth in our Learning Gains, as well as Academic Proficiency. Lyman High School Our goal is, and will always be for all students to earn “One Year’s Growth in One Year’s Time.” As a result of our innovative teachers and hard-working students, we honored almost 600 students with an ice is committed cream sandwich or a Chick-fil-A sandwich for earning “One Year’s Growth in One Year’s Time.” We are proud of our students and look forward to the growth of all students when we test in April.

    April | May | June 2019 General Manager’s Address State of the club – from the GM’s office! First and foremost, we would like to thank you for your continued membership, participation and good will that you provide at the clubs. It truly is a pleasure to have such a great membership! It has been a great start to the 2019 season and the year is flying by already. With great HLMGA and HLLG events to date such as Member-Member at Legacy and Ladies Member Guest, playing both Heathrow and Legacy it has been an exciting start to the tournament season. The spring time is such a fantastic time at the clubs with Club Championship (Heathrow Men’s and Women’s), the dual course combined Men’s Member Guest, Easter Brunch and Easter Egg Hunt, Spring Fling in late April and gearing up for summer time at the pool (Go Stingrays!). So, we are very busy and enthusiastic heading through the first quarter of the year and building momentum for the remainder. There are many great initiatives we have been working on to kick off 2019 and assess any way we can improve the club for the membership. A big part of that has been a focus on fitness, wellness and needed upgrades to our Racquet Club. We have installed a new classroom area, dou- bled our fitness classes and have made facility changes to accommodate many more pieces of new equipment that will be delivered in April, including spin bikes to execute spin classes, for example. Our fitness launch party was fantastic in January with 250 members attending.

Bradshaw is the first Gatorade Wyoming Girls Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Lyman High School. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Bradshaw as Wyoming’s best high school girls basketball player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award announced in March, Bradshaw joins an elite alumni association of past state girls basketball award-winners, including Maya Moore (2005-06 Collins Hill HS, Ga.), Rashanda McCants (2004-05, Asheville HS, N.C.), Candace Parker (2001-02, Naperville Central HS, Ill.), Diana Taurasi (1998-99 & 1999-00, Don Antonio Lugo HS, Calif.), Shyra Ely (1999-00, Ben Davis HS, Ind.) and Lisa Leslie (1988-89, Morningside HS, Calif.). The 5-foot-11 junior guard/forward led the Eagles to a 22-3 record and the Class 3A state quarterfinals this past season. Bradshaw led the state in scoring, averaging 23.3 points per game, along with 10.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 5.4 steals and 1.4 blocks. A three-time Class 3A All-State honoree, Bradshaw was named the 2017 Casper Star-Tribune Wyoming Player of the Year.

Students will read a variety of types of world literature, including short stories, poetry, novels and drama. Students will make the transition from "framing your thoughts" to 1115 English 9A* 9 Grade 9 conventional grammatical terminology. Some class time will involve learning to break down into their original etymology. 1116 English 9B* 9 Grade 9 Continuation of English 9A In English 10, students will develop a balance of four areas--listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students continue their development of listening, note taking, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills. They will read significant selections of world literature relating to controversial issues and social commentary. Student will learn to identify and analyze literary terms and techniques, enlarge their vocabulary, and think critically about significant issues facing humanity. Students will continue to develop their writing skills with informal in-class essays and formal academic writing. They will learn a variety of prewriting approaches, editing skills, and how to document sources. 1119 English 10A* 10 Grade 10 Students will also continue to develop their speaking abilities through class discussions, informal presentations and formal speeches. 1121 English 10B* 10 Grade 10 Continuation of English 10A English 11 continues to develop the four areas of focus from English 10--listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Turner is the first Gatorade Wyoming Boys Track & Field Player of the Year to be chosen from Lyman High School. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Turner as Wyoming’s best high school boys track & field athlete. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Track & Field Player of the Year award to be announced in July, Turner joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Lolo Jones (1997-98, Roosevelt High School, Iowa), Allyson Felix (2002-03, Los Angeles Baptist High School, Calif.), Robert Griffin III (2006-07, Copperas Cove High School, Texas), Grant Fisher (2013-14 & 2014-15, Grand Blanc High School, Mich.) and Candace Hill (2014-15, Rockdale County High School, Ga.). The 6-foot-1, 230-pound senior swept the shot put and discus events at the Class 3A state meet this past season, leading the Eagles to a fourth-place finish as a team. A two-time state champion in the discus, Turner’s personal-best throw of 182 feet, 5 inches this spring ranked No. 42 nationally among 2021 prep competitors in the event in 2021 at the time of his selection.

    JUNE 2019 Principal’s Message Administration Greyhound Families, Principal The 2018-2019 School Year – Complete! The Class of 2019 Graduation – Memorable! The 2019-2020 School Year – Mr. Michael Rice Ready or not, here we come!! What a year it has been! Each and every day, I drive into the front entrance of the school, thinking about our school, knowing that what lies ahead will bring about nothing but pride and joy! This is especially the case here at the end of the year where our faculty, staff, and community highlight the incredible accomplishments of our Office Hours students through various scholarship banquets, awards nights, and end-of-year celebrations. Our students have 7:00 am - 3:00 pm worked hard and I am so proud of each one of them for the efforts they have put forth, and the achievements Monday - Friday they have earned. In late May, we celebrated the Graduation of the Class of 2019! It was a beautiful ceremony that featured 531 students who took their next, right step. Our celebration included recognition of the accomplishments of this great class, including the fact that nearly two-thirds of the students finished with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Another 80 students Lyman High School earned a 4.0 or higher, and the average GPA of our top ten Seniors soared at an unbelievable 4.64! Students from the Class of 2019 have been accepted into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, is committed Yale, Georgia Tech, The University of Florida, University of Central Florida, Florida State, Florida A & M, Bethune Cookman, Rollins, Seminole State and many others! During their time in high school, their club and organization to providing footprint increased from 67 groups to an astonishing 96 groups, due to many individuals taking the time to share their passion with others.
