EA 197/Week 4/Post-Mao Pop 2/My 1997
My 1997 (Ai Jing, 1993)
My music teacher was my father. He spent the last twenty years in a state factory. My mother was a Peking Opera singer, She always complained that she missed good times. I won many prizes for singing when I was little. My two younger sisters wanted to follow me in singing. When I was 17, I left my hometown in Shenyang. Because I felt my dream was not to be found there. I came to Beijing by myself, a city that I don't know well. I also got into the famous "East Music School' under Wang Kun I actually missed most the time I spent in the Music School But my teachers did not think that way.
With a voice inside me born for singing, My life went by pretty easy. I sang my way from Beijing to Shanghai Bund, From Shanghai all the way to the South, singing my song. I stayed in Guangzhou for days, oh the days were long, Because my man, he was living in Hong Kong
What's this thing they call Hong Kong? What's so cool about Hong Kongers? How come he can come to Shenyang, but I can't go to Hong Kong?.
Little Hou said that I should venture out to try my luck. Why should Hong Kong be so fragrant? I heard it is an important market for Old Cui.
Take me to that wonderful world. Give me the red seal.
Come on 1997! What's so cool about Lan Kwai Fong? Come on 1997! So I can make it to Hong Kong. Come on 1997! So I can stand at the Hon Hom Coliseum. Come on 1997! So I can go to the night clubs with him. wǒ de yīn yuè lǎo sh ī shì wǒ de bà bà
