Mayor of Hillingdon’s visit

The Mayor of Hillingdon (Cllr Barnes) visited our school on Tuesday to find out about our special connection to the ANZAC’s (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) and how we commemorate ANZAC Day. The Mayor of Hillingdon (Cllr Barnes) visited our school on Tuesday 18th May 2021 to find out about our special connection to the ANZACs.

“It was fun meeting the Mayor and finding out what she does,” Darcey (Year 6 Beech class).

“I told the Mayor about how Harefield Junior School has been remembering the ANZACs for 100 years,” Jack (Year 6 Beech class).

“I found out that the Mayor has her own YouTube channel,” Isabella (Year 6 Aspen class).

Rights Respecting Schools Article of the week

Article 24 – Health Care - ensures that every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy.

As a family you could support the learning of this Right by; • Discussing all the things we need to keep healthy including; food, water, exercise, sleep, mental health, keeping clean, health care and oral health care. • Create a healthy meal together for your family to enjoy. • Do some exercise as a family, this could be going on a walk, creating an obstacle course in the garden, learning a dance routine together. After school multisport club

We are continuing the after school multisport club for children in years 3&4 (Mondays) and years 5&6 (Tuesdays) after half term and have emailed parents details of how to book a place.

This term, Year 5 have been at looking at the meaning behind pictures in Art & Design. This week, Sycamore Class worked together as a team to recreate the painting 'Gassed' by John Singer Sargeant, which showed the devastating effects from gas attacks during the war.

“I learnt that you can add shine and lighting to a drawing by using a rubber and press harder for shading,” Lilly-Rayne.

“I learnt that you need to look very closely at the objects you are sketching,” Harley.

Year 3 Willow class looked at a selection of in Science. They studied the different root types.

“We found roots with lots of hairs,” Luca.

“They have lots of roots to grab more water,” Harrison.

“I looked at cress seedlings and noticed they are all different shapes and found some seed cases,” Millie.
