El día 15 de diciembre de 2006, a la edad de 85 años, murió nuestro Socio de Honor Profesor Doctor László Anthony Gozmány. El Profesor Gozmány, fue un eminente microlepidopterólogo de prestigio internacional, reconoci- do por sus importantes publicaciones sobre diferentes familias de , principalmente de las superfamilias y Tineoidea, especializándose en el estudio de las zonas áridas de las faunas de Europa, África y Asia, con la descripción de numerosas nuevas especies que siguen manteniéndose en la actualidad, fue nombrado Socio de Honor de SHILAP el día 15 de diciembre de 1981. Nacido el 9 septiembre de 1921 en Budapest, terminó sus estudios universitarios en 1944 en la Hungarian Academic of Sciences, donde posteriormente alcanzaría el Doctorado en Biología en el año 1991. Con el tiempo llegaría a ser Secretario y posteriormente Presidente de la Hungarian Entomologi-

cal Society; también llegó a ser Vicepresidente de la Lepidopterits’ Society (EE.UU.) en los años 1954 y 1978. Por su importante contribución a la Ciencia, le fue concedida la Medalla de Plata en 1970 y poste- riormente la Medalla de Oro en 1984 Frivaldszky Medals de la Hungarian Entomological Society. También le fue concedida la distinción Pro Natura en 1966 y la Eöyvös Wreath por el Ministerio para la Protección de la Naturaleza de Hungría en el año 1999, entregada por el Presidente de la Hungarian Academy of Sciences y por el Primer Ministro de Hungría. Ya en el año 2000, se le concedió la Medalla Jakob Hübner Award la más alta distinción de la Association of Tropical Lepidoptera. Igualmente fue nombrado Socio de Honor de la Sociedad Hispano-Luso-Americana de Lepidopterología (SHILAP) en 1981 y de la Societas Europaea Lepidopterologica (SEL) en 1986. Desde 1950 hasta 1983, fue nombrado Jefe de Colecciones de Lepidoptera del Hungarian Natural History Museum, en Budapest y posteriormente nombrado Director del Departamento de Zoología de esta Institución desde 1975 hasta 1978. Su principal interés estuvo en el estudio de los Microlepidoptera, principalmente sobre las familias Symmocidae, Holcopogonidae, Lecithoceridae y Tineidae, donde describiría centenares de nuevas es- pecies para la Ciencia, e incluso estableció los siguientes nombres de rango familiar o subfamiliar: Symmocidae Gozmány, 1957, Perissomasticinae Gozmány, 1965, Infurcitineinae Gozmány, 1965, Hol- copogonidae Gozmány, 1967, Oxytripiinae Gozmány, 1970, Phthoropoeinae Gozmány & Vári, 1973 (actualmente sinonimia de Cephimallotini Zagulajev, 1965), Tinissinae Gozmány & Vári, 1973 (actual- mente sinonimia de Scardiinae Eyer, 1924). Realizó diversas expediciones a Túnez en 1962, a Cerdeña durante los años 1973 y 1975 y a Gre- cia en 1977, en este último país cuyos gastos corrieron a cargo del Goulandris Natural History Museum en Kifissia, al igual que visitó los principales Museos de Historia Natural de Europa. Entre sus más destacadas publicaciones destacamos los volúmenes 5 y 10 de la monumental obra Microlepidoptera Palaearctica, dedicados a las familias Lecithoceridae (1978) y Holcopogonidae (2000) , los dos volúmenes de su Vocabularium Nominum Animalium Europaeae Septem Linguis Re- dactum (1979) y su trabajo sobre los Tineidae of the Ethiopian Region (1973). Están en preparación y deseamos vean la luz muy pronto, un nuevo volumen de Microlepidoptera Palaearctica dedicado a los Symmocidae y una serie de tres volúmenes dedicados a los Lepidoptera of and , de los que el primero está prácticamente terminado. Nuestra relación epistolar con el Profesor Gozmány comenzaría a finales de la década de los se- tenta y continuó siempre de manera muy fluida, amparada por la gran sabiduría de nuestro Socio de Honor, al cual tuve la gran oportunidad e inmenso honor, de poder conocerlo personalmente en Helsin- ki durante la celebración del Congreso de la SEL, donde pude ratificarme en todos los conceptos que del mismo tenía, sobre su sabiduría y su gran amabilidad, teniendo el honor de dedicarle una nueva es- pecie Pterolonche gozmaniella Vives, 1984. Descanse en paz, nuestro apreciado amigo y distinguido Socio de Honor de SHILAP el Profesor Doctor László Anthony Gozmány.
