The True Story of Little Red (grades Pre-K-8) was adapted to build analytical and literacy skills through the exploration of verse and playwriting, foster creativity and inspire imaginative thinking. Page to Stage Tour workshops and extended residencies offer students the opportunity to study, explore, and view classic literature through performance. TAM’s Education Tours and complimentary programming challenge learners of all ages to explore the ideas, emotions, and principles contained in classic texts and to discover the connection between classic theatre and our modern world. Teacher Resource Guide information and activities were developed to help students form a personal connection to the play before attending the production; standards- based activities are included to explore the plays in the classroom before and after the performance. The best way to appreciate classic literature is to explore. That means getting students up on their feet and physically, emotionally, and vocally exploring the words. The kinesthetic memory is the most powerful—using performance-based activities will help students with a range of learning styles to build a richer understanding of the language and identify with the characters and conflicts of the plays.

The poor Big Bad Wolf is caught in the middle of all this feuding. He has 12 cubs to feed and is working on the sly for both Mother Goose and the Brothers Grimm. He is constantly falling asleep at the wrong times. The war is heating up so Mother Goose has been pretty cranky lately, and her employees beg her to take a vacation. She takes off to a beautiful island resort leaving Simple Simon in charge. Simon lets the power go to his head and spends money like crazy, and the Goose employees go on strike. The only way Simon can bring them back to work and get the company out of the red is to agree to appear on a fairy tale TV special with the Brothers Grimm employees.

  • Alpha: Labor Is the New Capital
Nov. 19 - Dear Ostrom Workshop readers: I’m so grateful for the opportunity to present at the Workshop. This paper is still in its early stages. I’m still working through the argu- ments, and, having presented the paper twice (first, two weeks ago, and again just today) it’s clear to me that it will be two papers. Also it’s clear that I still have a lot of work ahead of me. So thanks in ad- vance for your willingness to read a very rough draft. But I much pre- fer presenting work at a stage when I can actually still make funda- mental changes to the paper. The first paper (the first half of this draft) will argue that “alpha” is a useful third category of income in addition to labor and capital, that “alpha” best accounts for the rise of U.S. income inequality, and that “alpha” is often taxed at low capital gains rates. The second paper (the second half of this draft) will set forth a nor- mative theory of capital income taxation, with a uniform rate struc- ture from whatever source derived. This is really where the tax litera- ture began 100 years ago. But the literature has moved away from uniformity over the last fifty years, towards exemption of capital in- come. The facts on the ground suggest to me that we ought to move back to basics. Finally, a note on the background of this project. This draft was pre- pared for Tax Law Review symposium on tax and entrepreneurship. It consolidates a lot of my prior work on the tax treatment of private equity and venture capital.

  • “Mute Misery”: Speaking the Unspeakable in L
Chapter Six “Mute Misery”: Speaking the unspeakable in L. M. Montgomery’s Anne Books Hilary Emmett “Anne, you have talked even on for ten minutes by the clock,” said Marilla. “Now, just for curiosity’s sake, see if you can hold your tongue for the same length of time.” ~ Anne of Green Gables (93) “I was often very hungry before I came to Green Gables—at the orphanage…and before. I’ve never cared to talk of those days.” ~ Anne of Ingleside (245) When the orphaned Anne has mistakenly, but fortuitously, been left at Bright River station, the very first thing we learn about her is that she has, in the words of the stationmaster, “a tongue of her own, that’s for certain” (11). From this moment, Anne’s interaction with every new person she meets is characterized by her ceaseless chatter and her comical employment of all sorts of “big words” to express her even bigger ideas (15). Yet while Lucy Maud Montgomery’s series of Anne novels continually draw attention to her heroine’s prodigious gifts of verbal and written expression, there are some notable scores on which Anne remains if not precisely silent, then, at the very least, tongue-tied. In this chapter, I explore that which is repressed by the irrepressible Anne. Although repressed, ideas and events deemed unspeakable by Anne and her intimates nevertheless insinuate their way into their discourse and are eventually given textual enunciation. Traumatic events in the Anne novels present particular obstacles to free expression. Much is left unsaid in Montgomery’s rendering of such circumstances as Anne’s miserable childhood before she came to Green Gables, and her responses to the deaths which frame the series: that of her beloved father-figure Matthew in the first novel, and that of her son Walter, in the series’ final installment, Rilla of Ingleside.

  • ABSTRACT RABON, DAVID REID, JR. Factors Affecting Reproduction
ABSTRACT RABON, DAVID REID, JR. Factors Affecting Reproduction in the Red Wolf ( Canis rufus ). (Under the direction of Dr. Harold F. Heatwole). The endangered red wolf ( Canis rufus ) was preserved in captivity with just 14 founders following its planned extirpation in the wild. Longitudinal reproductive events were investigated to determine whether inbreeding, parental age, and breeding experience were factors in reproductive performance and fitness. A behavioral preference study using olfactory presentations of conspecific and congeneric social odors also was conducted to determine those factors that are important in the selection of mates. Over 30 years of managed breeding, the level of inbreeding in the captive population has increased, and litter size has declined. Inbreeding levels were lower in sires and dams that reproduced than in those that did not reproduce, but there was no difference in the level of inbreeding of actual and predicted litters. Litter size was negatively affected by offspring and paternal levels of inbreeding, but the effect of inbreeding on offspring survival was restricted to a positive influence. Younger wolves were more likely to reproduce, and were more likely to produce larger litters, than were older individuals. The age of the dam, but not the sire, had a significant negative effect on pup survival. Sires and dams that had prior experience in the production of offspring were more likely to reproduce again than were individuals without prior reproductive success, but prior sexual experience alone was not a factor in the production of offspring. Parental breeding experience had a significant negative effect on pup survival, but no apparent relationships with size or sex ratio of the litter.
