Lea Forest Primary Academy is a larger than average two form entry community academy that was originally built as two separate buildings over an extensive site in 1938. The academy has approximately 428 children on role from 3 to 11 years old. There are 12 classes across our Key Stage 1 and 2 phases and a dedicated Foundation stage with separate Nursery and Reception departments. We are committed to providing our students with a good education, which prepares them for adult life and equips them with suitable decision making skills. In an ever more competitive world we feel that it is vital that our children are trained to have high expectation of themselves, their work and those around them. Job Description Post Assistant Headteacher: Pupil Development Behaviour and Welfare Line The Headteacher Manager Responsible Headteacher and the Management Board to Core To work in partnership with the Headteacher and Deputy purpose Headteacher promoting high quality, optimum standards and high achievement in all areas Monitor and provide provision for children on IBP’s and ensure essential paperwork is maintained. To produce Provision Plans, Risk Assessments and Positive Handling Plans for individual children To develop exemplary practice for Teaching assistants To facilitate and encourage learning experiences which provide learners with the opportunity to achieve their potential and to contribute to raising standards of their attainment. To actively involve the community in the life and development of the school. To be strategic lead for behaviour processes within school To undertake the professional duties of the Headteacher in the event of his/ her absence and the absence of the DHT from the school following the agreed policies and aims of the school. 50% Class Teacher responsibility To carry out the professional duties of a teacher. Key tasks To be responsible for leading Teaching Assistants To develop and deliver a programme of CPD for Teaching Assistants To monitor and support delivery of targeted intervention in school To demonstrate a commitment to Equal Opportunities in all Leadership aspects of school life. To be whole school behaviour lead, leading on Restorative Justice and developing use of CPOMs to monitor and record behaviour incidents To lead on Educational Visits as the trained EVC To liaise with ITT institutions and manage student placements across the Academy To attend and lead staff, curriculum and age-phase meetings in accordance with their role and responsibility. To promote good staff morale, by providing positive leadership, with a view to achieving a healthy work-life balance and to support staff at all stages in their careers. To support with effective liaison and communication between the Headteacher and staff. Management To be a good professional role model to colleagues both in terms of teaching and in dealing with pupils, parents, Governors, visitors and colleagues providing support, respect and motivation. To meet regularly with the Headteacher to plan and review developments in school during term time and occasionally during holiday periods. To assist and contribute to the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the School Improvement Plan. To be a Performance Appraisal team leader in consultation with the Headteacher. To keep up to date with relevant educational issues and legislation and discuss regularly at SLT meetings. To support the Leadership Team in order to drive school improvement and raise standards. To be responsible for Teacher Assistant continued professional development. To monitor practice of Teaching Assistants. To identify and monitor effective wave 1 teaching and wave 2 Learning and interventions to close gaps between different groups of learners Teaching To be an exemplar of good classroom practice to colleagues in terms of planning, delivery, differentiation, assessment, display, record keeping and classroom management. To conduct assemblies with such pupils as designated by the Head of School. To facilitate/initiate cross – curricular debates in order to ensure that a balanced and broad curriculum is offered. Community To maintain and develop the partnership with parents and carers Links by encouraging active involvement and co-operation in their child's education at individual and collective levels. To organise meetings to develop parental partnerships with the school. To attend all community events General To be aware of and comply with policies relating to Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and Child Protection, Data Protection and Confidentiality. Governors To present reports to Management Board as required The Assistant Headteacher shall undertake any additional duties at the reasonable request of the Head of School CONDITIONS OF SERVICE Governed by the National Agreement on Teachers’ Pay and Conditions, supplemented by local conditions as agreed by the governors. The post is otherwise subject to the Conditions of Service for Academy Teachers in England and Wales (the ‘Burgundy Book’) and to locally agreed /Academy Trust conditions of employment to the extent that they are incorporated in the postholder’s individual contract of employment.
