Head of Department Department: Various Teachers will meet the professional standards for teachers in relation to both their teaching and their personal and professional conduct Particular Duties: A teacher is responsible for: Their own Professional Development ● keeping up to date with research and developments in pedagogy and in any subjects taught, raising, when appropriate, issues with VP Curriculum ● evaluating their own teaching critically and use this to improve their effectiveness ● building up a thorough understanding of their professional responsibilities in relation to school policies and practices ● setting a good example to the pupils they teach in their presentation and their personal conduct ● participating in Performance Management arrangements Teaching and Managing Pupil Learning ● identifying clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences appropriate to the subject matter and the pupils being taught ● setting appropriate and demanding expectations for pupils’ learning and motivation ● setting clear targets for pupils' learning, building on prior attainment and considering each pupil as an individual ● ensuring effective teaching of whole classes, groups and individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge are maintained, and best use is made of teaching time ● using teaching methods which keep pupils engaged, including stimulating pupils’ intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response, clear presentation and good use of resources ● setting high expectations for pupils' behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships ● Adapt teaching methodology to ensure that SEND and PP students make at least good progress ● ensuring that pupils are thoroughly prepared for their examinations and that any examination coursework is completed and marked according to examination board and departmental criteria ● ensure that examination board rule and regulations are fully complied with ● liaising effectively with support staff working within Department ● providing extra curricular activities to extend and challenge pupils for at least two after school sessions per week each of forty-five minutes Tutorial Responsibilities establish relationships with students for all-round development of strategies to meet departmental target ● overseeing the pastoral needs of all pupils taught and passing on any concerns to the appropriate member of staff ● mentoring and negotiating individual targets for tutees Resources within the Department ● selecting and making good use of learning resources to enable teaching objectives to be met ● ensuring that stock and equipment is well cared for and economically used ● ensuring that departmental rooms present a stimulating and tidy environment ● implementing the Academy Health and Safety Policy Communication with Parents ● attending any appropriate meetings with parents ● providing informative reports to parents ● raising, in consultation with the Head of Year, particular concerns regarding tutees with parents Internal Communication ● representing the views and interests of the Department to the Head of Department and LG ● providing information required by HODs., HOY, SENCO or LG ● actively participating in     Ryde Academy Admissions Arrangements for School Year 2019-20 Academies Enterprise Trust is the Admissions Authority for the Academy. These arrangements are established in accordance with Annex 1 of the Academy’s Supplemental Funding Agreement. Admission Number Ryde Academy has an agreed Published Admission Number (PAN) of 270 for entry into Year 7. The Academy will accordingly admit at least 270 pupils in the relevant age group each year if sufficient applications are received. All applications will be admitted if 270 or fewer apply. Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan Any child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (“EHC”) is required to be admitted. This gives such children overall priority for admission to the named academy. This is not an over- subscription criterion. Looked After Children Any child that is Looked After or previously Looked After is required to be admitted to the Academy. This gives such children overall priority for admission to the named school.     CANDIDATE INFORMATION BROCHURE AYLWARD ACADEMY To inspire young people to make their best better November 2016 Dear Candidate, Thank you for your interest in the Curriculum and Assessment Manager role at Aylward Academy. We are passionate about ensuring that, individually, we are continually improving and challenging ourselves and as an academy, striving towards our vision ‘To make our best better’ and become a great school. Aylward is a community academy based in a deprived area of North London. Since its foundation in 2010 it has dedicated itself to the education of young people from the local area, driving the Value Added score up to 1029. There is now a waiting list for year 7 entrants and the sixth form has grown from 30 to just under 300. The academy opened in 2010 with an Ofsted notice to improve and in an extremely short time were graded good in a 2012 inspection. The most recent inspection conducted in the summer of 2016 confirmed the school continues to be good whilst also identifying outstanding features. In 2012 the Ofsted report confirmed that, “Students are well motivated in their learning and their behaviour is good”. It also stated that, “Teachers plan well- structured lessons in line with students’ abilities and this adds to their enjoyment of learning”. We place learning at the core of everything we do at Aylward Academy. We have a committed and highly skilled staff and Governing Body who are dedicated to ensuring that all students achieve the best possible outcomes in their academic qualifications as well as their personal development.
