Ik moet hier niet opnieuw het overzicht geven van deze vruchtbare wetenschappelijke samenwerking tussen de onderzoekers van de Belgi- sche gemeenschappen, noch van de internationale contacten die in het verleden gelegd werden. Ik deed dat uitvoerig in het gelegenheidsnum- mer dat naar aanleiding van het twintigjarig bestaan van het “Centrum Brussel” totstandkwam.1 De sociaal-economische evoluties van de laatste decennia, die Brussel deden uitgroeien tot een meertalige, multiculturele, Europees en internationaal georiënteerde stad, maken de case buitenge- woon
