Directors’ Notes

It’s hard to believe that it was a whole year ago that we undertook the task of starting a theatre camp for children, yet here we are doing the second of hopefully many camps. We learned a lot last year, and using that knowledge, we decided to challenge ourselves a little more by presenting a musical. Musicals are a major part of theatre, and we have several kids who are quite musically gifted, which was apparent from the first rehearsal when they already knew the opening song. We wanted to offer the full experience this year with not only acting, but singing and dancing and even the technical aspect: one camper will be up in the booth learning and helping with the lights. These extremely talented children worked almost nonstop on learning and practicing and it has been amazing to see them excel and get excited about theatre. These kids, along with their counselors, have accepted our seemingly-crazy proposal of putting together a musical in two weeks and exceeded all of our expectations, rising to unforeseen heights. For that, we give them our thanks.
