A creative and dynamic academy, we deliver a broad, balanced, personalised and rigorous education that prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of living and working in the 21st century. New Rickstones Academy has approximately 650 students on roll and has held specialisms in Arts and Maths. In 2013, the academy recorded its best ever results. In February 2012, the academy moved into its new state of the art £25 million building, which provides an outstanding environment for teaching and learning. With the move into the new buildings, the academy is confident that the upward trend in achievement will continue. The academy is located in Witham, a market town in North Essex, equidistant between the county town of Chelmsford and the oldest town in England, Colchester. A main line train service runs to London Liverpool Street (35 minutes) and the coastal areas of Essex are within close proximity. Job Description Job Title: 1-1 Tutor Responsible to: Head of Subject, Linked Member of SLT Job Purpose To provide tuition to students, either one to one or in small groups, in order to support raising attainment of students. Safeguarding Our academies are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment Duties Intervention ● To deliver agreed intervention sessions, either one to one or in small groups ● To prepare, teach and evaluate sessions ● To use a range of teaching and learning strategies and resources so that individual students have access to the curriculum ● To follow the Behaviour, Discipline and Student Welfare Policy and communicate any pastoral issues to the form tutor in the first instance ● To ensure students use equipment safely ● To maintain a safe and stimulating working environment ● To liaise with the SENCO and the form tutor over any student with special educational needs and to modify tutoring according ● To assess student’ work and maintain a record of students attainments. To use assessments to diagnose individual strengths and weaknesses and to plan subsequent teaching accordingly ● To establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations and outcomes. ● To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students in sessions. ● To provide feedback to students and teachers in relation to their progress ● To report any concerns to the Head of Subject.
