Y our investment fund options The following selection of funds are available within the DC Pension Plan and Group RRSP. You can choose a combination of these funds.

*In December 2009, Barclays Global Investors Canada Limited (Barclays) was purchased by BlackRock Asset Management Canada Limited (BlackRock). As a result, the names of all funds managed by Barclays (i.e. the Manulife BGI LifePath Index suite of funds) were changed to reflect this transaction effective March 1, 2010.

The above fund line-up offers a passive (or indexed) fund and an active (or managed) fund in each equity-based class, where a fund of each style existed that met the strict selection criteria. There are some asset classes where the difference in return by each manager is extremely narrow due to the nature of the investments, such as money market and bonds, so there is no rationale to offer more than one fund.
If you do not choose any investment options when first joining the plan(s), your contributions will be directed to one of the BlackRock LifePath Index funds (fund codes 2321 to 2330) as the default. The fund will be selected according to your estimated retirement date (at age 65). If your date of birth is not on record, contributions will be directed to the MLI Multi-Managed Balanced Fund (fund code 5195).
FortisAlberta pays the administration costs of the plans, and plan members pay the investment management fees (IMFs) for their funds.

Please note: while the information provided by the individual fund managers may be useful in understanding where your money is invested, unit values and rates of returns reported by fund managers will differ from the unit values and rates of returns of Manulife's segregated funds. These values differ due to the timing and size of cash flow factors as well as the inherent differences between pooled and segregated funds.
In addition, each fund manager's website describes funds available directly from them, however, it does not describe funds the manager created specifically for Manulife's group plans. Therefore, while the fund objectives described may be similar, they are not the same.
