Accountant Job Description

Job Title: Accountant Reports to: Coordinator of Operations/Director of Finance Dept./School: Business/Central Administration

Primary Purpose:

Perform general work relating to the preparation, administration, and control of the district financial resources.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in accounting

Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of computerized accounting systems Knowledge of competitive bidding statutes and purchasing procedures Knowledge of auditing and accounting principles Effective communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency skills in keyboarding and file maintenance Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner Ability to develop spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing

Experience: Two years accounting experience at a high level of responsibility

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Accounting

1. Prepare journal entries.

2. Enter all tax collection and TEA deposits.

3. Set up and maintain controls, logs, and files.

4. Adjust property tax receivable balances.

5. Review district’s depreciable list including schedule.

6. Maintain campus and student activity accounting and communicate with campuses.

7. Prepare reconciliation of property tax report to financial system.

8. Serve as back up to tax office.

Records and Reports

9. Record, store, and analyze information using accounting software.

Accountant Job Description

10. Prepare sales tax report to Texas Comptroller.

11. Maintain accurate and current computerized records of the districts fixed assets.

12. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including auditable records and financial statements.

13. Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, printer, fax machine, copier, and calculator.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district and statewide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.
