Accountant Exempt, Full-Time Administrative Department

Job Summary: Under general supervision of the Finance Director, responsible for and support services. The employee must routinely use independent judgment when performing tasks.

The employee will operate a computer, fax machines, copier and other modern office equipment. The employee generally works indoors in an office.

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Responsible for accounting and financial records of all funds, including reconciling bank statements and invoices, reconciling General (G/L) accounts and sub , bond payments, verifying , and payroll; balances all receipts and tax collections monthly; responsible for journal entries to G/L; records fixed ; assists with annual ; assist with annual preparation; assist with annual and monthly financial report; assists users in resolving problems on various accounting systems.

Additional Work Performed: Prepares social security and tax withholding reports; prepares quarterly unemployment reports; maintains general records of according to established accounting classifications, including various ledgers, registers, and journals; posts entries to books and computer from supporting records, makes adjustments, and prepares financial statements.

Required Knowledge & Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Knowledge / Education: Knowledge of basic principles and methods of /accounting; English and arithmetic; modern office practices, procedures, and equipment; application of basic bookkeeping/accounting principles applied to routine transactions; overall City operations.

Ability to: Ability to make arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately; exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees; applications of accounting principles to municipal finance; use keyboards accurately on calculators and computers.

This position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to the City’s drug and alcohol random testing policy.

Training & Experience: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduating from a four-year college or university with a major in accounting or business, or closely related field preferred; or a high school diploma or GED; at least one year responsible experience in accounting or bookkeeping or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to operate a variety of automated office machines which includes a computer, printer, facsimile machine, copy machine, calculator, telephone, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and up to ten pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary work.

Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; and interact with City staff, other organizations and the public.
